Yes, I think I'm right. But there is a possibility that some company makes external scaler in the future. I'm waiting for it. I purchased AT-DP400. So if the scaler comes out, I will connect it to DP400. It should be great.

hmmm.. 1080p to 1440p scaler? i don't think so.. not an external one

The iMac just doubles the width and height each pixel. That's it. No blurring or antialiasing, just displaying the input image with every 1 pixel mapping exactly to 4 pixels on screen. That is probably WHY it needs 720p and not 1080p. Because all it has to do is double the pixels. No scaler needed.

yeah i think you are right.. that's pretty much the reason whey they only accept 720p.. since 1080p to 1440p would need more processing.. but 720p would only needs to double the width and height..

Hello Miguel,

We will be working on the scaler which can scaler 1080p to 2560x1440 which is a native resolution of the iMac 27”, but it will take some time.

If you want, you can use AT-DP200HD in a meantime, it will give you 720p output, which also looks pretty good

Thank you

Thanks for that update! Have you requested to be updated by atlona when they do have anything to announce about that scaler? If so, it'd be awesome if you'd pass along any new info on these forums, this have been a helpful thread for a lot of us

I am planing to buy my first Mac the iMac 27" but can I connect my PC to it with the Dr. Bott thingy (PC video card ATi 4890 I use DVI but can convert to HDMI with adapter). And does it have lag?

You can connect your PC, as long as your PC has either a DVI, dual link DVI, MiniDP or HDMI output. (most cards should at least have a DVI output that would work fine for you)

As far as input lag, there's zero lag using Dr. bott with an xbox 360, so I don't see why it would function any differently with a PC, you should have no problem

DO NOT BUY DR BOTT. It will limit your PC to 1280x720. Buy the AT-DP400 instead to pass the full 2560x1440 resolution to the iMac. However, for the price of the AT-DP400, you could just buy a video card with native DP out...

not quite true

the AT-DP400 may be able to pass higher resolutions but the ps3 does not.. so you still need an hdmi scaler to upscale 1080p to 1440p.. and the AT-DP400 does not have an hdmi scaler.. we will need to wait for a future solution

Yeah, I know. But ExcelMitsuo wants to hook up a PC to the iMac. A PC can natively output 2560x1440. However that required Dual Link DVI, which only the AT-DP400 supports.

Hey

Any know if there is any shops, that send the Dr-bot to Denmark? In a eu contry.

I have also read about another company that made a 1080p unit, but i cant remember the name of it. And it shuld be released soon.

Thanks.

Great! We will be able to watch blu-ray on full resolution with iMac!

Except for the fact that, assuming this scaler doesn't do HDMI to DP conversion as well, you will probably end up forking over between 350 to 400 dollars for the whole kit. The price depends on a few things:

If the scaler scales a DisplayPort signal, then you will be fine using the AT-DP200 or Dr Bott. That is about 150 dollars plus the 200 or so for the scaler.

However, if this scaler is for HDMI/DVI, you will need to buy the more expensive AT-DP400. That is about 200 dollars plus the 200 or so for the scaler.

However, despite the price, the scaler could bring some improvements. The first is obviously 1080p support, but it will also scale 720p games up much more nicely than the iMac does. That means it can antialias the picture, getting rid of the blockiness. Is it worth an extra 200? That is your own choice.

I'm using 1080p projector and iMac in my room. Now I'm connecting like this.

Xbox360-(1080p,HDMI)-AV receiver-(1080p,HDMI)-Projector

And what I want to do is

Xbox360,BD Player-(1080p,HDMI)-AV receiver-(1080p,HDMI)-Projector
.................................................|(1080p,HDMI)
..............................................Scaler
.................................................|(1080p to 1440P,HDMI)
...........................................AT-DP400
.................................................|(1440p,HDMI to DP)
...............................................iMac

To run my projector on 1080p, I have to set 360 and BD Player's resolution 1080p. Changing their resolution setting when I use iMac as a display, is troublesome. This is the reason why I need a scaler. I didn't notice that the scaler may scale a DP signal till you say. If so, I replace the scaler and AT-DP400's position. It should work too. $400 is not cheap but we can't get 1440p ISP display on that price. And there's no space to place another display in my room. So I will spend $400 for this.

Hello.

Just found out that i can buy the Dr. Bott from:
http://www.puremac.de/_py_Displays-...Link-fuer-68-6cm-27-iMac-EU-230V/a-24611.html

Now i just need to make up my mind, if i shuld get one now, or wait for a 1080p version :S

if you want a converter that will output in 1080p, they are already available. that is not the issue here. there are hdmi and or dvi 1080p converters to minidp... the iMac minidp input will NOT accept a 1080p signal. not compatible. it'll do 720p or 1440p.

any 16:9 ratio seems like it ought to work, no problem (especially considering the iMac's have gpus). but that's no the case. maybe the display port input doesn't connect directly to the gpu?

Hello.

Thanks, guess i will buy the Dr. Bott then, 720p is fine for me.

The problem is though, where i shuld buy it from. I contacted Dr. Bott and got a answer after some minutes, and she said i could buy it from www.duregexpress.com/ as they sent them to denmark for like 15 euro.

So lets see :)

Has someone already mentioned that you won't notice a difference on the imac between 720p and 1080p? The screen is too small for the human eye to notice a difference between the two.

typically you won't notice a difference until you go above 42" the guy who calibrates my pioneer eliab from avical can see stuff i can't but on a 27" for sure you won't be able to tell the difference.

no one with a clue spends money on a scaler on a 27" anything period!

TBH, the iMac scales images extremely poorly. As I have already mentioned, the pixels are merely doubled without ANY antialiasing. So a scaler would not be a bad proposition, if only for the fact that it would make a even a 720p image look a LOT better.

Dr bott or kanex plus a scaler equals a 32 pioneer plasma in price and that will smoke iMac for gaming period!

Also black levels on the iMac plain suck I have an asus bluray and tried a few in windows and it just doesn't look that good and really never will! I love my iMac but I'll use my 60" pioneer kuro for movies!
