Only from Apple, will the 3.5-ers realize the benefits of a larger screen device, and realize after all how easy it is to handle it with one hand or fit it into your pocket.

I'm being serious; give Apple the chance to explain why they've gone with a bigger screen, and the naysayers will understand. Until then, it's a wasted effort.

You had me until Lumia. Those have been such a failure.

I just don't think I'll ever be interested in Android because of the fragmentation, and lack of consistency in updates. But I'm open to considering innovative products in the future when/if released whether they're from Apple or a competitor. If Windows can follow Apple's model with consistency in OS and updates, etc., in an original way, I will at least consider their phones. I think the Lumia is a nice-looking phone and the OS looks interesting, too, although I know the 910 has had its issues. Just saying I'm open-minded about it. I'll probably end up sticking with Apple anyway because I love my iPad and MBP and it all works together plus I've got a big investment in iTunes and apps.. But Apple better "bring it" this fall with the next iPhone!

I know right? But look at the 17 downvotes I got just for posting this thread. A lot of people are upset that the screen size will be bigger than 3.5 inches this year.

It's pretty crazy that people are so against having their phone benefit from a larger screen that isn't even that large compared to what a lot of people are using these days.

Those 17 are against the millions that thing the screen is too small lol. I've used about every Android phone I've found that (at least for my hands) 4" is a PERFECT screen size

Honestly the thing I love about the iPhone's screen size is that my thumb can span the entire width of the screen. From the looks of it it seems the new screen is going to pretty much keep the width and make it taller... I'm fine with that. If they make it wider then I'd be a little upset but I wouldn't boycott because of it.

Of course not. In true fanboy fashion, those who are saying they don't want or care about it will be singing its praises and how its the greatest thing ever on a phone once its released :) Thats how Apple fanboys are. They make like things they don't have on their iPhone isn't a big deal (like notification bars, multitasking etc..) and then once they are added to the iPhone, they all the sudden love it. Same will be true with 4G. My friends with iPhone act like its no big deal to be stuck on 3G, even when I can pull up websites like 10 times faster. iPhone users are good at settling.

Right, cause 6 Mbps is just soooooooo slow. Sometimes I have to blink twice before the page loads. I just settle.

When I had the Razr, LTE was off most of the time because of the way it drains the battery. I only turned it on when absolutely necessary, which wasn't very often.

It's a phone and apple should keep it that way the bigger it gets the more uncomfortable it is to hold in your hands. Want a big screen buy an iPad!

While I don't think anything is wrong with a 3.5" display, the thought of a bigger one wouldn't make me less likely to get a new iPhone.

I'm not a fan of the iPhone because it's got a 3.5" display. I'm a fan of it because of the build quality, the gorgeous design and (most importantly) iOS.

When I get round to replacing my 4, I'll be getting whatever iPhone is newest, regardless of display size. An iPhone is an iPhone, and I doubt Apple would ever make the display impractically big to the extent that I can't get used to it in a day.

I'm not spending a couple hundred dollars extra for 0.5 of an inch of screen.

It's seriously a very minor bump, especially if it's only increasing upwards.

As mentioned before, this wouldn't do anything to aid typing in portrait mode. Hopefully, though, iOS 6 brings [much needed] improvements to the keyboard. Engadget's editorial today about iOS 6 sums it up nicely: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/11/editorial-ios-6-wishlist/

"Tim: Open up the keyboard

I'm quite confident this isn't going to happen, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway: I'd like to see Apple open up the keyboard on iOS. I use SwiftKey on my Android device and have absolutely fallen in love with it. It learns my patterns and knows my habits. I can jerkily throw my thumbs at the screen as fast as possible yet still get meaningful sentences out the other end. Stepping back to the iOS keyboard on an iPhone or iPad feels like trading in your Ferrari for a tired Corolla that's seen 150,000 miles of hard use as a rental car.

I'd love to see Apple open things up so that third-parties (namely: SwiftKey) can plug in their own means of textual input. Short of that, Apple needs to take a big step forward with the stock keyboard. It needs to be customizable, it needs to be better about learning what I type and it needs to learn a few tricks from SwiftKey or RIM's slick new keyboard. I need gestures, I need personalization and I need something smart enough to figure out what I meant to type when my big fat thumbs are tapping fast and furious."

Many of you have said that 3.5 was the ideal size and that you would never go any higher than that.

Are you going to stay true to your word and refuse to buy the 4 inch iPhone because it doesn't meet your requirements?

Hahahah. yeah right. If Apple iPhone goes 4" on screen size , then they will say 4" is the perfect size. Who didn't know that !

Bigger screen, 4G, 4-core CPU... let's think about how fast the battery will be sucked dry with that hardware, shall we?

Especially if they are looking at slimmer, tear-drop casing designs.

The FIRST thing they need to upgrade before they add ANY new hardware features is a BATTERY that won't drain in 4 hours of regular use. (non-standby mode activities)

Streaming HD video on that phone over 4G will MAYBE give you enough time to watch most of the movie before the credits roll.

They need to optimize power consumption and get more battery life before they do anything. Otherwise, it'll be another crap Android phone.
