Did I REALLY miss anything?

I have been away, kinda, from MR. I heard about the event today and I am now visiting. Wow, Did I miss anything? Those posts about "I am disappointed, I am angry, I won't buy! Piss off SJ!!, Marketing Scam" Wow!, Scary! Surely, I did not expect much.

I was not expecting GPS, Camera, Wifi, plastic back , 80Gb, etc. Sometimes we have to be realistic and look back at past events.

Ok, the only thing I was expecting was Copy and Paste in Firmware 2.1. Maybe something about Flash. But I am not angry.

And no computer updates. Criminy, when was the last time Apple did anything significant onstage about Macs? It's all freakin' music and phones now.

Sigh.

I guess it's official. We Mac users get to sit in the back of the bus behind the iPhone and iPod users. Oh well, it's easier to hit them with spit-wads from back here I guess.

Mac hardware has been out of the limelight for a while I guess. I'm sure a touchscreen iMac or a tablet would warrant it's own 'show, but who knows when?

I'm surprised you guys are all lamenting no GPS. Think for a sec. The only way the touch can get data (like map info) is over wifi. A GPS device without built-in maps or a cell connection is totally useless.

Without turn by turn software, the gps provides very little value. Why is it other smartphones have turn by turn, but the invention of the century can't have it?

I think it was a nice update on the software side, a mild update on the hardware side.

I would have bought a new one if the touch was offered in 64gb. I already own the 32gb touch, and while the new features are great and most welcome, the feature which will inspire me to upgrade is more storage.

I will wait until Apple releases a 64gb touch model to upgrade. There's nothing wrong with holding on to my money a tad bit longer. :)

Why do we get ripped off in the UK?

16GB

US Price $299

US$ TO GBR£ Conversion £170

UK Price £220

WHAT GIVES?!

Wow, so many people complaining about the features the Touch is missing. No 64 gb, no camera, no gps, blablabla. This is first and foremost a music player, how much extras can you expect to fit in this thin piece of hardware??

We want a handheld that can do it all without having to get into a phone contract. :D

So Apple sells maps individually or as a collection through the App Store. Duh.

We knew in advance it would be an iPod event, and it was an iPod event. They updated the iPods, just like they do every year. Does every event have to include a mac update?

There are still rumors that there will be Mac updates in the next few weeks. Should iPod users complain about "sitting in the back of the bus" when that happens?

Refurbished

The refurbished 1st gen iPod touches on the Canadian Apple website are around $200 dollars off their original prices. Pretty good if you don't care about the upgrades.

i plan on getting one....but has anyone tried to update their ipod touch yet to 2.1....i have the 2.0 upgrade but itunes isnt allowing me to download the new software...says my ipod cant be found. anyone else with this issue.

does anyone know how nice the speaker is?

It sucks that there is STILL no camera. It would be such an easy thing for apple to add to this device to make its funcationality go much further!

Of course !! Look what they did with the speaker. Any moron would have put speaker and camera with the first generation. They are just milking people for money. Speaker today, camera in Novemeber.

Glad my iPod Touch was free, otherwise i'd have to wait till Christmas time when the thing comes with a camera.

As for gaming on this thing, its horrible IMO. I removed all the games I downloaded.

Insane Battery!!

This battery is insane!!!! I am disappointed, very disappointed. No 64gig, no bluetooth, no GPS, but a speaker, volume toggles and insane battery. I still can't get over that battery. Ordering 32g now.

VAT. Deduct 17.5% from the UK price. Also, wait a few more weeks and then the US price will be more expensive than in UK.

If this was an "iPod event" then what was the iPhone doing there? I know the iPhone can play music, but so can my Mac. If you can justify the iPhone announcements, then a Mac-related one could have been expected reasonably too.

There are still rumors that there will be Mac updates in the next few weeks. Should iPod users complain about "sitting in the back of the bus" when that happens?

No because the Mac updates will be released quietly in the middle of the night with little to no fanfare whatsoever and, if recent history is any guide, they're largely going to suck.

Screw it. Apple should just slap a "Made for iPod" sticker on the Mac and be honest about it. No updates for the Mini in almost a year. The updates to the iMac lately have been lackluster and the displays...? And how about that Mac-free keynote at WWDC? I'm not sure what Apple's thinking, but this nonstop focus on iPods and iPhone is starting to get on my nerves.

As I've said before, if Apple can't update the Macs in a timely manner, they should introduce regular price drops so it at least doesn't feel like their computer customers are getting the short end of the deal. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.
