Does anybody else beside me think the launch titles suck?

I was gonna pre-order the 3DS but I don't like any of the games. I'd be buying some random game just to try out a $250 piece of hardware.

Yes... They do.

If it wasn't for the fact that the store is offering a trade up policy for my dsi xl for €110 as opposed to €260 then I would not be getting one at this time.

But with the reduction in price / trade up for me it makes better sense to get one now whilst this offer is open than wait 6 mnths for more games and have to pay full price for the 3ds hardware.

I'm sort of hoping lego star wars to be fun....I really like the first one, the 2nd was ok....I played the demo for this new one on the PS3 and was a little worried, but I'll most likely go for it.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan but I'll be skipping out on the launch of the 3DS.

As mentioned on this thread, I do agree the launch titles suck.

Next gen pricing also sucks. I'm not going to dish out $250 for a handheld system, sorry. Same thing with software pricing.

I'm sure the 3D effect is awesome, but for some games, like SFIV and Rayman, I'd rather have these on my iPhone for the price of 0.99 to 4.99, despite weaker graphics and lack of 3D. An increase of 800 to 4000% pricing is just ridiculous to me. Plus, i'd rather have games digitally than worry about carrying, storing, (and possibly losing) game cards.

I've got a "Cosmos Black" 3DS on preorder.

Somehow managed to bust the cartridge slot on my XL, sadly (cartridges fall out/move around). I thought, rather than paying £140-170 for a new XL (would've had a yellow one), I'll use some left over gift vouchers, trade the XL in (as damaged, obviously), so it now works out that I'm getting a 3DS for just over £90. Can't complain :)

I'm not too bothered about the auto-stereoscopy "3D" feature to be honest (the demo unit in Game gave me a headache after about 10 minutes anyway, thanks to my illnesses  ), but I do like the look of the augmented reality stuff, so I'm a little excited! Plus it means I can play Pokémon again!

3DS game prices are the same as DS prices in the UK. £29. I imagine they'll drop to £25 in some shops after the launch period.
Surprised to see the console price plummet so much on Amazon too. £185! Cheaper than a PSP Go. I must say it's tempting but yeah, unless anything changes with the launch lineup I'll just wait till Zelda hits.

Ocarina of Time also has the Master Quest too, so, w00t!

I really, really wanna try this thing out. I suspect the price will be prohibitive for me, i just cant see myself spending that sort of money on such a small thing.

Anyone actually seen one?

Gamestop said they'll have a demo kiosk the day after the launch...

Yep, tried one out yesterday, local store had a demo unit. The build quality is pretty good, although it looks very plastic and childlike compared to the iPhone/iPod Touch/NGP that are much more 'adult'.

I couldn't see the 3D as expected (vision problems in one eye), but the other half wasn't overly impressed. The re-focusing needed to go from the bottom screen to the top is just tiring on the eyes, and you really do have to hold the 3DS at a specific angle to get the effect.

The augmented reality was pretty cool (even without 3D) though, but certainly not enough to sell me a console.

Going to NYC for the launch party! My friend reserved me a black 3DS at a gamestop near his college(and a blue one for himself), but after we pick that up, we're going to Nintendo World Store for the launch party(hopefully it will still be bouncing after we pick up our 3DS elsewhere. I'm planning to camp out so my friend and I can get it quickly and move to Nintendo World Store

Yeah. A while ago I played with a Japanese import for a bit, no actual 3DS cart games just fiddling around with the built in one and the menu. Just played a UK one yesterday (Ridge Racer). I must say it's not only the best version of Ridge Racer I've played but the 3D effect was tremendous. Or maybe that game amplifies it a bit, but it was really quite deep.
The girlfriend was planning on going into HMV to buy a 360. That's when we were offered to try out a few games. Walked out with a 3DS preorder instead!

We're smitten.

Ha, ha - Nintendo Launch Party Hopping...

Have fun! ;)

There seems to be a lot of DRAMAZ™ on the Amazon UK 3DS discussions page about them not being shipped yet... I can understand if it was this time tomorrow and they hadn't shipped, but it doesn't come out until Friday, there's still time! if it comes to it, HMV and Play.com both have the consoles in stock.

Thing is, I have really bad anxiety and although I had a panicky day today, I'm more anticipating getting it than I am anxious about not getting the console on launch day... but I guess that's what the pills are for :D ;)

What is pissing me off at this stage is not that the console launches tomorrow or fears over shortages etc, it's the fact that 95% of the launch titles haven't even made it to review which is never a good sign.

I suspect we are going to see a lot of turkeys tomorrow.

I've seen a few reviews, ONM gave everything like 8 or 9 out of 10 (no surprises there) and everyone else gave everything 6 out of 10 at most. Pilotwings is the most disappointing, as apparently it's less than an hour long...

I see that Joystiq and Gamespot and a few other sites (IGN) are starting to put reviews up too, but I'm not that interested in the launch titles! I want to get back to Okamiden and Pokémon White!

I think there's plenty of consoles to go around, my order is at "dispatching soon" on Amazon, and other people already have theirs!

The sad part apparently is that although Nintendo hope for a big success they won't launch their console with any special games released by them. Apparently they will hope 3d parties will launch and promote the console with their apps.

The fact NO site has seemingly reviewed any of UBI's release is very suspicious about their quality.

Is there a review Embargo in place I wonder?

I had a go on Pilotwings earlier in the week at my local GAME. I have to say that the 3D effect is a quite strange. Once you're holding it in the perfect position with the depth slider set just below full, the 3D effect is quite impressive; it really did look like the plane was in front of the screen flying into it.

I started off with the slider set to zero and increased the depth slowly. It felt really odd to begin with and looked blurry, but once you're concentrating on it then the 3D effect is quite apparent. However, I found that if I looked away for a second my eyes had to refocus which felt quite strange. This is going to be a problem with games where you're constantly having to change your focus between the two screens.

Overall, my eyes felt strained after only 5 - 10 minutes of playing. I'd like to have a longer go to see if you get used to it, but at the moment I'm not impressed. If your eyes can cope with it, then the 3D effect is quite impressive and I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with it. I certainly wouldn't be letting kids under 10 near it even though Nintendo say 7+.

:apple:

Waiting excitedly for mine to arrive :)

Curse the parcel deliveries to come later than the regular post!

Was going to pick mine up this morning, however I have had to postpone collecting it as I have to pick my iPad 2 this evening so i'll collect my 3DS at same time :)

:D got mine! It's MUCH better than I was expecting, but the auto-stereoscopy does my head in after only a few minutes :( It's really, really impressive though, you have to see it in person!

Here's a quick pic ;) fingerprints already!

Edit! Found the Mii creator QR Code generator, so anyone can add my Mii :D
