If this is a new model...

How different would this model have to be for them to consider it a new iPhone? I'm curious exactly what is in Apple's 'exclusive' contract with AT&T. If it is only for the hardware version 1.0, could they potentially have version 2 run on any other networks?

I realize that the they would be OK with that, but I'm with T-mobile and I would love to stay with if they offered iPhones. If that were the case, that would be 10 million sold easy.

No, this is not going to be on Tmobile. You think ATT was dumb enough to sign a 5 year contract for a single physical phone? Cmon!

Well two many things too many possibilities!!

June, WWDC is a sureshot probability but two facts really oppose it:

1. If it's true, then 10mn iPhones is a big quantity to be ordered even while WWDC is as far as June (in contrast Apple hasnt ordered even 6mn 2G iPhones, they are already drying up)

2. The iPhones are really drying up, especially the 16GB one (no sense. If Apple is planning to bump capacities, the 8Gb should be dry, not 16). And this guarantees us one thing ie: somethings gonna happen before June!!!

Inventory is low...

I just came back from the Apple Store in Salem NH. They have 0 iPhones. The salesperson was shocked at that because they have a hard time keeping 16 GB in stock but always have 8 GB in stock.

June for Sure!!!!!

I just watched the iPhone SDK event again and noticed somethings you may all find interesting:

1. Steve Jobs says that the App Store is going to be added to all iPhones and that that is how developers will be able to reach all iPhone users. - Why not simply say that they are distributing the App Store with the 2.0 firmware and that all users can download it? The way Steve Jobs says it it sounds like there will be more than one iPhone version when the App Store is launched.

2. Steve Jobs says that apps can be downloaded via "wireless download" from either "cell network or WiFi". - Why not say that the apps can be downloaded with EDGE or WiFi? Yes he doesn't want to remind people of the lack of 3G but still it is a little weird to hear him say it this way. Also why can you download apps via the "cell network" and not songs? I think this is because it will also support 3G.

I think that the reason they gave the Music Store and new icon (besides to distinguish it from the App Store) was that you may be able to now also download songs via the "call network" (3G). Is this a bit of a long shot?

Think about it... The only other icon they changed was the Calculator app's icon and that is because they changed the app...

I called around and my local Apple store is hes no iPhones...

The fact that they are running out of stock makes me think they temporarily sent a large piece of their supply to Ireland and Austria to support the hype there due to the lanuch. Although I will say that the stock being this low (even on their website - 5-7 days till the iPhone ships) leads me to think that they are in fact prepping a new iPhone 3G.

What do you guys think?

Let me know what you think of all this...

P.S. Diggnation Baby... You Are Awesome Kevin :) and Alex :)

I agree. 10 million off the bat is like producing 10 million brand new never tested airplanes and expecting them all to work when needed.

But remember, they may order 10 mil but this is more like an open purchase order. They don't just build 10 mil then deliver all at once. It is more like 200k per week till they are told to wait (if they need to make a design change or adjust the delivery quantity).

Ha ha ha - you argued for AND against your own position in one short statement!

We all have a sense of what we want for how much money. It's got nothing to do with any ******** macho idea of 'manning up'... otherwise [by your own argument], you only stopped being a ***** when Apple dropped the price!

Pesonally, having bought the second PowerBook G4 Ti [550MHz], and the first MacBook Pro [1.83GHz], I've decided that the first generation Macs are always improved upon by more than any benefit lost by not being an early adapter.

This is especially true when you take into account the lack of early issues with Rev2 models and the fact that prices always either stay the same or drop over the same period, and the spec always improves, sometimes on several levels.

Well you can wait forever, always in hopes of the next big thing around the corner...

...or you can man up and get the product and when it comes time to upgrade or replace you will have been happy the whole time.

I for one, am glad to have purchased the iPhone (right after price drop) and I would have been miserable sitting around with my old motorola reading forums month after month.

How did you conclude that first generation macs are ALWAYS improved more than the benefit lost not being an early adapter upon just from your comparison of two completely different models? Some users need the technology when they need it not when apple wants to give it to them and besides the second the next iPhone comes out, there will be lists of fixes for the next model. Just buy it when YOU need it.

well im not sure what you mean by using the word NEED because you could want a lot of things but not need them this is what usually happens to me when i buy things from apple.

for example right now i WANT a computer but i dont no if i should wait for apple to give me an update or not wait and just buy it.

I understand what you are trying to say and i just wanted some advice on if i should wait for an update before i buy an imac or should i buy it now?

thanks:)

Well if you ask me, it depends on your condition! If you totally have the budget fixed and are in full mood (like I am for an iPhone), then buy it (like I am going to buy an iPhone).

Otherwise, its quite a widespread news that intel is stopping the production of meroms and soon Apple will be forced to replace them with penryns like they did with the macbook!

Maybe Apple is sending the EDGE-Phones back to Shanghai to convert them into 3G phones?
Just my 2 cents. :D

Thanx fo the advice

yeh i have the budget and im in the mood but i think i will wait for a month at the least cause i dont want to spend all that money and then find out that there is a new one available for the price i paid.

An im not that desperate to get one
i think my macbook will do just fine until they decide to update the imacs.
I think it might be next week cause My theory is that Apple made all of march about the iphone SDK. If you have noticed there were no updates(besides software updates) all month!! no tuesday special. SO now that march is over i think they will announce something next week April 1st(happens to be a tuesday:))
If nothing happens then i think ill get the current imac:apple:

Well in Asia and here in Europe 3G is far more widespread than EDGE. In the UK, O2 pretty much skipped EDGE and went straight to 3G as they invested billions (literally silly money) in the licenses to use the airwaves.

If o2 skipped EDGE and went straight to 3G they sure didn't tell anyone! My 3G enabled phone has never accessed o2's 3G network- not even sure they ever turned it on.

The dotcom bubble saw the UK mobile operators shelling out over £20 Billion on 3G licences and then Billions in creating the new 3G networks, only to witness the dotcom crash just a few short years later. The networks, subsequently, wrote off the Billions invested as the 3G dream failed miserably.

It's only in the last couple of years, with the advent of 3.5G (HSDPA) and the UK network's repositioning of the technology, that finally the technology is taking off.

And this brings me to my point- where is o2 in all this?? The other 4 major networks all have HSDPA modems for mobile broadband access and are aggressively competing in offering people a real alternative to fixed line broadband access and yet o2 are nowhere to be seen- this doesn't bode well for the upcoming 3G iPhone.

Vodafone ,in London and Airports, have fixed line rivalling speeds of 7.2mbps on their 3G network. Three and T-Mobile joined forces to share their 3G Network masts and I get speeds of 2mbps+ on Three's mobile broadband.

o2 seem to be the only major network not investing in upgrading their network, or actually using the dammned thing- I'll buy a 3G iPhone and unlock it to another network the second it's cracked

Million Dollar question :p do i go to an o2 store next week n buy an iphone or not :p

I suggest you do!

Sell it off when a 3G comes up. Im sure you'll find plenty of iphone starved international geeks!

And then, a 3G iPhone, as most predict, might only come by WWDC.
