How old are you?

What is the problem with the thread? I am sure there must be a lot of people that never tried Android before and would be interested to know why some guy decided that iOS is better for him..
I tried to like Android, invested a lot of money in apps, but the love was not there..When I touch an iPhone I feel things...

What exactly are you feeling when you touch your iPhone. I just feel glass, plastic and metal or maybe I'm doing it wrong :D

Switching to a different OS, can be jarring and cause panic, and give an uncomfortable feeling

But...you have to give it time, not just a day or two, that's not fair whatsoever, even one week isn't enough. It needs to be a solid month, and also not touch your other device at all, lock it up in a drawer, so it forces you to use the new phone.

I prefer Android OS myself, not sure I could switch to iOS, and the tiny wristwatch sized toy phone, but after a month I'm sure I would adjust and might actually like it. Maybe I will come the iPhone 6.

I am a big Nexus Android nerd, but will agree that the iOS Notification Center is much better than Android's, as is iMessage, and yes Hangouts blows, I wish Google just copied iMessage and made it their own call it gMessage or something :) And the lock screen / Notifications on Androids needs a major updating IMO.

As big an Android fan as I am, if the iPhone 6 has like a 4.8" screen, and iOS8 updated and revised, I might be tempted to jump ship maybe.

My advice? Get a Moto G and just tool around. It matters not that you prefer IOS, you will get a nice experience with that device for android. Want even further fun? Get a Nokia 521 and install Windows 8.1.

Now you would be closer to a jack of all OSes.

So, why do I go back to the iPhone?

Many reasons...Android is certainly a good OS, but there are things that bother me and couldn't get used to them:
* App quality is most of the times worse than on iOS. There are some good apps out there though. An example of a whole app category where iOS is unbeatable: Calendar and Tasks apps..It's like night and day..
* The Google Play store cannot be compared to the AppStore...
*If you are not prepared to root your device, then Android OS gets also boring, as iOS...Maybe because both OS work pretty well...
*Notifications: The lock screen notifications of iOS are much better than any plugin or widget can accomplish on Android. Android does't natively support lock screen notifications, but there are widgets and apps that imitate iOS behavior...but they do not work as well as the original...
*Video playback support is not as good as on the iOS...I know there are many video players, but iOS offers much better compatibility with mp4 files. MKV files on the other hand play very well on Android too (you need an app on iOS for that..)
*The fact that Dropbox runs in the background on Android and saves taken pictures automatically is great, but on iOS we have Photostream that does the exact same thing, and is much better integrated in the OS..
*The lack of Mac integration can be frustrating at times...
* The OS is not as polished as iOS and looks worse too! I don't believe I am saying that, but iOS 7 is beautiful...
*No FaceTime and no iMessages...Hangouts is a joke of an application. I am sorry Google fans, but you haven't probably seen Messages and FaceTime working...It's like night and day

About the HTC One M8: It is a great device, has great screen (but with much worse color accuracy compared to the iPhone), has amazing speakers which I will really miss, but it is too big to carry around..After using it for almost three weeks, I can safely say that I don't want such a big phone...I don't want to always worry how I am going to carry it with me, or how I am going to hold it...I believe the current iPhone is a little bit small, so a size up to 4,7" (as a maximum), is ok. If the rumors are true, the next iPhone will offer a 4,7" size...

So, I ordered an iPhone 5S and it comes on Monday morning...Goodbye Android, I will not miss you.

Some good points. Disagree about iOS 7 being pretty and i think i can even get some iOS users to agree here. It's rather inconsistent mostly being the icons on the home screen. flat, non flat, crazy colors. and generally looking like a crappy version (yes crap) of Windows 7. And, it's wayyy too bright.

I do agree that apple app store is better and gets must apps first, but not a crazy amount better, especially on phones.

Also, you said you got bored. Why? What is boring about Android? You can have custom icons and launchers without root. You can have lock screen notifications (ios had this forever) without root. You can have a terminal emulator and a crazy bunch of free apps. You can get a file browser without root. You have automated apps like Tasker.

Good luck with iOS 7 :)

Some of these items make no sense to me, don't think 3 weeks was enough for you to grasp android
It's fairly obvious you didn't try very hard but that's okay
Not being able to play mp4 blows me away.. Like that is simple stuff. Android media players are one area that is certainly more robust
And googles version of photo stream is built into the OS, though you can certainly use Dropbox if you want..

You can't just search for whatever apps you have on ios straight onto android. Often times other android apps are superior to their respective ios ports(on android that is)

Aside from hangouts not merging SMS and 'internet messages' what is actually wrong with the application? You speak as if it doesn't text or video chat well. The reason it is worse is because you can't just use the persons phone number, the application works just fine.. Like night and day is a ridiculous comparison. I bet you never even hangouts video chatted with anyone.

Ios lock screen notifications are better, but I prefer androids regular notifications/notification center. Best for me would be a combination of the two.

Hangouts does merge SMS & internet messaging into one now compared to having two separate conversation as before when talking to one person.

S-Planner calendar app is very good, I actually like it better than the stock google calendar. Business Calendar is also good which I use when using a non-TW ROM.

Indeed it does merge the messages, but you must choose which source to send it too. As in choose SMS or 'Internet message'

iMessage intelligently tries over internet first, then falls back to SMS. Which it it's only advantage really. (Yes it is significant) but that doesn't make hangouts crap or terribly worse

When I was still using an iphone I actually had disabled iMessage, because for me nothing beats the rock hard stability of SMS.

I'm still going strong with my S5. It's working well.

I don't really miss my iPhone all that much, though I am looking forward to iOS8 and iPhone 6 and there is a good chance I may change back in the fall.

I can play mp4 files but with m4v files there are issues. Pausing and resuming doesn't always work..
I am not searching for the same apps, but I expect that all of my computers communicate on a certain level and interoperate...

Fair enough I don't have any macs

Airdroid is probably one of the better ways to connect android devices to macs, I've heard android file transfer can be a real bear. I'm not sure if macs can do smb shares, but it works beautifully for getting files off windows pcs. The standard plugin and manage the phone as if it's a USB flash drive works as well, though quite certain not on mac

Between
Bsplayer
Mxplayer
Dice player

I've never failed to be able to play a video

I must not be a power calendar user, but using a google account my iPad and android phone calendar syncs up together great. Using stock Calender on both

Hangouts does merge online chats and SMS now it was updated a few weeks back.

Edit - I see you answered above.

Gotcha, yes you're right on the bold part. Can't comment on iMessage since I don't use it on my MBP nor have any iOS devices.

I have MX Player and it works great for everything but m4v files, which I have on iTunes.

I use hosted Exchange for mail, calendar and tasks, so I need Apps that work great with it. Today I discovered DigiCal and I like it. It's the first calendar app that I like.

What exactly are you feeling when you touch your iPhone. I just feel glass, plastic and metal or maybe I'm doing it wrong :D

You are holding it wrong :)

I feel things :)

It's a matter of taste. Some people like iOS and some people like Android. It doesn't mean either one is inferior to another.

I can put together a list of why I can't go back to iOS too:
- Pushbullet
- AirDroid lets me send real SMS messages (not just iMessage on Macs) remotely
- Love the bigger screen (4.7-5.0")
- Automation with Tasker
- Much more selection of handsets, in some cases (Nexus, Moto X/G) they're much cheaper off/on contract than iPhones

Now for tablets, I still prefer the iPad, but I don't think I'll ever go back to the iPhone...

I have my work exchange account on my phone too. Using google calendar and stock email. Nine is a highly recommended 3rd party exchange client. I've been looking at it, but I really like the stock android email client and haven't felt the need to change yet. The coolest part for me is that you don't have to lockdown the entire phone due to exchange policies, just the app itself. There are other options like touchdown, but nine seems to get the ravest reviews.

Have no input on Calender apps, I actually like the google one (in weekly view),but my Calender needs are simple

I don't have the work exchange on my iPad, so can't comment on synchronization there, but id imagine it'd be fine.

Bye, have fun with your 5S! :)

I will continue standing with one foot in each camp, hoping that they both improve because they can both be annoying as hell, each in their own ways. Or maybe I end up giving them both the finger and hopping over to WP :D

In any case, the future continues to be in motion, so I don't feel the need to take a permanent stance towards any of them.

Better compatibility for MP4? What do you mean? My phone has played every mp4 I've come across. How can it get better than that?

I didnt understand that one either. Never had issues with MP4 and Android plays many more type is platforms than iOS.

I am however failing to understand Hangouts very well and still not liking it much but when it updates i stay with it to see how it is improved. Has a ways to go imo. I just go back to Textra if i still dont like it. Textra is great but i really WANT Hangouts to work for my tastes since it has a built in Facetime.

It will get there i just dont care for how its setup right now.

I agree with 1&2.
3. I don't find either iOS or Android boring.
4. NiLs Floating Panel is the only lock screen notifications that I have used that I find better than stock iOS. Not only does it show you the notifications and allow to launch right into the app, but you also get actionable notifications, so I can delete spam email directly from my lock screen without having to go into my mail app.

5. I'm not sure about this. I stream most of my video through Hulu, Netflix, and HBO.
6. I like dropbox better because it also backups video. I use it on my iPhone too over photo stream.
7. I'm not sure I get this one. Other than syncing through iTunes, there really isn't a difference between how my iPhone and M8 interact with my Mac.
8. I sort of disagree here. I think stock android or sense android both look better than iOS, but iOS looks MUCH better than say touchwiz or LG's skin.
9. Yes, agree with you here too. iMessage and FaceTime are just so easy to use and have great quality. I FaceTime with my family all the time, there's no way I could do that with other services. My parents always call me when they try to Skype my family in South America and I always have to explain to them step by step how to log on and initiate a video call.

I still give a slight overall advantage to iOS, but Android has come a long way and on my M8 I really don't see any disadvantage in using it over my iPhone 5S, other than the camera. In fact, its been almost a month since I got my M8 and haven't really used my iPhone since, which I usually attribute to being in the "honeymoon" period, but it being a month now I may have found a new favorite phone, at least until the iPhone 6 comes out.

Sorry, but I disagree with this. Why should someone who spent their hard earned money be expected to change around the way they do things unless there is a clear advantage to them?

If someone picks up a new platform, doesn't like how things are different, and doesn't see a clear advantage to learning this new paradigm than it should be expected that they switch back. You can generally tell within a few days if its worth your while to figure the new system out or not.

I agree with the guy you replied to. It takes a lot more than a few days. I came from iOS and about teh 2-3 wek mark is where i was dicovering more things and was liking it and he is right. You have to leave your iPhone alone and i took me a week to do that. If you dont, your just going to keep doing it the same way and stay with the convieniece of not wanting something different.

I see iPhone users do this all the time. They bring their iPhone with them even though they just got a new Android and still use it most of the time and ask me how to use their new phone when picking it up once in a while.

My problem with Nils floating panel is that when I turn on my device (most of the times by using the swipe up gesture), the numeric panel also appears, and notifications are being displayed on top. At the end you have a mess on the screen. If I remember to turn on my device in a different way, then this is not an issue.

What I mean with Mac integration is pretty much simple: There are many Mac apps that have an iOS counterpart. Things, Omnifocus, Day One Journal, to name a few. There is no Android version of these apps..
At least 1Password has a very stable beta for Android that works great..

I think that more time is needed in order to properly evaluate an OS. 3 weeks though are enough time, since I have spent hours and hours with Android, reading stuff, installing ton of apps, etc.
From the time I posted the original article I have changed my mind, or better said, I am in a dilemma now...Using my M8 feels great, and today there were some app updates that make the whole experience better for me.

It's the reliable syncing through iTunes that is keeping me with my iPhone 5 instead of getting the M8 - particularly the 2 way syncing of calendars and contacts to my iMac. If you, or anybody else, knows of a reliable way of doing this without using any cloud storage, I would love to hear about it. I know of the existence of various 3rd party applications but all I keep reading is how unreliable they are. If there are people here with good experiences, please share them.

Sorry, I just disagree with that. If your spending $600+ on a device, unless there is a clear advantage, I don't see why you would make someone relearn how do things they can already do and know how to do on their current device. Especially when you only have a 14 day return window.

So if all you do is surf the web, check email, and sms, I don't see the point in going to the trouble of relearning a new system if your current phone is just as capable of doing those things.

Its like what windows phone is facing now (or at least before 8.1), where why would you relearn and adjust to a new system if it doesn't work better for you from the get go? I'm not talking about people who like the way windows phone work, but I'm talking about people who pick it up and don't like it, why should they spend their money and "give it a chance" unless there is a clear advantage for them to do so? And why should they if all their going to do is the same things they were already doing on their old phone? So they spend a month or 2 relearning and readjusting and adapting their habits just to do the exact same things?

Now, if your switching because you see a clear advantage to the new system, then yes an adjustment period is needed, but with only two weeks you really need to nail down your new work flow within a week so you have a couple of days with it afterwards to see if you like it.

With nils, there is a setting that will make the floating the panel disappear if you touch the screen, its in settings called "hide on outside tap".

If that doesn't work for you, there really isn't anything else that I have found that works as well as iOS.

As for the Mac stuff, I see what your saying. I generally stick to cross platform services so I can switch around without having to worry about what I'm using. Have you emailed the developers to see if an android version is at least in the works? It may help you make your decision if you knew those apps were coming or not.

There is an app called Syncmate for Mac that apparently does that local sync, but I don't know how good it works. It needs USB debugging mode though, which can be easily activated by first enabling developer mode on the Android device..

I will check the setting on the Nils app. Thanks for that
