so overclocked, it can come close to the GT330m from the i7 15 inch? :D

( thought someone posted 6000 at 3Dmark with his MBP on this forum using the GT330M )

Not really, it's a night and day difference between 5340 3dm and 63xx (not OC'ed) ;) But it's halfway decent for casual gamers.

It comes close to the 9600M from last year's MBP. I must say that this is pretty impressive. Can't wait to receive mine, I'd probably do some benchmarks on the games I own.

Yes, it indeed is. I thought I had my expectations set too high after updating the driver to the 197.45 (desktop) because of some weird stuttering which occured to me in MW2 and PES2010. After rolling back to the original Bootcamp 196.xx driver game run "smooth as butter" again, to quote dear Mr. Jobs :D

I've even managed to overclock the GPU clock a little more, now at 687 Mhz!

Is there any need for me to OC my i7 or will it perfectly fine? (tf2 specifically).

In relation to the 330M, from another thread:

3dmark06 score: 6630

interesting, so the 330M runs circles around the 320M w/o OC, as expected.

4750 vs. 6630. Ratio: 0.71

when OC'ed, the 320M gains a little (clock: 631Mhz, Shader: 1309Mhz)

5340 vs. 6630 Ratio: 0.81

-- As I am currently using clock speeds of 706Mhz, I will have another go at 3dM06 tomorrow :)

------

The 330M should be easily OCable, too?!

EDIT: Note that the 15" and 17" MBPs have way faster CPUs, that has to account for something in 3dmark06.

Are you using windows 7 64bits?

I can't install it with the modified inf using the "having disk" method.

Can you post you .inf file?

Thanks.

Win7 x64, yes. Here's the INF, but mind you, I've had problems with the 197.45 driver...

To run games decently on FHD resolution, one need desktop HD4850 level GPU with 3DMark06 over 12k

Yes, apparently Apple has underclocked the GT330M to 500 mhz. So it can OC'ed faster for sure :cool:

Can I get a simple step by step how-to guide? I'm a part time n00b, so it would be great! I'm updating to the 13" this summer and would love to play a few games in bootcamp (unless steams comes sooner)...

Thanks in advance! I understand the risk, but it sounds like you've got it running pretty smooth, right? Any noticeable issues?

Could you please upload the nvao.inf configuration file for the 320M Windows 7 x64 driver that comes with the BootCamp installation found on the MBP recovery DVD? Mine won't be here for another 2 weeks and I'd like to compare it with the 197.45 configuration file you posted. You'll probably have to extract it from the NVidiaGraphics64 (or something similar) setup file located in the Drivers\NVidia folder of your Boot Camp directory, although you may be able to copy it directly if that folder isn't archived.

OP - I have the i7 2.66ghz 15 inch. What should I have lubbos on for fan settings when running games to be safe?

Min: 3800
Max. 6000

Threshold - depends, where you're CPUs temperature is headed. As I understand, the iSeries runs way hotter than my C2D. So just set it to a degree where your CPU normally idles.

Which kind of problems?

What's the best driver to change GPU settings then?

Thanks!

Stuttering in games, notably PES2010 and MW2 - not related to graphics power.
I've installed the nvidia system tools 6.06 and a registry hack which allowed for OCing. Don't know if the latter is mandatory, tbh.

So, OCing with ntools/nvidia system tools under 196.xx bootcamp driver

Sorry I didn't react before. Here's the nvao.inf

Note to others: if you attach the relevant strings below to a nv_disp.inf or nv4_disp.inf, you should be able to use any driver with your video card with the "have-disk" method through device manager.

nvao.inf relevant strings: (the first was mine..)

NVIDIA_DEV.08A0.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M"
NVIDIA_DEV.08A0.02 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "
NVIDIA_DEV.08A0.03 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "
NVIDIA_DEV.08A0.04 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "
NVIDIA_DEV.08A0.05 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "
NVIDIA_DEV.08A4.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "
NVIDIA_DEV.08A4.02 = "NVIDIA GeForce 320M "

And another update. Below I provide you with a few screenshots taken with Fraps.

Notes:

- HL2DM at 1920*1200 no AA, no AF, everything on high
- MW2 at 1280*800 and 1024*768 (will be stretched on my LED.CD)
- PES2010 at 1280*800 (smooth, FPS go down to about 30 in replays/zoomed situations like corners, freekicks - perfectly playable)

If you get it in summer, just try to play your games without OC'ing first. If you feel the need for a little more oomph, install system tools / ntools and the tools I've listed in my first post. Then you can create a profile that tells your GPU to overclock (e.g. when a certain game is started).

Disclaimer: You're doing this at your own risk. Bad settings may harm your hardware and you'll most certainly loose your warranty. (I don't think Apple would decline a warranty repair because of overclocking, but many people do!)
