3D touch sounds interesting, but I feel like my Note 3 and Shield Tablet already function the same way by pressing and holding on messages, links, screens, etc. (One of my favorite Android features.) Am I wrong for thinking this is apples first gimmick?

Before you go saying I'm an android fan, note that I have an iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 for my personal phones and I also use an iPad mini and I only own Mac computers. My android devices are for work.

I don't think samsung has the capability to copy this time, at least not to the Apple polished level. Maybe they'll just quickly throw together something that's "similar" but a million mile behind.

It never ceases to amaze me. Apple "borrowed" designs from Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, Roku and even Nintendo today, and you guys keep bitching that Samsung will copy the one thing that was even somewhat original today. And I still am not sure how it will function any differently than a long touch.

I think 'force touch' was always a bit of a poor choice of name with a rather negative tone to it if you see what I am getting at...

Agreed. Think of them demoing the feature to a middle-aged mom in one of their stores. 3D touch is better on many fronts. They need to retroactively rename it on the other products too.

Yes. Apple must have gotten feedback on the name "force touch" and finally agreed that it was not the best thing to call it.

I'm going to take a guess here and say we won't be hearing about "force touch" anymore except on the mac's it's already on.

Does force touch on the Mac have different levels of pressure sensitivity?

I find the force touch as implemented on the Apple Watch is natural and the response feels way more immediate vs. a press and hold (and hold ...) especially as combined with haptic feedback.

I imagine the iPhone version will be even more responsive - keep in mind, it's designed to continue "deeper" into an event, where the interim state isn't for a specific time, you can hold the peek for a second or for 20 seconds, until you release back up, or press harder to move into a more detailed / interactive presentment of the content.

Well, Apple needed a good feature to sell people on buying another iPhone. Most people I know w/ the 6 or 6+ are not moving over. I am one of the only few doing so from the 6+ to the 6S+. I look forward to it. On the fence regarding buying an Apple Watch. I think it looks cool, but not that "killer" feature I was expecting. It was a safe upgrade. Now, I want to know the RAM.

I have an iPhone 5 and i'm not 100% convinced I want to drop the mega bucks for these new iPhones. 3D touch, almost sounds like a Samsung gimic feature, is it really something you can't live without? Does it really add that much more quality? Does it really improve the user experience that much more compared to how we use our iPhones today? Think about it, I'm not sure it does overall.

As far as RAM, I'm sure if the phone had more than one gig Apple would have been more than eager to boast about it in the keynote, which they didn't, so I'll assume it doesn't.

How will anyone know what they can and can't "3D Touch?" Will every app have to come with a manual that we read ahead of time? Are we supposed to 3D Touch everything we see to try to figure it out with every app?

Don't you read the descriptions of an app before you download them? I'm sure it will tell you in there if the app uses the feature or not. Use your head!

Right - like the Apple Pencil. Oh wait....

Bad example - comparing the  Pencil to the S-Pen is ludicrous.

If anything, compare it to the numerous Bluetooth styli on the market. Although it's undoubtedly more polished and much higher quality.

I find it funny, this is usually the way things go....

Pre keynote: "Damn, that Surface looks nice with its keyboard and pen. Why doesn't Apple step up its game?"

Keynote: "Here's a higher quality keyboard and stylus"

Post Keynote: "Screw Apple! What a disappointment, all they did was copy!"

Again feature vs implementation. Apple doesn't generally invent features - they invent technologies to improve features and offer their own unique, quality implementations to create a better user experience. Though I would argue, 3D Touch is a new feature that will change the way people interact with their devices.

I totally agree with you. Considering the price, the new features are not worth it. They are not improvements, they are just progressions. Valuable features would have been better battery life and more storage space.

Wait, better battery life is a progression.....

3D Touch is a brand new feature. I get not seeing the utility in your own life just yet, but give me a break. It's a completely new way to interact with your device.

Apple never advertise the RAM amount. They didn't even mention 1GB before.
It's only after the release we found out.

You just have missed my posts during the keynote...
