Yes, having ordered early it is getting old looking at the same Processing Items status.

The 2 day shipping is different than what they listed as 2-3 day?

From Australia, Sydney, ordered it 10min after it went live.
And today my status changed to PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT!!!!

Delivers 03/01/2013 - 07/01/2013 via Standard Shipping

Good to see some movement on the BTO for Australia

Same here. I ordered mine from Australia within 10 minutes with almost identical specs. Although my original delivery date was 21-27 Dec. It is now preparing for shipping.

Ordered mine at 11:56pm on the 29th. Yup, the 29th. Still stuck in processing land. My AmEx saw the authorization drop off (expected) and it was charged Sunday night. I just called Apple to see what was going on and the guy didn't have a clue how they were being processed. He did say he had taken a lot of calls about it though.
On the plus side, I did get my shipping changed to 2 business day for free since I called.

Ordered mine the same time as you. Got upgraded to next-day shipping, which is really bloody useless when it hasn't shipped yet. :D

I really would LOVE to know how they decide what order these are built. My guess is it's batches of the same BTO that get processed first.

e.g. has anyone with my spec had theirs shipped yet?

3.4Ghz i7
2GB 680MX
8GB RAM
1TB 7200rpm

I feel like mine us unusual since I went for the standard drive, which might be holding it up.

And the alternative for the shipping order is they're doing it alphabetically!

Or.... they pick random orders!

Or.... it's a social experiment to see us squabble on Macrumors!

I have the exact same specs on my machine with a 20th to 24th of DEC delivery and mine is still processing....arrrghhh.

That's a good thought. There is no rhyme or reason to Apple's method of processing iMac orders. They aren't doing it by those who ordered first. They aren't doing it by geographical location in the US since people from all over the US are receiving shipping notifications. They also aren't doing it by specific delivery windows, since some people who have later delivery windows are having their items shipped before those who have earlier delivery windows.

Checked my status today and my order is still processing. However, Apple placed a hold on my card again today that expires on Friday. Hopefully this means that it's about to ship.

**Crossing fingers that the charge to my card last night means something**

I know most of the people who had theirs shipped on Monday saw charges reappear on their cards Sunday (and maybe Saturday).

When did it change? How long ago?

Not sure mate, I check last yesterday afternoon and it was still processing and then I check this morning and it had changed. Must of happened sometime during the night.

So, midnight for you would have been how many hours ago, about?

Seriously, I feel like I'm 8 years old waiting to unbox that first NES for Christmas but I have to wait, and wait, and wait

I am ashamed by the temper tantrum I'm having in my mind right now. Even though I know it's silly, I can't help but be disappointed that mine is still in the processing stage despite the time when I placed my order. This is my birthday present from last February, and I'm just so excited to get it. I'm afraid it's going to arrive right before I go out of town for a few days, and I won't get to have any fun with it before I leave.

Anyone on hunger strike yet until their iMac ships..?

I'm on a gorged belly strike. Perhaps not as effective, but much more satisfying. ;)

My thoughts exactly, this is going to be my first ever Mac and I've actually been waiting about 2 years to get one imagine how I feel. The first year I just couldn't really afford it and had just purchased a Dell. The last year or so I've been waiting for this refresh. I ordered about maybe 12:10 at the latest yet I'm still stuck in processing.

My guess is the order in which the iMacs are shipped depends upon what's coming off the assembly line coupled with where they are going. Apple most likely saves on shipping costs by sending full pallets to UPS/Fedex depots. Orders remain in the processing stage until they have enough going to the same depot to fill a pallet, at which time they are "preparing to ship."

When you're shipping that may units you can't blame them for trying to do it in the most efficient way possible. There are big shipping dollars involved.

I ordered the exact same BTO at 12:05 11/30... mine is still Processing.

While you make some good points, logically it doesn't make sense for them to process orders placed later than those who placed orders earlier, regardless of where they're going. Eventually, they're going to have to process orders placed earlier, regardless of their geographic destination. Also, I was informed by several Apple reps that all US-bound iMacs are all shipped from China to Alaska (or another US destination) in bulk, where they're then unbundled and individually resorted for specific local delivery based upon their geographical US location.

While the pallet destined for geographical destinations makes sense, it also might be that destinations with high population density have so many orders that it takes longer for an individual from that location to get to the front of that order line. Meanwhile, customers in less populated destinations with fewer orders, pass through the staging line quicker, get palletized, and shipped sooner.
