No one said your comment was wrong. I said anyone offering a simple yes or no deserves a side eye. As you realized, I also said "no", OLED is not "much better" than LCD. So we agree there. I simply provided further context to the poster to let them know it's pretty much a non-issue at this point, and also to give them some info on tech they were unfamiliar with. Not to say my way is better or worse than yours. Just different. Just so you know, the comment below is the type of comment that I was referencing in particular. It lends no value to the conversation.

Some people are irritated by simple truth.

If you're an Android fan, you will say yes. To everyone else, no.

Samsung OLED displays have stomped all over Apple LCD displays since the Galaxy S6. The performance gap has only gotten wider with time.

It's not an Android and iPhone thing either. In no way does the 7+ display match the S8+. It's not even close.

That's entirely true. Some people are irritated by the truth. I'm not, especially if by truth you mean your comment I referenced in my quote. There was nothing in your quote to cause irritation. I just used it as an example of commentary that doesn't further the discussion in a meaningful way. Just my opinion. Yours may differ.

In what regards, specifically?

I know the OLEDs get top marks, but "stomp all over" would imply they beat LCD's in iPhones on every measure. Source?

Let's hope Tim has a good handle on his supply chain this year.

In fairness, Tim can't control what supply manufacturers have available or the manufacturing process to provide the necessary parts for the iPhone. Yes, planning and time lining is a key role, but he can't control The manufacturing process from parts suppliers.

Apple already purchased 70,000,000 OLED panels from Samsung, which was reported supply manufactures were having difficulty meeting those needs at one point.

Also on a sidenote, Cook was also quoted stating how difficult it was to implement 3D Touch into the iPhone with having a smaller display. So I assume 3D Touch would resume with the iPhone 8.

Name the standard.

Brightness
Dimness
Resolution
PPI
Color reproduction
Saturation
Black levels
Contrast

There can't be any source for ******** statements. OLED is marginally better in some areas and worse in some other areas.
That's exactly what I was getting at. OLED and LCD are both, respectively, a massive spectrum of products.

I don't think anyone would seriously make the claim that this OLED display is better (for simply being OLED) than the LCD used in the iPhone:

You made my point. ;)

If the 10th anniversary phone is everything people here want it to be (bezel free, Touch ID & camera under the screen, new glass enclosure, wireless charging) there's absolutely no way it'll cost less than that.

If it is to be released at $1000, it'll likely be in tandem with the 7S at the standard price point. Then the new iPhone's cost will reduce over time as manufacturing & component costs get cheaper.

As cool as it sounds I'll probably go with the 7S plus and wait two years to upgrade to gain all those features at the lower price point.*

*DISCLAIMER
When the iPhone 8 is released and I post pictures here of me buying one, please hold all "liar liar pants on fire" comments to a minimum.

When has APPLE ever reduce the price of any of it's iPhones? Yea, maybe when the next iPhone comes out. But you won't see APPLE ever lower the price of the iPhone 8 and it's successors. If anything, we will watch the price go up and up and up, as we have started to see since the iPhone 6.

It's a mental thing. It's the reason a retailer sells something for $9.99, $99.99 or $999.99 instead of $10, $100 or $1000 outright. When most people see a price like $9.99 they don't think "it's $10 bucks" they thinks "it's less than $10 bucks" and apparently that makes most people more willing to buy it. It's common enough that it's kind of marketing 101 at this point.

Do you really think that's still the case nowadays, I think people aren't that stupid anymore and don't fall for this "kind of marketing 101".
9.99-99.99-999 is so what.... yesteryear.

Example, here you can buy 3 small cases of beer for €10 instead of €9.99 or a big case (Different brand) for €10.70 instead of € 10.99.

Why are people so hyped up about the $1,000 price?

The iPhone 7 Plus 256gb costs $969 right now. $1,000 is only $40 more.

Before, as time went by, you got more base storage for the same price, more ram for the same price, better tech for the same base price. Now, Apple is going to be holding back new tech for the base price model, keeping base storage the same for longer on the $650 model because all the best stuff will be saved for the $1000 model.

Never under estimate the stupidity of the average consumer. A couple of pennies can buy a lot of rationalization.

As someone who has only ever owned iPhones, is OLED really that much better than LCD?
You've gotten some good answers. I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus and a Galaxy S8+. And an S7. With the S7, I can tell that if my Galaxy S8+ had a flat display instead of that gimmicky curved edge, it would kick serious butt. I can adjust the colors on my S8+ to my preferences. Blacks are indeed perfect. Whites can vary in quality and I actually prefer the look of my iPhone 7 Plus display for whites.

With the edge you get some refraction going on that gives a bit of a color cast to the edge of the display. It is sort of like looking at a fluorescent light tube. It takes a bit of getting used to to "unsee" it. So I am very happy for you all that rumors are pointing to Apple going with flat displays. That is very smart of Apple if it is true. Then you will get a nice crisp display with vivid colors and a pleasing resolution that will also use battery more conservatively than what you are used to. If iOS 11 ends up providing a dark mode somehow, you will experience additional battery savings because pure blacks means the pixel is actually powered off. And being flat, there will be no odd refractive tricks of light to get used to on the edges.

If it's true about the flat display, I likely will pick up the "S" version of the new iPhone in 2018. I have no plans on getting one this year because I've decided to pursue the Android upgrade path for now and see what the Note 8 and Pixel 2 have to offer. My IPhone SE and 7 Plus will more than suffice for the rest of 2017 and most of 2018 before I want to upgrade on the iPhone path again.

They lower the cost on this year's model when next year's model comes out.

So you are telling me it might cost above the other models because it will get all those special features!

No doubt Apple will make a FAT Profit from this iPhone 8. So what you have decided? Are you buying it or not? What will be your favorite feature for iPhone 8?

Edit :- @keysofanxiety please responding to this post

I'm gonna stick with my iPhone 6 I've had since launch day until I'm stupid frustrated with it. And It's still going strong. So... I think I'll see if I can hold out another 2 years. Maybe when iPhone 9 comes out.
