Today i went to the apple store and had an apointment with the genius bar... i told the genius about my phone having cracks, and he looked at it but kept on saying that he couldnt see any cracks. he even took out a magnifying glass thing and couldnt see it.(i personaly couldnt see it too with the magnifine glass but it was really easy to see under regular light) the guy offered me a phone that came out of a white box, and i examined it.. and it also had cracks on it. I asked if he could open another one, but he said that they cant go through a whole inventory of phones... so i decided to just keep my phone for now, and try again sometime else. He said that anything that is mass produced will have some minor cosmetic problems, and its really hard to find a perfect phone... I also asked the genius if hes seen other phones crack, and he says hes only seen some that are right out of the box, and that have cracks that acually split the plastic. Another thing he mentioned was that if it was another different genius, they might have said that its not a problem at all and theres nothing wrong with my phone... so i was not as lucky as most of you guys that got to exchange your phones.. but ill try again.. but i dont know when i have to time. ill be sure to update you guys on it.

wow mine has some as well

2 radiating (very light cracks) from the on/off switch and then one on the curve of the top right corner (short but can feel it with fingernail)

1) will apple replace it? i ask as i am so damn careful with this phone, no drops, no nothing. this is a manufacturing defect right? it should be

2) can i take it to an att store instead of apple store for replacement? att is sooooo much closer than apple

3) can i swap my white for a 16gig black? as far as i know, only whites have this prob

ive since noticed more near my headphone port and along the side

im really pissed

for those of you who have cracks right now, who's to say your next ones won't have them either? and, since most replacements now are refurbs, they probably may have cracks already on them and possibly other problems. you can't keep swapping them forever, right?

Black i phones have cracks just as well..
well thstas just peachy lol

i know, otherwise my phone is perfect. just not a fan of a cracking case. why is it so hard apple to make a non cracking case?

I wish Apple did something to rectify this problem because I agree that you cant keep exchanging phones. It is annoying though when you notice a crack on your phone knowing you did nothing to cause it.

Obviously this is an example of a design defect, apple has a serious problem with their plastics. My 2008 Macbook and iPhone 3g both have cracks...it is a serious problem.

My replacement iPhone already has a crack in it and ive used it for less than an hour since my original return. I wonder if they will refund my money and I can go back to my original iPhone? This is VERY disappointing.

Im happy to report that my new white iphone has no cracks and no dead pixels.

Also my 2006 white macbook has no cracks whatsoever.

Well, you can add me to the list of white iPhone 3Gs with cracks. :-( Well, just one crack but it's a pretty big one. It's just so ironic because I've had so many light leak problems and finally got a 3G that was "perfect" and now it cracks.

Grrrr.....

Hi,

I'm the last Iphone user affected by the cracks!

Even worst, Vodafone in Portugal doesn't apply the warranty on this!

Says that Apple doesn't recognize this as a defect, but as bad usage!
THIS PHONE NEVER FELL! IT IS TREATED LIKE A BABY!

How to proceed, any ideas? What to do?

Apple in Portugal doesn't exist! :S It doesn't do anything for me!
Like it is in the Portuguese support in the Apple page, Vodafone is the owner of this, and even when calling to the phone line of apple they don't to anything... only opens complaints! :S
How to contact international instances? How to followup this with someone that can do anything?

I'm really stressed with all this! I'm feelling robbed!

This phone is 1,5months old!

Cracks on iPhone..? It is a myth. Very low count of messages on this board just prove the point - at least half is posted by the same users.
Sure, there are some faulty (cracked) iPhones out there, but the number is really insignificant. I had my iPhone replaced for cracks 5 weeks ago and the replacement iPhone is absolutely SPOTLESS...

How did you get a replacement? What did you do?

I've had my phone since the Saturday of 3g launch weekend here in the US. I now have cracks extending from both corners of the docking base.

I have an appointment with a genius tomorrow we'll see how it goes:(

Went to the apple store today and they replaced the phone with no issues. One of the genius even admitted that another genius at the store had cracks develop in his phone.

Can anyone who has had their phone replaced due to cracking let us all know whether the replacement phone has developed any cracks?

i've seen replacement phones recently that were clearly refurbs and they even had cracks already in them. there's nothing that would stop replacements from developing cracks that wouldn't stop normal phones.

this has happened to a lot of white ones, the black ones are a little rarer, maybe the white color pigment weakened the torsion strength of the housing
