I actually know the owner of the XSKN company. His name is Lajo, and he made millions on iPod accessories back in the days of the 1st and 2nd generation iPods. Apple legal won't be able to lay a finger on him, as he's stationed entirely in the PRC (China).

Heh. At one point he would browse around the iLounge forums, looking for ideas and opinions on what people wanted from cases. He was banned from the forums though because of self promotion. This was all back in the day.

This is a fake.

Anyone especially a case manufacture could mock up some cases based on rumours and reported leak shots.

Why??? Well how many million hits has their website got today.

Has anyone tried to order one???

If this company are in PRC and apple has no clout over them does anyone think apple would send them (and they sound quite shonky too) a reference design to make a case off and just hope they are nice guys and don't show anyone???

Fake but clever way to get people to your web site and get your name known.

I looked at their site and saw the supposed 3G case then I clicked a link and had server busy errors then the site came back but there was an existing iphone case in its place?? Now their site is always showing server busy. Iv'e seen this in 100's of online news papers, blogs so its amazing to think what traffic they are getting.

How to get people to go to your site- have a rumor about the 3g iphone and watch them come.

huh? an illusion that it's flat?
The side on view clearly shows that the front and back run parallel, with curved edges.
Yes, because from the side you can only see that the middle/spine of the case is flat, even though it suggests that the majority of the back might be flat. This is because in the top view, we can see that it is curved significantly with only the spine of the case laying flat.

edit: For example, take a toilet paper roll, lay it flat on the table and look at it from the side (imagining it was a flat shade of colour and no 3D shading). It looks like it is completely flat, which is true, however its only a small slither (the spine) of the toilet roll that is laying flat.

You don't make any sense, one minute you're saying the side on view shows it as mostly flat, then you say the top/bottom view shows it as mostly curved. Find an object (or envision one) that has these characteristics and you will see that the 'illusion' that it's mostly curved occurs, you have your logic back to front.

The side view only shows that *some* portion of the iPhone's back is flat. I agree that the middle spine of the iPhone is completely flat. However this is not the entire back of the iPhone, meaning only the middle is flat, meaning when placed on a flat surface it will rock back and forth, look at the top view.

I looked at my tomtom go 910 remote, same characteristics, curved edges all round, mostly flat back, looks the same as the pics here when viewed side on, it's designed that way to fit well in the hand and also to be laid down on a flat surface.

Come on theyr'e having a laugh.

Its easy to get a Stereolithography machine to make some rapid prototypes of a likely looking design, rub them down with emery cloth, spray paint them and you have a plausible looking product.

Or easier still photoshop the whole thing.

This is a bunch of cowboys and they've taken in the whole world.

What are you talking about? Those pics are of an iPhone CASE, not the phone itself.

Yea, I'm guilty of thinking thats the entire phone as well. You can clearly see the actual phones INSIDE the pics of the cases.
I actually thought the "case" that was shown, was a skin or sticker type.

Guess we're all "jonesin" to see what the new phone will look like. Goes to show you that no matter what Apple comes up with, there are going to be complainers right off the bat. I never liked a case on my iPhone. I thought it took away from the beauty of the phone and made it clunky looking. This case is no different. Unfortunatly for me, a case is a necessary evil. I HATE accidently dropping my phone and no matter how carefull I am, it seems to get dropped occasionally - even from a foot or two.

Just a teaser? I cant wait!

No, actually if you look at the 3g one in full size http://www.xskn.com/?m=Products&sid=282&cid=1 (click on the magnifying glass to see pics), versus the current iPhone http://www.xskn.com/default.aspx?m=Products&sid=277&cid=654 , there is a lot more reflection, meaning that the iphone isn't touching the "table". Compare the pictures on the far right.

On the 3g, only the "spine" of the case touches.
I still don't see what you are talking about, even on the view from the top there appears to be a flat spot in the middle, as somebody has stated a few posts ago, think of it as the MBA's bottom. And those two links are dead.;)

I'm the same in regards to cases on phones, it's a love hate relationship, most cases take away from the elegance of the phone, but it's a killer when you scuff/ding/drop etc a phone...isn't it funny how dropping a phone seems to happen in slow motion....people say that about car crashes too.

How do you know?

I don't know what's going on. I doubt that it's fake. To me it looks more like a new case for the existing iPhone.

How do I know they are Fake??

Well, OK, if you must know.

Because this is the first photo of the new 3g Iphone 2.0 Case in Lime Green. And this exclusively shows to the right the 3G Iphone itself in all its stunning lime green flatness. Lime Green is just one of 23 colours.

Whats more these babies are dishwasher safe...

looks like the changed the renders since yesterday. Engadget's post shows perforated speaker grilles on the bottom. The XSKN website now has speakers more in line with the 'leaked design specs'

They probably will sell 3G iphone cases and they have taken an educated guess. So they will take orders now and they could turn around a rapid tool in a week and complete the orders.

Smart move to a) get people to your website and b) get some of them to actually order a 3g iphone case even if they don't actually have it designed yet and c) get people to order say ipod covers or iphone 1.0 covers.

I just can't buy the fact that as this outfit are in PRC they are not going to sign apples non disclosure agreements or if even if they do they won't respect them.

So why would apple release this info to them??

The big guys like Belkin no doubt have reference design but not a shonky back street outfit like these guys.

We are talking about apple, the company who won't even show very senior executives the new iphone let alone some fly by nights in China...

I know we are desperate for information on this and the world so wants to believe but personally I can't see it here. Iv'e seen very respectable publications say that this is the real thing and shows front facing camera and how its a thicker design. Its staggering about how gullible the press are.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Like I said earlier, it's not impossible that the specs could have been leaked, much like any other leak.By specs, all we're talking are dimensions/measurements, not the content of the device.

Oh come on - some of us don't have time to go through the 140+ posts prior to asking a question. For a forum this large, there are going to be questions asked multiple times, and we shouldn't be slammed for it.

But couldnt they atleast read the first post completely.

.... The image of the iPhone itself appears to be a stock photo of the original iPhone, so no conclusions can be drawn from the icons and interface seen.

Ok maybe, just maybe someone at foxconn or wherever has leaked the design to his mate who runs a case company. But it wouldn't be from apple themselves.

But I still think this is very very remote.

How many photos have appeared in the last few weeks claiming to be THE 3G iphone??? The One from a french blog turned out to be a photoshopped LG.

First of all

Nothing is impossible. A case for the iPod nano was leaked several days before the unveiling of the new design of the nano, so it's entirely possible that the design specs have been leaked. Unlikely? Sure... impossible? Not at all. Now stop trolling

Also, for the people that aren't seeing what people mean by the back of this case being too rounded to sit flat on a table without wobbling. I enlarged the view of the case in question, and if you look at it with your eyes open, you'll see a discrepancy in the shadow imposed in this rendering.

20080520-q74twrtk6hik4a4j7csnak9w8d.jpg

If you look at the top view, the shadow does not quite touch the case, which makes it look like it's very rounded and has very little surface area that can touch a flat surface at once.
If you look at the bottom view, the shadow has been moved up to touch it, and it appears to have a much flatter back with just the edges being tapered.

I would assume the bottom view would be more like what the actual product would look like, but again- we don't know if it's real yet

This is hardly fake, if you read a few days to a week back on the news page, you will see a story about how Apple released the dimensions of the phone to case developers so they could have cases ready for its release. I'll try to find the link for you. And from my understanding, the 3G chip is slightly larger than the EDGE chip, and the space inside the current phone is so "cramped", I don't think that there is really all that much to take out. And from a design standpoint, the new corner design does make it look somewhat sleeker, even if it isn't actually thinner.

EDIT: Found the Article, it was published here on May 1st, Article Link

Ok still, why would Apple Legal let this slide if it were real? Apple is like a pack of rabid dog when one of their products gets leaked.
