All jobs is going to show is a faster tower, a quad athlon!

I think that would be a stupid move. Steve is smart enough to know (and yes for sure he read those rumor forums as well) that we expect something spectacular this time. He won't let us down ;) The mini super laptop or something else surprising will come! He will use the "one more thing" trick again! :D I feel it!

With kind regards,
Bas

word. and ya, many people probably think that he doesnt read forums but im sure he does. heck, he probably reads macrumors all the time as they are most imformative and very popular.

All I want is a portable, rugged laptop. I recently crushed my MBP, and have been looking for a replacement that will be small, but enough for my needs. I personally dislike the macbooks very much, and I have actually been looking into buying a 12 inch powerbook! If this rumor is true, it will be an end to all of my computer problems. I am hoping for the new (12 inch or 13.3 inch screen, I don't care) small MBP. Bring it on, Steve.

1gb for <$7 is fairly cheap, all the better that it's reusable, more durable, and convenient.

It's cause they're not the favored method of file transfer anymore. In an ultraportable, it is almost illogical because no matter what Apple does, they can't make the stupid thing take up absolutely no space. It HAS to take up space, and space is of the utmost importance. Even if it's a slim tiny ridiculous optical drive, that TINY space could have been room for something more useful. There is no way on earth you could convince anyone otherwise. Period.

I don't debate the occasional usefulness of CDs. And in your situation, sounds like there isn't much else that would work as well. But you're just making flimsy excuses as to why an optical drive should be in an ultraportable when it sounds like there are ways that would satisfy your problem without angering the majority of people who probably do not want one built-in.

As I said, the $7 per flash drive adds up when you have to purchase large quantities of them. I would not consider them a replacement for a CD until they reach...say 99 cents for a 1GB model. Then, I can see more people giving them away like a CD.

I wouldn't mind having a bay for the optical drive as an option as someone suggested earlier in the thread. Maybe have a regular notebook hard drive and extra battery in its place if Apple is really going with a 32GB SSD drive. I think that would settle this for both of us. ;)

1. No, more like I'm still in tune with and think about the general public and not just with the young, rich, tech-savvy people.
<snip>
As I said, not everyone will allow non-employees into their networks. They usually configure their machines for their networks.

As I said, one flash drive is cheap, but not when you start buying 10+. It adds up.

First of all, you just need one. Give it to your customers at the end of your presentation, and they can mount the drive and copy the file in a minute or two, and give it back. Faster than it takes to burn a CD. Not to mention, you'd be REUSING a single drive and not wasting time money and resources on a non-reusable CD that eventually gets thrown out.

I don't know where this "young and rich" stuff is coming in. USB flash drives are cheap. Heck I saw 4gb for $17 on Black Friday. I also see lots of people giving away lower capacity thumb drives (1GB and lower) with their company logos. Buy a box of them and silk screen them with your business logo and contact info, and you've got a great marketing tool.

If you're so worried about this being so expensive, perhaps it's time to ditch the powerbook and invest in an easel, flip book, and markers.

Maybe Jobs will release a laptop to go with the mac mini as the macbook goes with the imac & the macbook pro goes with the mac pro?
it would be cool if they did this.:)

How much is "Large Quantities"?

I do have a flash drive FOR MYSELF. It's fine to share if I'm in an office, but I don't always go to offices. Halls, clubhouses, meeting rooms in public facilities sometimes do not have computers available to use. (If they do, they tend to be crappy donated ancient Windows 95 machines or something) So again, I would have to give something out to them. The cheapest usable, most widely-available format for this is...the CD.

I think you're getting a little carried away with the easel, etc.

HP Pavilion tx1000z series (link)
I just want an apple version of the HP Pavilion tx1000z series...
12" screen able to twist..touch screen..
if it wasn't for the fact that it comes with windows i'd want to buy it
imagine something like the macbook operating like that...

I would hate that, why do you need a touch screen and a keyboard! one or the other, and I would choose keyboard unless you really needed to save space like a pocket device (iPhone & iPod Touch)

I really hope that Apple update the current iPhone rather than replacing it with a new model. Right now the iPhone is an over priced box of pretty tricks. If they put 3G, a decent camera and flash support in Safari I'd probably buy it. Will probably go with the LG Viewty instead for now which, of course, is free.

$1500....pass.

we cant really judge it yet bc what if it was 1500 and had touch screen and 64gb flash or so, and ultra portable that wouldnt be too bad... lets not judge quite yet because we know nothing about it.:p

Would an ultra-compact design lend itself to running an external monitor? It would be nice to be able to do stuff on the big screen as well.

Take it for what it's worth, but Jim Goldman just reported it could be on shelves by the end of May. Also mentioned ipod Touch production is being increased to meet demand, and that the ultra-portable macbooks will be introduced at Macworld.

Go easy on me- this is my first post.

This is great news, Apple just never stops with the innovation. :D A 3G iPhone with a official SDK and hopefully by then some good official applications will be a very tempting purchase for me (hmm iPhone or Android powered phone?). I'll be holding off on the ultraslim macbook however until I find out exactly how much space the flash storage provides, so far flash storage hasn't really gotten anywhere near the amount of storage traditional hard drives can provide...

So heres a question. I was under the impression that the reason that apple chose to announce the existence of the iphone in Jan of '06 was because it was going to have to go through the FCC and its existence would have been exposed during that time. So if apple is planning on releasing a new 3g iphone, wont it also have to make its way through the FCC? Is it possible that apple will announce the existence of a new phone months before it is released in order to maximize the publicity like they did for the first version?

3G iPhone update/refresh is expected, according to a Japanese (works at NTT DoCoMo) source of mine

3G iPhone update/refresh is expected, according to a Japanese (works at NTT DoCoMo) source of mine

AT&T and DoCoMo were working on joint development of 3G services a few years back. There was also a plan (did it ever go through?) to launch DoCoMo's iMode technology on AT&T's network in the early 2000s.

Any idea if anything came out of any of this? And if so, might it mean a dual Japanese and US 3G iPhone launch?

it strange that little Norway have 3G and not USA i think. i am waiting for a 3G iPhone becouse i need 3G to videocalls and MMS.

in Norway its almost just 3G phones now.

This hasn't really been mentioned - it's simple, but I would LOVE if Apple upped the capacity of the Touch. I've been iPodless for about 2 years (various reasons) - I've been waiting for the Touch to reach at least 30GB before I pick it up. :D
