I've got 32 GB of ram in my desk drawer, a new keyboard and a big 27" black mirror... err.. thunderbolt display sitting here waiting on the desk :)

I'll be sitting with 16GB RAM, a Miniport to HDMI, and Toslink to mini toslink cable in hand within this week ready for this 27".....tell me about it. It's also my first ever iMac.:):D

Absolutely crazy - all that money for a model that's now not going to be shipped until 2013. It's likely to be another iPad 3 fiasco i.e. customers will take late delivery only to see an upgrade a few months later. So glad I'm not in the market for an upgrade at this time, I would be well peed off paying all that for old tech.

I know you're just looking for a reaction, yet I can't help but respond. The January shipping now listed on the Apple store refers to newly placed orders. It shouldn't affect any orders that have already been placed with earlier shipping dates.

Even if the 2012 iMac is not the latest thing (although currently it pretty much is), something newer coming out doesn't automatically render the previous version obsolete or unusable. My 2007 iMac has served me well for five years, but it's time for something a little more zippy now. Will I be disappointed if new models come out in 2013. Of course not. I know I'll probably have this new iMac for four or five years, and it will more than meet my needs. I'm not driven by the need to have the absolute latest thing in technology. I just want a computer that meets my needs, and this one will. If people want to wait for the next version, there is nothing wrong with that, but nor is there with ordering a 2012 iMac now. Nothing crazy about it.

I called Apple today to ask for the 3 day delivery option. My estimated delivery is now the 20th - 27th. Prior to that it was the 24th - 31st. I ordered the non BTO model.

I'm on the west coast of the U.S. I ordered my i7 iMac Nov 30 @ 12:12 am PST with a delivery date of Dec 24 - Dec 31. My cancel/edit order button is happily gone.

Just for grins, I clicked the "View/Edit Order Details" link on the left side of the order status page to see what upgrading shipping would cost and I get this message (even though my status shows "Processing"):

We are unable to change your order when your items are prepared for shipment or have shipped. To make changes to your default shipping address, go to Your Account.

Is your cancel button gone yet? I tried to do the same thing to see what it would say, but it just promps me sign into me apple account (I checked out as a guest, so signing into my apple account won't do anything).

Just called and got next-day shipping for free! It previously said January 4-10, now 3-9. Not a lot of difference but the person who answered my call was awesome. Used to live in my town!

Did you have standard or expedited (2-3 day) before you were upgraded to next day?

Standard. I'm going out of town the day after it's supposed to get delivered, and with the snow in these parts packages are often delayed. I didn't want my computer sitting in front of my house for a week so maybe that's why she bumped it up so much?

In fact I'm very much like you in that I have no interest in keeping up with the guy next door. I too tend to keep my tech until it becomes almost antique. I do however like to get the most current model at the start and not see it replaced within months which is what I think may well happen this time. I also think that the latest iMac launch is one of the worst managed events in a long time by Apple. Because of their almost cult status they now take their customers for granted.

Payment now processing

Just a heads up, Apple finally started processing my payment according to my bank account. Not sure if it started processing yesterday or today. However, my estimated delivery date remains at 21-28.

Guesswork on the delivery date

I ordered 3.04AM EST Nov 30th from Brooklyn, NY, paid my $30 for 2 day shipping, and got a delivery date of 21-28 Dec.

This is all supposition and guesswork and I offer it only as food for thought...

- The Cancel Items on Apple's Your Order page is to do with your Credit Card company's practices.
- Everyone will be at stage 2 "Processing Items" until the shipment from China clears customs in Long Beach, CA.
- Only when the units are in the hands of UPS will we get to stage 3 "Preparing for Shipment".
- 21-28 Dec for a standard 5 day delivery implies the shipment arriving in CA. around Friday 14th. Then say, 2 days to clear customs, and get to UPS on the 16th.
- Therefore: if all goes well, and Apple undershoots the deadline they've promised, first deliveries of the 27" iMacs will come between Tuesday 18th and Friday 21st. :)

Kind of makes sense really. The 2-3 weeks dispatch frame was there on the 30th November. 2 weeks from then is 14th December and 3 weeks the 21st December.

BTO 27" iMac delivered Dec 20-27

Originally was standard shipping delivered on Dec 24-31, but I just called customer service and they upgraded my order to next day shipping for free. HO. HO. HO. :D

Yes I agree,
I phoned yesterday to clarify the mismatch with dates and she basically said what you've written here, they'll start shipping around 2-3 weeks and arrive sometime around the 20th at best, depending obviously where u are.

I tried that too, but unfortunately we can't get expedited shipping in Australia.
