Definitely not new... This has been around since 2016 they recently (this year) changed their name from CMRA to Wristcam. I think it started as a Kickstarter or preorder thing back then. I went for it, and have been strung along ever since. Poor communication that is few and far between with promises of shipping soon at least once a year. They've even changed course because of "new watch" releases which have slowed everything down. If this ever ships I'll be very surprised, but glad my money wasn't totally wasted. Luckily my price was less than half of this "new" product price.
As I posted I am in the same boat. I fell for this in 2016. Seemed kind of cool then. Not so much now. They’ve had my money, and so far I have no product!

Not the most attractive of course, but what other choice do they have? Given the constraints, that design isn't that bad for people who really want a camera (right now). Really cool that they engineered and designed that. And it DOES solve a problem. All the hardware and code involved in an indie product like that. As a dev, I think that's pretty cool.

Pretty damn thick. Couldn't they have gone with a smaller sensor and lens? I mean, we don't need super high quality when we are on the go without a phone, but just for the essentials. Video chat would be nice though but I assume your arm would get tired from holding it up like that

Lots of nobodies who haven’t created anything except bad jokes in their comments, with lots to say. If you can do better, let’s see your product. It’s a solid first step. And it’s pretty fun. Get over yourselves.

It's a little bit bulky, but seriously - who doesn't want a camera available at all times? I'm interested. :)
I’m with you on this one, it looks completely gross. Insanely oversized and horrendous. But I prefer that to a neat and trim 720p that I would never use. I’m interested and it’s only going to get better and smaller, so I think we’re off to a good start.

Of course people have lots to say, it’s called criticism for a reason. This is a discussion thread, what would you expect people to say? That everybody agrees that this is an amazing product? There’s been plenty of feedback where others have offered and said this doesn’t look ‘practical, it destroys the look of the Apple Watch with the added bulk, the price is ridiculous, ect, how are those comments/examples making ‘bad jokes’ with over 2/3 of the comments in this thread have mentioned those specifics.

Even With some other jokes, it’s true just being how ridiculous it looks, regardless of the functionality.

If you can do better, let’s see your product.

Why would you say “If you can do better, let’s see your product”? I’m assuming most of these members commenting aren’t design engineers, but they are the ones that make the decision if a product like this succeeds or not by purchasing it, isn’t that right?

Regardless, a product like this has no foothold in a market for $300 for a watch band that could easily become obsolete within a year, let alone the company seems to have a less than desirable reputation from some comments.

@Relentless Power,

Considering the guy you responded to has exactly one comment and came here to drive-by snipe at people for not bowing to the obvious brilliance of this device, you can be pretty sure he’s one of the devs on this thing. That that was his response pretty much tells you what the company’s attitude will be to anyone who buys this. You can’t say you haven’t been warned.

“your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.”

Wow.... I think I’ll wait for the technology to catch up this time lol.

hahah, I love most of the reactions.
For what is worth, as soon as I saw it I actually picture it more for the sports junkies... snowboarders, skydivers, skateboarders, etc
I have brought my GoPro for snowboarding... but honestly it’s annoying to carry with so many things. If it can record long stretches (I.e 20 mins at a time) MAYBE there’s something here.

but for next iteration, I concur with that.

even for sports, it's ergonomically bad. i can't play a game on my watch because my arm gets tired from being held up for over 5 minutes straight.

Very fair point, keeping the arm lifted is indeed quite heavy on the shoulders, forgot about how painful a longheld “t-pose” position can be for example.

This company (under their old name) stole A LOT of money from people. Stay far, far away.

(yes, I consider taking pre-order money up front then not shipping a product for 4 years and not giving refunds stealing)

What was the company name?

You can purchase a full fledged Android phone from Kospet, Zblaze, Lemfo, Arrow and a few others that have this type of camera system on the base of the watch. Actually two camera's .

I think this idea proposes a awesome integration with FaceTime... Since AppleWatch was released I've been wanting a camera on it. It feels natural! It's like boom, "Yes! Hows it going!" ... and of course switch over to my phone when I want to.

...

The better question is, HAVE YOU created a product?

I’m ashamed to say I ordered one of these via KickStarter in 2016. On 11/2/20 I responded to a Shipping Confirmation email. I have heard nothing back, or received the device.

I’ll gift it to my nephew should it ever arrive.
I feel the same way, I replied too. 🤦🏻‍♂️

A few points:

This is the same company that crowd funded an Apple Watch wristband camera in 2016. They were CMRA now they are WristCam.

This is bulky and pretty ugly. Why would anyone buy it? Because back during the original crowd funded campaign it was a much sleeker design that was advertised. So anyone who didn’t cancel their order will now supposedly get this.

Are they a scam? It is hard to tell. In 2016 they took my money in a crowd funded campaign and didn’t deliver anything. They’ve claimed all along that you could get a refund but when I looked into it, it looked like a lot of perseverance would be required. I gave up quickly. But it is interesting that they seem to still be pursuing the same goal despite what are obvious design setbacks.

I got a notice last month that they are going to ship. I’m very interested to see if they do. Given the modified design, it is unlikely I would use this but I’m truly interested to try it if it wasn’t a scam all along. We’ll see.

For anyone who actually wants this, if it actually ships, mine will be for sale shortly thereafter. ;)

So we need this since its so hard to pull the phone out of your pocket?
