I dont find it very good in work. Its fine at home (where i have WiFi and dont need it). But in work it wont stream TVcatchup.com, when my iPhone on O2 does easily. This was the case before the ipad stream fo that site too.

Likewise, I have no problem with YouTube at home (Newcastle), but it doesn't work in London. I'm guessing they have their network configured to block high bandwidth sites/streams in cells where capacity/contention is an issue.

Fantastic speed on the 3 network

Ran speedtest app at home on iPad running 3 sim and then o2 sim to compare results. Was in exactly same place indoors as well, results as follows.

3 network
Download - 3.13 Mb
Up. - 0.27 Mb

O2 network
Download - 0.25 Mb
Up. - 0.08 Mb

Like I said earlier in thread I like the on the iPad management with o2 but at speeds like that with 3 and also better coverage I am led to believe it's too hard too ignore
I was lucky as well as only took 10 mins on phone to setup, was really easy and was up and running 15 mins after that

Finally got my iPad! Went for the Three SIM as recommended. South African woman on the phone was excellent and very polite, so the whole thing only took about 10-15 minutes.

Waiting for the SIM to activate - any ideas roughly how long it will take, and how do you know when it is activated?

Congrats on your purchase. Should take within 24 hours, some people have had it within 1hour. Easiest way to tell is to keep wifi off, enable celluar data, and when you have Internet connection, it should show the carrier name '3' next to it should be a '3G' logo when it's activated.

The problem with Three is that it's all or nothing, 3G or no connection at all, at least with O2, or Orange, or Voda it gracefully drops down to Edge and then GPRS if 3G isn't available. Which is very handy and maintains push notifications etc.

If it hasn't shown "3G" (with wifi off, as DenniZ advises) within three hours, try shutting down and restarting the iPad. A power cycle is sometimes required to kick it into life. After that you should be in business.

My Three microSIM was activated in about twenty minutes.

Just re-booted it and got full 3G signal...can't wait to test this out on the road when i'm used to crappy O2! Sucks to be paying for a separate iPad data plan as well as my iPhone...but i'm gonna try out Three for the month i've paid for, then if I like it, buy one of those 12Gb pre-loaded data SIMs off eBay and cut it down.

I got the 12Gb sim for my iPad and never looked back. I haven't had to phone up to activate anything. That includes one Three voice sim and two data sims. They just worked.

There is a way around that. If you get one of the sims that are designed for a phone then it will fall back on edge etc. But it's a bit of a different price structure.

I am that used to 3G or WIFI now that edge and lower is so slow it's not worth it.

Boblister, if you wouldn't mind me asking, do you have any links to preloaded data SIM cards, I believe I have found the one everyone talks about on eBay, but it appears to be an open auction and you are not able to 'buy it now'.

Sorry just checked and it looks like the guy I bought off has sold them all.

Yeah, no more left from my original seller. They do have some 3GB (90 days) ones left though (£8.99) the seller is a1techstore.

Another way to get a similar offer is to try a three pay as you go sim, its a £5 a month add on to get 'unlimited internet' with three taking action when you reach 2GB in a month.

That's what I am using in my iPhone. Works our very well. A1store are the guys I bought the 12gb one from so they must have had a run on them. I also bought a 90 day off them a bit back for the wifes mifi. They seem reliable sellers.

I was so impressed with their service I ordered another one after receiving the first one, as my dad has a 3G iPad as well. I'd just wait for them to get stock, or chip for the £9 one, it works out about them same as the £36 one. Or go on pay as you go.

Either way, you avoid all those annoying call centres ;)

I agree totally. Though recent reports about customer service has been good. I ported a number from O2 to them a few weeks ago and it was smooth as hell. I nearly fell over. I am wondering if Apple has given them an ear bashing.

Aye, those 3gb £8.99 ones seem fair enough, although they only last 3 months, so it works out more expensive than my £7.50/month 1gb rolling subscription!

EDIT: Ignore my retarded maths.

Are you doing your maths right?

8.99 for 3GB split over 3 months
£2.99/month/GB

or

£7.50/month/GB ?

Oh dear God...I should be ashamed of myself. Sorry, browsing iPad apps all day has clearly melted my brain. :p

Apologies, you are correct.

Haha, don't worry, I get into a weird trance on my iPad as well. Either way, three are going to be cheap and they have very good coverage around me.

Work out the box, no activation or call centres required, they start the moment its been put into your iPad.

Sweet, that settles it then. Why on earth would anyone sign up for a 3G plan with any other provider when this solution exists.

Well not many people knew about the deal, only just came into the limelight plus people think that a micro sim is a completely different sim, but it's still technically just a cut down standard sim.

One problem is that apparently you either get 3G or no converge.
