The worst possible scenario

So of course, when my order finally does show as shipped, I'm probably going to die of shock and then I'll never get to enjoy my new Mac.

Whoo-hoo, just changed to "preparing for shipment"!

My status just changed, in the last half hour, to "preparing for shipment"

Order placed at about 6:30am eastern time on 11/30, maxed out except for RAM (which arrived from Amazon today). Last name, D, if we're pursuing that theory :)

Time to start cleaning up the desk!

Argh, this is making me nuts.

Confirmed order 11/30 at 8:08AM CST.
3.4Ghz i7
16 GB
1TB Fusion Drive
2GB GT 680MX
Tragic Macpad
Standard (Free) Shipping Option

The charged showed up today, but I'm still Processing Items.

My prediction: I'll wake up to a shipping confirmation and a Monday delivery date.

Wanted to share an interesting experience with my fellow obsessive-compulsives.

First of all, 12:11am PST 11/30 order: i7/3TBFusion/680/8GB/Trackpad...still Processing.

I wanted to share my calls with apple support:

Call 1 - Monday 12/10 morning: After seeing movement on this thread I simply called to make sure everything was OK. Assured everything was and that my AmEx was authorized that AM. Looking good!

Call 2 - Monday 12/10 mid-day: After reading about the different shipping options on this thread (mine still said Standard Shipping) I called and asked if I could expedite the shipping. I was given the "all backordered items are being expedited" story that many have quoted here. They told me no need to worry...all will go out same shipping speed.

Call 3 - Monday 12/10 evening: After thinking about it more I thought maybe Apple was using "expedited" to their advantage and I called back and specifically requested to upgrade to 2-3 day shipping...not expedited. I offered to pay the $30. This time I'm told by the agent that once an order is placed they couldn't change the shipping. So it was impossible to do so. Hmmm...strange. It was late...I let it be.

Call 4 - Tuesday 12/11 AM: I woke up this morning disappointed to see that I'm still processing despite my 12:11am order time. Reading this forum I really didn't like seeing all the screenshots with "via 2-3 Business Days" while my order still said "via Standard Shipping." I called back today, I told the agent that I'm traveling for a week and a half as of 12/26 (which is true) and I would be more than happy to pay the $30 to try and get it here quicker before 12/26. I'm once again told that all backordered items are being expedited so there is no upgrade. Here's where it gets fun...I then asked him why I'm seeing some people online with FedEx tracking numbers (presumably the 2-3 day people) and others with UPS (presumably the "expedited"). I asked him if both FedEx and UPS are the same class of service. Side note...I want to pause a moment to say I was completely upbeat and cordial this whole time. Back to the story...There is a slight pause and then I get the "can I put you on hold for 2 minutes?"

I'm actually not going to post specifically what happened next as the agent literally asked me to not share it online but let me just say this...my order no longer says "Standard Shipping" and now says "2-3 Business Days." Calling out FedEx vs UPS seemed to do the trick.

I was frustrated on my first 3 calls regarding this seemingly wording-based shell game known as "Expedited" shipping so I wanted to share that with all as this forum encouraged me to call in the first place. Good luck to everyone...now to go refresh and hope that "Processing" changed to "Shipped." Darn...still Processing...

Hold fast, boys. I'm a part of the First Ten Minutes Club and my order just switched to PREPARING TO SHIP.

Yours will be there soon!

So, does the charge appear on the credit card BEFORE or AFTER status changes to preparing to ship?

You're only a real order-status addict if you have your Apple.com order page, this MacRumors delivery thread, and the credit-card statement page open - on a constant refresh cycle.

LOL. I figure if the status won't change until the CC is charged, I only need to look at one place.

seriously, it was a serious question!

Bahaha! Busted!

I use a lovely little iPhone app, and desktop widget by Junecloud:

It receives updates when your order status changes, and you can get alerts pushed to the iPhone (doesn't stop me manually refreshing it constantly).

Free OSX Widget http://junecloud.com/software/mac/delivery-status.html
Paid iOS app: http://junecloud.com/software/iphone/delivery-status-touch.html

I love these apps, and have had them since they were released some years back. Can't live without 'em :)

Wrong! Some orders don't even get charged till after they ship. I'm telling you, - this is all one big social experiment for Apple.
