Absolutely. Apple has a mind control effect on certain people. They seem to magically agree with anything Apple does and claim they came to the same conclusions Apple did. It's quite creepy to see, especially considering many of those people are grown adults.

I remember the days when Apple couldnt give their computers away and they were Ugly! I think it was was around the first iMacs with those colored all in one monitors that they started to get noticed more.

I made a poll about what the best screen size for the iPhone is and when the majority of people starting saying they want at least a 4 inch iPhone, I got responses like this guy's.

I think it will be fun to make a thread showing all the people like this guy who said anything but 3.5 is a dealbreaker AND ended up buying the glorious 4 inch iPhone this Fall. It will be quite the psychological observation. :D

Its going to happen. They will still buy one and then say THAT one is perfect.

Polls don't mean a darn thing. Apple gives us what they want, not what a poll shows. Should have learned that ages ago with all the other polls that resulted in not getting what one wants. ;)
You are completely right. The Apple reality distortion field is all that matters.

i am not a "3.5" lover" as you say. I think 4.0" is the perfect size. i'm a 4.5" and above HATER. I'm a "3.5" enjoyer". i would be a "4.3" puter-upper."

But for sure, if the only choice was between a 3.5" phone or all the ghastly 4.5"+ android coming out it wouldn't even be a question: 3.5" for sure!

but yeah, 4.0" is the perfect size for a PHONE.

Only problem is these aren't really phones anymore. They are pocket computers that happen to have a phone calling function. What good is a brilliant screen if text is rendered too small to read? That is the major difference between the iPhone's 3.5" screen and something like the One X, which is just positively brilliant to look at.

Also, screen size is just one part of the equation. Bezel width and overall design greatly influence the resultant size. The One X is really not that much bigger at all than an iPhone, but because of it's excellent design and tiny bezel, it packs a much better screen. Saying you "HATE" 4.5 inch screens seems ridiculous. Do you realize the iPhone 4S is a little more than 5 inches corner to corner? Do you "HATE" it? What if it had a 4.5 screen with a slim 2mm bezel all around in the same form factor? What if it was just a tiny bit bigger and had a 4.8" screen?

Seems to me like you just try to find a way to bash competitive phones out of hand. The iPhone 4S is good. Android phones are good. That's just how it is.

Key question for me is not screen size.

The larger issue and the larger question is if the phone is junk.

Android phones are junk, period, so I don't buy them anymore. After 5 different models over 3 years, I learned my lesson.

Will the new iPhone be junk? No, so Apple has my business. Now, will the new iPhone be enticing enough for me to buy it off contract? That's my current line of thinking.

If not, my i4S is an amazing device.

I am not boycotting a bigger display. I am boycotting a bigger footprint. In Apple can put a 4"+ screen in the same physical phone I won't mind and care.

This! Besides, I am very happy with the 4S (vast improvement on the 4 IMHO), it's all about functionality than form factor for me. If the new iPhone improves on the camera for instance, or has a much better processor and/or enhanced memory then I know I will be very tempted but otherwise, I will sit the next one out. It won't be easy, I know BUT I will try and resist.

Boycotting a phone because you don't like a small difference in the form factor? What purpose would that serve? Apple won't care.
Don't worry. People who will cry and shriek if the phone is bigger will hold it and fall into Apple's spell once again and plunk down the cash when it comes out.

I'm more worried about the software since Apple has the hardware part in a bag.

Yes, i think the argument is for the same form factor, and if anything a larger screen.I'll be happy to wait and see, but i think a lot of people are scared of Apple throwing us a boomerang sized phone with a large screen because of the faux desire to have a large phone v large screen.

I hope, and believe Apple can develop a current form factor with a larger screen with more pixels per inch to ensure the larger screen maintains the 'retina' display.

Well just for the record I never stated I was against a larger screen. I likely won't get it in the fall because my current contract runs until January 2013 but who knows the RDF might make me buy an unlocked one full price anyway. :D

I'm in the same boat as some... I'm not at all worried about the hardware side of things from Apple.

It's the software I'm holding my breath on. At this point and time, ICS does so many things better than iOS 5, save for a few things (e.g. people like to tout iOS is many times more stable; it is more stable, but the gap has been seriously closed by ICS). The vast majority of everyday tasks and functions on ICS are better: keyboard, browsing, mail, etc. (It still baffles me why iOS' Mail doesn't show full threads, as in both inbox and sent emails in the same threaded conversation. Having to navigate out of the Inbox section to the Sent section to read everything is... ridiculous. I hate how this can't be done on my iPad either).

iOS 6 needs to bring it.

Disclaimer: I was once a 4 and 4S owner.

Apple rocks.., everything they do is sheer magic.., chris angel type stuff. love it or hate it. oh, i kinda want a 4" display, too. kinda miss that on my nexus s.:D

As long as the display quality isn't effed up I don't care if it's a bigger screen.

I think its rather interesting people are complaining about a bigger screen because those same people will be lined up on launch day.

You are a fool. You equate me saying i HATE 4.5" screens with an iphone's entire physical size? foolishnessssssssss. I hate how big phones are when they have 4.5" screens. The One X is 20 mm taller and more than 11 mm wider. You need to get your eyes checked if you thinkg it's not much bigger.

Yes, if you minimize bezel you can fit a bigger screen into the same form factor but A) you can't eliminate bezel because it's needed on a touchscreen device for proper operation (it would suck to hold a bezel-less phone and try not to be clicking apps or bringing up settings menus all the time or pausing videos, etc) and so B) the size of a phone necessitated by the above point and other constraints of technology that is required to house a 4.5" screen or above is what i hate.

But good job twisting my words...

Saying that the One X isn't much bigger than the iphone is ridiclious. I own both phones. The One X is much bigger. The One X screen is almost as big as the whole iphone. Now the One X is not huge by any means. But one handed operation is. Not the best.

Thanks for letting us know. This is one of the main reasons for not going with a 4.3+ inch phone: one handed operation just isn't as good.

If I want a bigger screen when I get home I'll use my laptop. But while I am out there doing my job and multitasking I'd rather have something comfortable and compact for one handed use and on the go tasks.

Not to mention as you get bigger and bigger screens the battery life goes down since powering the screen uses about 80% of the battery.

This is one of the more brilliant posts ever placed on these boards.

What in the heck are you people doing with your phones that you can't do one handed??

I am continually baffled by this. One handed operation of a 4"-4.5" screen is easy and a good experience. The only people stating differently are the ones who don't have them.

Pull your heads out of Timmy Cook's bum and you'll see the light. I'm not trying to be mean, but you people dismay me.

Agree. Edge to edge screen retains form factor with larger screen. Best of both worlds.

I never said that I could not use my One X one handed. I said the experience is not that great. Not as easy as using the iphone. Yes the phone is huge compared to the iphone. Yes my 4S is much easier to use one handed.

Texting is difficult one handed as the phone wants to slip out of your hand because it is so wide. I grip my iphone With my palm and pinky and text one handed with my thumb. I did this while at the airport checking up on a flight and texting my wife at the same time. I cannot do that with the One X because it so too wide.

I have to let it rest in my palm and angle it so I can reach it with my thumb. Doable, but not as easy. The phone feels like it will slip out of my hand. The iphone I can grip.

The phone is wide. And I don't have small hands. The phone is long also.

Apple thought out all aspects of one handed use. Is easy and comfortable to hold. This is one reason that I am using the 4S more than the One X now. The user experience.

The One X is not. I love my One X and have defended it on this board numerous times. Against Apple fanboys saying it sucks. And there is 'fanboys' on here as we all know. I am also a Apple fan but will use whatever I think is the better device.

You assume way too much. I am telling it like it is. If one handed use for me was as good as the iphone i would tell you. It is not. Not even close. Most Android manufactures do not figure this into the equation when designing the phone with a huge screen. I accept that. Nor do they spend or think about design as Apple does such as usability, I accept that also.

Apple in my opinion thinks about the user experience first and foremost. Most Android designers and companies approach this in a different way than Apple. I accept that.

They think that a huge screen with the biggest processors to wow people is the way to go. And sometimes it is. I like the One X not knocking it at all. I love the phone. Usability one handed is not it's strong point. How hard is this to understand?

When the iphone has a 4' screen with the same form factor or a little bigger I will welcome it as I like a bigger screen, but not so much a bigger phone.

I don't think I will upgrade to the new iPhone if it does not have a larger screen. I'm certainly am not interested in anything close to Note size (and don't want to look like a complete idiot walking around with a phablet!) but I would like to see the screen size increased, perhaps to 4-4.3-inch range. Although I love the beautiful design of the 4/4s, I increasingly find myself wishing I had a larger screen for internet and document purposes, perhaps because I spend so much time on the iPad. If there's no increase in screen real estate, I will probably just stick with my 4s for the moment until something comes along, maybe even (gasp!) a new and improved Windows Lumia phone.

Come on that same crew will come around screaming how what ever new size is perfect and only idiots want to stay at 3.5.
This.

All it's going to take is Apple to say, "We believe this is the new standard size for phones..." They will start worshipping the new screen size then.

Most of us are sick of this little 3.5" screen. It was nice when it got retina and all, but Netflix and watching live sports on it is pointless. It is so much better on a 4.3" device.

You had me until Lumia. Those have been such a failure.
