To be quite honest, I'm considering sitting the next iteration of the iPhone out and waiting for the 2013 model - particularly if they change the size and the design changes massively. Might even update to the 4S if my current 4 gives up before then.

The *S models seem to be the better upgrade path to be on, since any issues with the design change can be ironed out and the Phone gets a decent spec upgrade.

I'm ambivalent about screen size - I can see the merits of a larger screen but am happy with my current phone. My only disappointment, if they leave the screen as it is, will be all the subsequent posts written by people throwing their dummy out of the pram because Apple hasn't listened to their personal wishes.

At first I also liked the smaller size from the iPhone, but since I've been using a 4.3" Sony Xperia S I can't go back. Typing is much easier, it does not feel big in my hands at all and it also looks better in my opinion.

And the Xperia S is a big phone for a 4.3" screen (wide bezels).

Aside from the iPhone, isn't MOST phones now a days around 4" and above? I'm referring to the big dawgs. You rarely see $199 phones in the 3" range anymore.

Most models or most smartphones actually sold? In the US at least, iPhone apparently has 30% of the market.

I am not boycotting a bigger display. I am boycotting a bigger footprint. In Apple can put a 4"+ screen in the same physical phone I won't mind and care.

Why would anybody boycott a phone with a bigger screen

Thats the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

2012 - The year of the pointless boycotters.

You do realize that doing such a thing will mean it will look like crap, don't you? Apple isn't in the habit of making their products look like crap.

No matter what, you're getting a bigger footprint this Fall.

What's the point of discussing if you know everything?

I don't know everything, but everybody should know that a 4 inch screen needs a bigger iPhone in order for the whole thing to look good. It's common sense.

He's right though. There is no doubt that it's getting bumped to 4".

One of the reasons I'm dumping my Razr and getting the 4s is screen size. Although 3.5 is small, it beats the behemoth that my Razr is. I feel that 4" is the sweet spot. I had the Droid Incredible at 3.5" and preferred it to what I have now.

I don't think 4" is enough anymore. And why couldn't Apple (with it's billions in reserve) put out two models this year? They'll be a complete redesign anyway, so they could put out a 3.5" or 4" model and a 4.5" model. Everyone on the planet would buy one or the other.

Apple has the clout, R&D, money and market to pull this off easily. I think at this late date, only one model (4") would be wimping out when they have so much opportunity. I hope they don't squander it.

They just want to get into the 4 inch department like the rest of the phones out there so they don't look tiny this year. They'll stop there until we start wearing computers on our bodies.

All in all, I think we all would have to actually see the device in order to get a good idea of size/function before making any decisions.

That being said, my opinion on the matter is that 3.5" is the sweet spot and I don't have very large hands so I quite like the current size.

Tell me, why make it bigger?

Too wide of a cell phone is a big turn off for me. I"ll take a 4 inch iPhone if the form factor is the same, which by all indications it will be. If it would go wider like some of the androids, than I would consider the below phones instead..

I would love it if the next iPhone came with a 4" screen as this would be the perfect size for me.

Many of you have said that 3.5 was the ideal size and that you would never go any higher than that.

Are you going to stay true to your word and refuse to buy the 4 inch iPhone because it doesn't meet your requirements?

How about we'll let you know AFTER Apple launch a 4" screen iPhone seeing as NO ONE has confirmed or stated it as fact that they will launch one, we all 'assume' they will.

This is so much like last year when everyone was making threads about the redesigned iPhone we would all get because it was a fact it would be redesigned because Mac Rumors had some cases for it from case manufacturers... and look what happened....

It's a pretty good assumption though. Especially since the big hitters are the ones reporting the 4" screen info.

And really, what would be the point of Apple introducing a new phone if it's going to remain 3.5"? Apple knows the 3.5" is an embarrassment in the market these days.

It is NOT a pretty good assumption, as I said last year, iPhone cases showing a redesign... and it's not embarrassing to have a 3.5" display, do you in some way feel inadequate about yourself if you have a 3.5" display? I don't, I think the idiots are the ones with HDTV's in their pockets, but that's their choice.

And also, the sales numbers hardly show it's an embarrassment do they!!

If Apple has any sense they'll offer a 4.3"+ phone as well as continuing with the 3.5" one. No need to alienate anybody.

And they should have a 3 inch, a no-screen and a 5-inch too.

Or maybe they should offer the products they want to.

I imagine there were people who were incensed when the Mac gave up on that 9 in, 512×342 screen too.
