Glad some of you agree that buttons rock. I guess it's just a prefrence but if I'm dropping 400 bucks on a phone I would like to be satisfied.... thats my only reason for not buying an iphone and it's hard being a mac fanboy and not have their main new gadget. :(

Haha, that's just UGLY people. Some of the point with iPhone is that it is 1 home-button and touchscreen. And it's genius.

And volume control. And ringer switch.

Wish the Touch had a real volume control. And it'd be handy to have an easier way of scrolling quickly down a long forum thread or other web page. Yes, perhaps even cursor keys since I often surf one handed. Hate scrolling and accidentally hitting links!

There are some reasons why having a keyboard would be nice, but there are plenty of alternatives and the thickness would be annoying...

And I do realize it would be a little thicker with keyboard which is why I would hope they offered it as an additional version of the iphone. Since not everybody is in love with 'touch' keyboards.

I suspect Steve is in love with touch for small devices though so I'd say there's zero chance of a physical kb. Most iPhone/Touch owners love the touch keyboard.

Trust me, stop worrying about a physical keyboard and trust that the touch keyboard will work. You won't know until you've used it for a bit but I can type very fast with mine now.

I didn't think that I'd like the touchscreen keyboard either, but I really like it now that I've gotten used to it.

I can see them putting 32GB in it, but always half of the Touch and significantly less than the Classic.

Half the Touch because there is room in the Touch for 2 pieces of flash memory and the iPhone only has room for 1 piece.

Significantly less than the Classic because the Classic has a hard drive which allows for bigger capacity.

As the prices of flash decrease, the iPhone and Touch capacities will increase.

I think as the iPhone progresses it may very well have the same storage capacity as the iPod Touch, just with an obvious initial price difference and running fee (contract phone and all).

I've settled on the idea of a 32gb iPhone. Even if 3G is released in June I'm just going to wait for more storage still.

The issue of storage capacity right now, is based upon the design differences of the two devices.

The iPhone has one memory chip where as the Touch has two. So if the same capacity chip is placed in both, the Touch will always be twice as big.

So when the iPhone his 32GB, the Touch will be 64GB, that is assuming that Apple puts in the same capacity memory chip in both devices.

32GB, but not 64GB.. Dont know why iPod touch is always one step ahead of iPhone memory wise.

It's threads like these that make me thank the baby Jesus that Jonathan Ive is Apple's senior vice president of design and not any of you lot.

I disagree about it being much ugglier... I think if the iphone continues to get more and more popular they will offer different styles and designs.. much like the two versions of the sidekick that exist etc.

In the mean time I'll stick with my HTC S710... sure it runs windows mobile but I have an SD slot, a qwerty, wifi, mms, video and a sweet design... just not "Apple sweet"...

Still a crappy phone with OS to match! iPhone is the sh*t! :D

It looks better than the grafted blackberry keyboard, but it still isn't attractive.

The only change I think they need to make is allow landscape lay out when texting. Small phone buttons ftl

Seriously, that would be the best. And for email too (it doesnt have that yet does it?).

I still agree with alot of the consensus going on here...I love the iPhone, the interface, the OS, the visual look of everything and the design itself, mostly the huge screen, and the camera (albeit no video)...

But those touchscreen controls can get tricky, and I "mis-touch" and screw up alot and make mistakes hitting the wrong thing, it's all too easy, and this could easily be fixed by something as simple and a flip-out physical keypad control mechanism. It's even worse when you are juggling things in the car, with one hand and you need to make a call, and you press the the wrong person. Horrible. an up/down and return button on a keypad could easily fix that. Yeah...it may make the iPhone larger and hamper design...Apple is all about making the prettiest, sleekest devices....but they also need to think about making them practical and focused on maximizing utility :)

I was fluent with iPhone within three days: Keyboard, menus etc etc..
Now im going to replace my BlackBerry (what i normally use for business calls, emails etc etc) with an 8gb iPhone for my 4.5gb mailbox and my whole address book, notes, business calls, while my 32gb iPhone will serve as my personal phone with my 20gb music collection and a few videos, and do my personal calls, superfast web browsing over 3G, and personal Emails.

A 3G iPhone with 32 Gigs would be awesome, but too expensive for Apple to make a quick sell. I think 3G is already going to incur a price hike of $100. So you're looking at a 16 Gig 3G iPhone for $599. That means a 32 Gig would cost $699 and I just can't see Apple selling that yet. Maybe when 8G falls off the back the 16 and 32 will be $499 and $599, respectively. Who knows, maybe 3G will mark the end of 8G model all together. Or, maybe the EDGE phones will drop $100 and still be sold at 8 and 16 Gig configurations. So here's my "educated guess":

Now:
EDGE
8G for $399
16G for $499

After 3G introduction:
EDGE
8G for $299
16G for $399

3G
16G for $499
32G for $599

I'm bemused that anyone could think adding 3G would increase the price to consumers. The tech is already a few years old, infact most phones around the iPhone price tag have HSDPA! If anything 2.5G would be cheaper and 3G would cost the same as the iPhone does now. 3G is coming to make it competative in Europe, not as a price bumping feature.

If a 3G iPhone cost more in Europe nobody would spend a premium just to get a faster (which is standard in all phones in the iPhone price range) internet connection. It's having a hard enough time here as it is...

i have a feeling they will run edge and 3g simultaneously..... they cant just phase out edge they are far many iphones to get rid of apart from us where they are almost gone.
