Sounds like they couldn't build 3D touch on a larger display. That's a bummer.

Will try Quick Actions on iOS 13 as soon as I have Catalina installed and can upgrade my devices

wait, so they will remove 3d touch on a software level, so even if i hold on to my xs, i will lose 3d touch if i install ios 13?!

I don't think Apple would disable 3D touch on existing devices or even merge the function with long press. I do suspect it will slowly go away slowly over time though.

So how will be the 3D touch used on devices which have it? I hope it stays the same for us . I dont want to use longpress when my phone is capable of 3D touch

It's a shame. 3D Touch is an amazing feature. The problem is it was hamstrung by the existence of long press, which wouldn't have been an issue if 3D Touch had been there in the first iPhone.

Unfortunate, but I understand. With the deletion of the 3D Touch module, hopefully this will allow for more internal battery space. That would be the only ‘Trade-off’ that would make this a somewhat better situation.

No I assume 3D touch will work the same for all devices with supported hardware until it dies out with the newer iPhones.
I do wonder if it will stick around on Apple Watch, I hope so since it's actually useful on there

A layer of unintuitive UX stripped out of iOS is a good thing to me. If it's a stepping stone to the return of Touch ID, even better.

Not even close. The deletion of 3D Touch isn’t indicative of Touch ID returning or exclusive, not when 3D Touch _and_ Touch ID already co-existed in previous Gen iPhones.

I will not notice. Never used 3d touch since the intro. Tried it and understood it adds nothing. I am sure I am not going to use the taptic touch either. So all the same to me:) I know, I am in the minority. I never set up face id on my Xs.

I'm sorry for people who liked and used this feature, it sucks when a feature you like is taken away.

I never had it in a device I owned, so I'll never miss it, and it never seemed like all that much better than just long-pressing. I mean I guess I can see how it could be a little better and faster, but not by much. In fact it seemed like something I'd get annoyed by if I did accidentally, but like I say I never really used it day-to-day.

Haptic is NOT a sufficient replacement for 3D touch, because it has no scalar pressure sensitivity.
Using ArtStudio, Procreate Pocket or SketchBook? start saying your goodbyes to dynamic brush width.
All of which suck, are no justification for keeping it, are better with Apple Pencil, and will be forgotten instantly.

This is why 3D Touch is going away. There has been no meaningful application of the pressure sensitivity. Everything people actually do with 3D Touch can be accomplished with long press. It has had years since its debut on the iPhone 6s to amount to something. It hasn't.

No, that isn't what it sounds like. They've found out after 5+ years that the extra hardware is completely wasted and unused, and all of the features in popular use are easily replaced by long press / haptic touch.

Absolutely not. The problem is that it never became more useful than long press. It had the potential to, but the hardware for pressure sensitivity, after 5 long years, was not adopted by anything worth keeping.
