I never thought i'd be eager to wipe my device and get a product from iTunes, but I can not wait to do this. Apple finally listened to all the bitching and moaning and making it reality. I'm super stoked!!!!!

Satisfactory

Having lived with Windows mobile and Symbian before Apple, and the last one year with Apple, i vote for satisfactory.

Many functionality i had in my wish list for last couple of months are finally going to be reality.

Thumbs up :apple:

Question about the Peer to peer stuff.

Does this mean that i can receive stuff (like videos) from non iphone owning friends through the bluetooth connection or not?

I was very excited until I read in another thread that MMS will not be available on the iPhone 2G. A $300 or $400 electronic device should not be obsolete after only 2 years and there's no reason that a device that should have MMS doesn't when...again...free devices with lesser capability have had it for years.

I have a feeling that the lack of MMS for the 2G is is simply their way of pushing those who dropped the money on it to drop money on the 3G or whatever else may show up this summer.

Still not going to piss that money away just so I can give more to Apple/ATT.

so, my vote was "satisfactory" since they did add it to the 3G and the other features that are included (landscape mail, notes, etc)

Overdue....the 3rd party push, MMS, Cut/Paste, turn by turn..all that stuff is just overdue. This preview was aimed at developers and that's pretty evident.

I'm not going to sit and just bash it though. Surprisingly with all said and done I came away pretty happy with what I saw. I'm excited to start using the new features, hopefully it won't be as buggy as 2.0 was though.

Spotlight is going to come in handy as well, nice surprise.

Overall I am happy with today's news. I am excited to get my iPhone updated so I can try out the new features. Being able to update the softeware and increase the capability of the iPhone is one reason why I bought the 1st gen iPhone.

(that iPhone has ceased working and I am on a 3G iPhone now.)

i'm satisfied with the new OS update.
MMS, turn-by-turn, copy paste, and push notification were major updates I wanted to see....
I can't wait til june for the update.
"Peer-to-peer connectivity over Bluetooth for gaming" should be very interesting... i bet anything that has to do with bluetooth will consume battery ALOT.....

I was reading the live blog from giz, and I recall seeing a mention of this, but they said that certain apps would be able to send things to each other. I hope someone will come in and correct me, as this is not real bluetooth, IMO. I still can't send my business card to another phone, or even an iPhone, unless we both launch the same app...

Very excited with new updates.

All that's left is Flash support.

Maybe some Hulu for iPhone.

Now I'm getting greedy ;)

Satisfactory...all these should have launched with the original phone or even the 3G model but still better late than never.

I was impressed with the Pre search thing that searches phone and then web. Now Apple releases their version which I am sure is better. This OS rendering will be kill the Pre release.

I'm pleased that they've FINALLY added these features, but am hardly blown away.

You can't implement MMS on the original iphone? Come on...

Otherwise, I'd say that its about time.... WHY should I be impressed that it took so long to do what other phones did YEARS ago?

I am happy that these features have been added, but some of the preceding posts sound like Apple has just done something totally innovative and incredible.

OOOOOHHH! Maybe their next great update will have video recording like my old phone had 4 years ago! OOOHHH!

Again, a great update but iphone is still playing catchup in the features department. NOBODY has a phone that matches the iphone UI or the incredible app store and that is what makes me stick. Also, every other phone OS update usually charges for major OS upgrades. Kudos to Apple for not doing that.

I cannot WAIT to see what remote control app developers do with the bluetooth connectivity. Talk about being able to have the perfect home theater remote now.... :D:D

How can it be mind blowing? Implimentation of old technology cant be described as mind blowing.

Thank you! Not one thing announced isnt already being done on any smart-phone worth its salt. All they did was end the 2 year wait for features that should have been there from day one. They hardly deserve to be patted on the back for it.

Very very impressed here. The lack of MMS is a real problem over here in the UK as every phone from about 2001 has had this feature... it's difficult explaining that to someone when you are trying to justify your £350 phone :p

I'm not too bothered about new hardware this summer as long as the software updates keep coming and there's a 32GB model by the time my contract ends in Feb '10.

Also... Spotlight :-D what a nice little surprise!

They are going to need a turbo battery for the third gen iPhone. iPhone and iPhone 3G will be raped for battery life.

And I hope they spend a lot of time polishing this so its not like the 2.0 fiasco.

Other than that, mind blowing :D Me and my buddy Stephen Fry always knew iPhone 3 would be the big deal.

i am happy that apple has implemented these features but i will definitely wait atleast a month after 3.0 comes out - perhaps until 3.0.1?

right now 2.2.1 jailbreak is all i need - however if it is jailbroken fast enough, and i can still tether (whether AT&T likes it or not) i will upgrade and JB it for sure - before a revision comes out

but i will definitely not be searching around for the beta!

And what makes you say that?

Apple just caught up to about every cell Phone maker with copy/paste and MMS

Well Apple tried to do away with the floppy (MMS) by including the CD drive (email). However many people are still on the floppy mode so Apple is adding the floppy mode for the slower people.
