Ok, Apple is now officially acknowledging that it's a greedy money hungry company. I'm sorry but if you pay 329 for a 16GB mini you've either got more money than common sense or are a complete moron. That's friggin rediculous. WOW!

As I understand it, the mini actually has one of the lowest margins from apple's line-up of products - so if you're unhappy about the price of the mini, you probably don't like many of apple's other products...

So you're telling me that Apple use to be greedier before?:p:D

$299 for 16GB WiFi only model and $399 for 16GB LTE model would've been much more attractive imo.

i think the price is fine. i Returned both the $199 kindle fire HD and $249 Nexus 7 after about 3 weeks with each device. Both lagged & have horrible OS's.

The Ipad mini isn't for everyone, but for people who want the smallest/lightest package (like us MBA 11" owners), the Ipad Mini is perfect.

and come on a $80 premium compared to their competitors is expected. THIS IS APPLE we're talking about. Their laptops are $100s higher than their competitors. I don't hear any complaining there.

My Lenovo X230 has 16 gb ram, 256 gb ssd, better processor, + 3 year accidental warranty for $1400. The same mba 13" would be $1950 with only 8gb ram. Why isn't anyone complaining about the $500-$600 premium Apple has on its computers?

I love Apple products (well except the Mini), but the Nexus 7 O/S is pretty amazing especially for the price. If they ever had a better app market for tablets...

You may not like Android, but to say it uses a horrible O/S is a huge mistake.

I actually love certain android products. I had a S3 and now have a Razr M for my work phone.

BUT Amazon ruined the Kindle with it's garbage overlay. The Nexus 7 is better but still not as stable as iOS. & of course as you mentioned the app market is pretty lacking.

Why don't you like the mini?

You're only upset because you secretly really want one ... :D

Personally, I don't care at all about prices of products I don't want ...

And anyone who's married will tell you, you only get meaningfully upset/hurt with someone you really love ... :)

(and yes, I am aware of the split infinitive in my post...)

Why don't you like the mini?

Im very concerned with the screen resolution as I could not use an iPad 2 due to the screen looking so pixelated to me.

I also dont like the A5 chip esepcially now that Apple has updated its iPad line quicker than 1 year. I expect similar upgrades over time which will make this product become outdated even quicker than normal.

Cheap small tablets (Google Nexus 7 etc.) are sold basically at cost price and money is made from download of content. Apple doesn't work like that and makes money on hardware+software therefore the higher price for iPad mini.

'Nuff said. If you don't like the price, just don't buy one, that's the benefit of capitalism. I know I'm very pleased with the iPad mini so far and expect to be using it a lot once mine arrives in a few weeks.

Almost as good as GPS on iPad Mini.

I'd rather have a rear camera on a device that size instead of GPS.

This is especially true when shooting video. Having a larger display while shooting video is handy because it allows you to hold the device farther from your face and still be able to see what you're shooting well.

But, the full sized iPad seems somewhat cumbersome when used this way.

I think the iPad mini might fit this function better than any other Apple device. This might become the niche that this device fits into the best.

My phone has GPS and more accessories are available to use the GPS on my phone more effectively while driving. Navigation using a phone sized display works well and this is even improved via the turn by turn navigation included in iOS 6.

I love it. I think it is comical how some people complain about the price and then still buy the thing. I would love if Apple just got wise and sold all 16 gig base models for the same price. iPad 3, 4, mini or whatever. Have them all be the same price, the higher price. It will still sell.

Just a little FYI, one thing I recommend buying Apple would be stock but many of you are already late to the game so it is not as cost effective for you right now. I got in at an okay time in 2006 so I was late myself.

they explained that actually WiFi does in some cases significantly improve GPS.

No, WiFi improves Location Services, not GPS.

----------

How's the rear camera on the Nexus 7?

What does the iPad-Wifi's lack of GPS have to do with the Nexus 7 lack of a rear camera?

I'm not arguing that everyone should go out and buy the Nexus 7 despite its lack of a rear camera.

You on the other hand seem to dismiss GPS capability in the choice of buying a WiFi-only tablet?

One has GPS, the other has a rear camera.

Different users have different needs.

The more effective usage of GPS for navigation while driving that is available on my phone negates the need for GPS in a wifi only tablet.

So, I would rather have a rear camera in the tablet that is easier to use than the one in my phone.

Especially, given the photo/video related apps that are available for iPad that are not available for the phone.

Are you using two devices for navigation at the same time? Or, are you using the less effective unassisted GPS in your tablet instead of the assisted GPS in your phone? Or, does your phone not have GPS?

$249 should have been the cost. $50 more than comp. $329 is a kick in the junk

Long time Mac-products user, but agree with others who have said that an iPad Mini Wi-Fi (no G3 or G4) starting at $249.00 would have been a better idea for Apple. In fact, with the state of the US economy, $200.00 would have been a better plan for this iPad. Yes, I understand that Apple would be losing some cash, but only momentarily since as Christmas nears what stops a lot of tablet buyers from buying iPads is its high price.

As it is now, it makes no sense to me to buy an iPad Mini since an iPad 2 costs just a little more.

I know! 329$ for an iPad Mini is a JOKE!!!!!!!

They should sell it for 499$!

We all know people would still buy it...

That doesnt mean they are zombie morons.............. oh wait... :D:D:D

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Apple could have easily put a GPS into the iPad Mini.

Except it is a hazard (not to mention illegal) in some states to operate anything with your hands except the vehicle while it is in motion. That includes picking up your phone to look at it.

Are you using two devices for navigation at the same time? Or, are you using the less effective unassisted GPS in your tablet instead of the assisted GPS in your phone? Or, does your phone not have GPS?

The GPS on my tablet is far more effective than the GPS in my phone due to the tablet's larger antenna.

Also, as I've stated TWICE already: the cellular radio in your phone simply assists in time to first fix. It does not improve the accuracy of your device.

Thanks for the stock tips bro.
any other wall street savy advice you like to bless us Commoners with?
how bout "you should have invested in Pumpkins before October"

I did the 12% Cashback through my Discover card.

$357 (after tax) - $42 (Cashback) = $315. So essentially paid $290 + tax. :)

Sorry to disappoint you, but it states on Discover's website

"Offer not valid on iPad mini and iPad with Retina Display"

So you got only 7%.

BTW, the iPad mini LTE model does have both.

Ever heard of a car kit? Don't have to pick it. Just program your trip before you start.

Pretty sure it is just as illegal to use your tablet while driving if being used inappropriately.

Also, as I've stated TWICE already: the cellular radio in your phone simply assists in time to first fix. It does not improve the accuracy of your device.

Assisted GPS reduces the TTFF from minutes to seconds. GPS signals are commonly dropped in city centres. Every time signal is dropped, this lag is introduced. Less lag equals more accurate.

Also, assisted GPS systems are inherently more sensitive in detecting GPS signals than standalone GPS units. This is due to the data provided via the cellular data.

What makes Assisted-GPS work so well is that the wireless network, using its own GPS receivers, as well as an estimate of the handset's location down to cell/sector, can predict with great accuracy the GPS signal the handset will receive and send that information to the handset. With this assistance the size of the search space is greatly reduced and the time-to-first-fix (TTFF) shortened from minutes to seconds. In addition, an A-GPS receiver in the handset can detect and demodulate signals that are order of magnitude weaker than those required by conventional GPS receivers.
