It shows a bricking reference!
PLEASE don't do this apple, I AM getting an iPhone, I want a V2 but if you make it gay to unlock then you just loose out on £300 of my money as im NOT getting a O2 contract, thats for sure.

It'll be broken anyway but my k750i is dying and I neeeeeed a new phone ASAP!

The recently released iPhone SDK Beta 3 continues to give up juicy hints as to Apple’s intents for the handset’s next major update; not only has the 3G chipset been identified but new code referring to stereo Bluetooth headset support, suggestions of GPS and new functionality for mobile Safari and Google Maps. There are also signs that Apple may not be taking the ongoing hacking of the iPhone lying down, with the inclusion of a “BRICKED_AND_LOCKED_SIM_STRING” that suggests the handset could seize up should an unlocking attempt be made.

My view is that iPhone buzz has probably got the wrong end of the stick. Id imagine this is more to do with remote wiping a lost (enterprise) iPhone. Hence Bricked & locked.

Aren't you more curious about:

Finally, there are suspicions that Apple will require official activation of an iPhone via iTunes before Firmware 2.0 is permitted to install.

;) Seems like it might be your loss. Why not get an O2 contract? O2 is multi-year exclusive in the UK as recently stated afawk.

The iMID/maxi iPhone (with or without Phone capabilities)

(Reminds me that we need apple to sort out this nomenclature. Reminds me of Iron Man - SHIELD. Of course, let's call it SHIELD (Did you stay to the very end to see Samuel L Jackson? Well done ;) ))

So if this is relevant as much to a multi-touch screen as a multi-touch keypad, what else is in store? We've already seen a lot of ground covered . I have the feeling the WWDC Bingo cards need rewriting! (Note - the wide "touchpad" patent was an addition to an earlier patent. Either the original or the addition was originally filed in August 2004.

Remember the rumours about 5.2 inch 800 x 480 pixel touch screens?
480p = 720×480
720p = 1280 x 720
1080p = 1920x1080

800x400 =! 720x480?
Isn't 720x480 what standard widescreen DVDs (via TV, with rectangular pixels) and technically 480p, with iTunes e.g. TV shows (with square pixels = 640x480)?
So is 800x480 a widescreen version? (Those extra 160 pixels).

Shout out to David Sieger and seekingalpha (who do great transcripts, decent news feed, and got a scoop it seems through Sieger. Rumours rumours rumours eh?

February 08: 800 by 480 resolution screen- possibility for new iphone?
March 08: higher resolution- 480 by 800 screen for 3g iphone

Microsoft catch-up
Microsoft has the 360 (and also the RRoD, replacing the FBSOD). Apple has the iPhone. It seems Microsoft is playing catch up with each other's markets -
Microsoft knocking up WM7 with a ground up redesign for WM8. Apple already preparing iPhone's OS 2.0, and bringing hand-console gaming in via the iPhone (and possibly more, but see previous posts).

To link in with the previous Gates speech, let's head back to MIX06:

Gates in his MIX06 keynote, promised to update / release a new version of IE as often as every 9-12 months to keep pace with quickly evolving Web technologies and programming tools, lest we forget.
Leopard slipped a few months. IE 7 shipped October 06. 19 months later, 7 months overdue, and we’re at Beta 1.x IE 8. (And it took a while to even get that from Redmond).

"In a sense we're doing a mea culpa, saying we waited too long for a browser release," ..."I expect us to move very very rapidly there because we see great opportunities."

Some other stonking MIX06 quotes in retrospect:

"I'm a total believer in the tablet thing"
The video is here

"I do think you do need to think about the cell phone. We're doing some things to let it display on a TV-type screen.

I hope Apple is doing "some things" to get iPhone display up. Well worth waiting for, no? ( I really wish I knew who was actually reading this, as the hit count goes up a 1,000 a night! - Maybe a roll call would be fun :p Feedback from the lurkers appreciated. )

Problems Gates sees?
- Syncing. You gotta make it simple to have more than one PC and other devices. The logistical nightmare that is syncing.

Other jumbled stuff

Video, better screen. It's been said before, but bears repeating - Apple TV Take 3 will have decent integration, with a chain-reaction halo effect from all devices integrated together. Perhaps.
If SGOLD 3H (Please lord let it be that now!) has a DVB-H module option, and Swisscom are going to be one of the carriers doing mobile TV, it kinda makes sense to mech up the DVR sector into the Apple TV, and then get TV really really really into the iPhone.
(Torrent(ed) TV on iPhone has huge potential)

Shaw Wu (American Technology Research) has already made the point that Apple TV will soon incorporate DVR tech with iPhone/iPod Touch possibly as the remote control
The cost to add the feature ~ $12-$15 of hardware per unit. The benefits? I'd say it was worth stumping some $ for. Blue ray? What blue ray... (showing the point that being greedy and keeping prices up on players and discs = giving opportunity to have your market stolen by alternative tech).

Asus - maker of the eeeeepc. Can't see why Apple can't knock out a UMPC/sub-notebook whilst they're at it. hehe.

http://www.starbucks.com/retail/find/LocatorResults.aspx?fs=1. Wi-fi for the masses?

Current rollout of iPhone: U.S. Apple stores, and 7,000 AT&T outlets
India's rollout: Aim to sell through ~ "250,000 Vodafone and Airtel stores"
Ratio of India's population to U.S. population >3:1
Ratio of China's population to U.S. population >4:1

Haven't heard any real PR-leaks about China yet. Or the Nordic countries. Plenty of time no doubt.

;) Seems like it might be your loss. Why not get an O2 contract? O2 is multi-year exclusive in the UK as recently stated afawk.

For £20 a month I can get 500 mins and unlimited texts
or for £22.50 a month I can get 200 mins, 600 texts and unlimited internet.

O2 cheapest is £35 for 500 mins 600 texts and unlimited.

I use about 30 mins A MONTH. So the plans are totally out of the question for me.

If they do make it silly to unlock i'll just get a V1 16Gb and be done with it.

Im sure apple know that the contracts are stupidly overpriced and won't do anything stupid to jeopardize the few thousand sales (at least!) to people who don't want it. I suspect they will lock it again but give it two weeks and everyone will have cracked it ;)

Apparently V2 has already been cracked lol.

I really hope apple isn't stupid on the locking thing :(

# people who unlock < # people who won't unlock in countries with Apple carriers currently I think we agree.

Previously, unlocking was as much carrier choice as about apps. Come June, apps will be covered a lot more with locked phones (we'll see the details of how Apple deals with unlocked phones). So it seems carrier choice is the big thing.

I'd hope that O2 make a £20-25 rate, but it's not too likely. They're more likely to keep the tariff prices, and just give you more (data, minutes, texts).

If you only use 30 minutes a month, is the 3G iPhone for you? Maybe the Touch, or the upcoming mini Tablet might suit you better, alongside a PAYG (v1 iPhone perhaps - they'll be dirt cheap soon).

It brings up a good point that the general advice for everyone is to actually wait for reviews of the phone. Whining after buying the thing but not checking the reviews and specs of a device such as the 3G iPhones is a sin so deadly, we have special lolcat pictures to take the piss. :D

Anyone care to make up a new iPhone vs Diamond, Bold etc piccie? :)

.

I would agree there.

I want a touch iPod = £160, new phone = £100. Carrying two things = sucks in jeans (wallet, keys, phone, iPod = no hope in hell :p)

Makes sense now doesn't it ;)

I'll be getting one, just depends on if its V2 or not, im pretty sorted on the contract I want (unlimited texts + 500 mins for £20 + £1/day for internet)but unfortunately thats not O2.

Im afraid as it stands, £35 is a total and utter rip off :(

Is it me, or did minors not have £30- 40 monthly direct debits only a few years ago...
Yes it is expensive. It isn't necessarily being marketed at all the market niches that might like it (high schoolers, teenagers, etc). Doesn't stop y'all wanting on though - hence the desire for unlocked/PAYG / lower tariff options.

Yea, and I get it too :p

The main idea behind getting an iPhone is the iPod part of it. The fact it can text/phone/internet is 2nd, it saves me having two items to charge/look after. The dock ftw.

I've been a mac man since I was 6 and after playing with a V1 in an O2 store I so so SO want one :D

But I don't waste money, £35 a month on stuff I wouldn't use is silly. Hence why I want a different contract or it to be hacked again.

On average according to my phone logs i've sent 6500 messages in just over 14 months, so thats 15-20 messages a or 600 a month, and I didn't really use it at all in the first 6 months.

So yea, T-Mobile sim + iPhone = me sorted :D

Intel having Atomic Kittens
From the front page:
Fortune notes Intel has now denied the statements published by ZDnet.de yesterday. They claim that Intel Germany's CEO was making general remarks about the kind of mobile devices that the Atom might power in the future. They go on to claim they know "nothing" about future products from other manufacturers. Fscklog also contacted an Intel Germany spokesperson who also states that this statement never happened.

The confusion, however, is not one of poor German-to-English translation, as the original ZDnet article clearly stated what was reported. ZDNet's original article is now linking to another account of the events. PCGamesHardware.de confirms statements like these were made, though without direct quotes the exact interpretation of it remains up for debate (translated by Leo from Fscklog):

Quote:
PCGH-Editor Daniel Waadt was there as well and can attest, that Schwaderer referred to the iPhone as an example for the use of the atom-processor from Intel. The Intel CEO mentioned furthermore, that the display on iPhone 2 would be bigger than on iPhone 1 (although it is already quite big). iPhone 2 is also thinner than iPhone 1.

Fortune -Google translation:
Managing Director of swather statement referred generally to MIDs

Intel has in yesterday's ZDNet report cited statements by CEO Hannes Schwaderer on future iPhone models denied. Schwaderer had only general comments on possible Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), and not on future iPhone models speculation. The Apple iPhone is merely an example of small Internet access devices in this context have been mentioned. "Intel does not know about future products of other manufacturers and can therefore say nothing about," said press spokesman Mike Cato to ZDNet.de.

Speculation about the use of the Intel processor atom in a future Apple mobile devices have been around since long. In addition to a number of sites was also the most prestigious and well-informed New York Times (NYT) reported.

In his blog, 3 March 2008 writes NYT reporter John Markoff of a conversation with Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook: "At a financial conference on Wednesday, Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook confirmed that the iPod touch a platform and there is no single product. That would be indicating that something in the nature of a safari pads in the development stage - a device with Wi-Fi wireless connectivity, the reader as a high-quality digital media could be used. "

On 9 June 2008 can be the truth in the run-up to the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) emerged rumors about new technologies. Then holds Apple chief Steve Jobs his opening speech, and we will see if he is a mobile Internet device based on the Intel atom with a larger display presents - or not. Confirmed will depict the original ZDNet report by colleagues of PC Games hardware.

I know naaaaaaaaaaaaathing.

Google translation

PCGH editor Daniel Waadt was likewise locally and can testify that Schwaderer called the coming Iphone as example of the employment of the atomic processor of Intel. In addition the Intel boss mentioned that the display of the Iphone 2 would fail more largely than with the Iphone 1 (whereby the display is all right large here). But the Iphone 2 flatter than the Iphone 1. is.

Also the colleagues of ZDNet write something similar, however GOLEM reports with reference to a Intel speaker not specified that it can concern here only a misunderstanding. The Intel boss “cannot know anything due to the secrecy politics of Apple about future Iphones”. Thus it remains open whether future Iphones with of Intel comes atomic processor or not.

So Intel's press spokesman says the statement made by Germany-Intel CEO Hannes Schwaderer didn't happen or wasn't that meaning, or somesuch.
He was just
- speculating
- using future Apple product as a hypothetical example
- spreading an Apple Atom iMID rumour.

Due to the secrecy of Apple about future products, the Germany Intel CEO doesn't know anything. So to repeat - the CEO doesn't know the goings on with Apple. Right. Nothing to see. Please move along... ....

PCGH-Editor Daniel Waadt seems to suggest otherwise.
So a thinner larger iMID, alongside the new iPhone?

Shows you how fast information can Chinese whisper. It's getting onto techmeme and such now. I'd be interested to see when non-Apple rumor followers start hearing about Apple's plans - any UK paper info?
I'm guessing the Guardian's Technology section should add some, but i'd imagine they won't main section news till it's a little closer to WWDC, or Apple opens up a bit and either sets out some teaser info, or otherwise shows it's hand a little.

About the iPhone when is the latest that an announcement could come? t0mat0, do you think it will be announced in WWDC or before hand now? Don't understand what apple is doing delaying the announcement with no stock around!!

There are only 3 Tuesdays left before the Keynote. Most likely June 9th, and Announcement. Likely to be on sale in U.S. on 9th. And fingers crossed on 9th every current carrier selling now gets them the next day. Those slated for 3G carrier deals get them asap.

Seems like Apple has a lot to leak off it's chest.

Quite interesting to actually read a patent from
In another embodiment, content specific or local to a merchant may be provided to personal media devices that are in wireless communication with a wireless router affiliated with the merchant. For example, if the merchant is a restaurant, the merchant may provide a menu to the personal media device and the user may place an order on his or her media device by selecting items on the menu.

"Wireless communication may be performed with a relatively short-range wireless communication protocol such as Wi-Fi (e.g., a 802.11 protocol), Bluetooth (registered trademark), high frequency systems (e.g., 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.6 GHz communication systems), or other relatively localized wireless communication protocol"

E..g random section "0053]The personal media device may run software installed on the device. Software such as games, application tools (e.g., calendar program), and other desirable programs may be installed on a personal media device. The software may be transferred to the media device over a wired or wireless path. Some of these software programs may require a wireless path (e.g., a short-range wireless path) to perform properly. For example, a game may require access to the Internet so the user can play against other players.[internet iPhone gaming?] As such, a wireless path connection may be needed to connect to the Internet. As another example, the game may involve a treasure hunt where the user may be required to go to different locations in order to wirelessly receive additional clues to continue the hunt[geocache hunt? GPS hint?]. (A discussion of location-based content is discussed in more detail below.) Yet another example, some games may require wireless connection of two or more media devices [2 or more iPhone's head to head?]. Other software such as application software (e.g., word processor, media managers, etc.) may require updates (e.g., new program versions or add-on programs) that may be downloaded wirelessly. If desired, such updates may be downloaded automatically to a media device wirelessly when a user enters into the range of a short-range wireless communication network. In other approaches, a user may browse through a listing of available "widget" programs available on the short-range wireless communication network that may be added to a program running on the media device
The particular location may include a merchant, a retail establishment, a restaurant, a theater, a concert, a tourist attraction, a transportation hub (e.g., airport or train station), information kiosks, or any other establishment.

Local server 1010 may be connected to transaction and logging equipment (not shown) which may be included with the establishment to process orders (which may be received from media device 1020) and exchange of funds (e.g., a credit or debit transaction).

etc.

Just throwing this out there, might not even be that far out there after all.

We've seen how starbucks offered free wifi to iphone users, but soon after stopped, saying they were not ready to publicly release it to iphone users across the nation. What if they were holding their announcement for June 9th, when the starbucks apps possibly comes available along with the new 2.0 software and (probably) new iphones.

This could be one direct example of the LBS's that you were talking about t0mat0! What do you think? Will free nationwide starbucks wifi for the iphone be announced the same day? It might make more sense than we give them credit for. ;)

Justin

How is Jobs going to fit all this info (not just about iPhone) into the keynote?

Exactly. My thoughts - was thinking about how to phrase it!

Apple doesn't want to overcrowd the iPhone - KISS, KIS.
Starbucks wifi for Apple on the 9th most likely. Then Apple can vet who else gets a similar service- they provide wi-fi Apple oversees the app, consumer gets decent LBS apps.
Gotta go. Will go over it more later . It's an interesting area.

Edit: So 9to5mac gives another example - as rumoured previously about a whole collaboration of Kroger, otehr supermarkets/stores having a way to make payments, get discount vouchers etc for the iPhone.

So is this an app appearing on your iphone for any store that wants to make one? if you're in proximity, it pops up?
No. Apple controls the App store. It's a guess, but i'm guessing that all these shops will use Apps. And those apps need to be given the Green light by Apple - they can micro-manage and co-ordinate who is allowed to have proximity based apps. McDonalds, Kroger, Starbucks, Airports, etc. Not anyone who fancies it (the security risk of letting anyone do it would be huge too).

Thus i'd guess there won't be spam. This isn't Facebook apps being let loose. These LBS apps will have to conform to the App restrictions in terms of how they look, handle etc.
you can use Google's apps too - Google will do a lot with your location info - they can pinpoint you, show you the nearest shop type you require (restaurants, cashpoints etc).
The 2 way split might work well. Android is going to use something similar you'd imagine.

http://www.9to5mac.com/iphone_apps_patent_filing
Seeing as Apple has a patent on using an iPhone to pay for things such as Groceries, meals and other commerce , it looks doable:
The whispers were about transformnig iTunes (with its sophisticated micro-payment infrastructure, tied to a credit card) into some kind of virtual wallet. Virtual coupons sound just the start of the wedge.

WWDC tidbits

Keynote from 10am through to 11.15am. That's .. pm UK time.
The Schedule is split between iPhone, Mac, and iPhone and Mac(and IT) Definitely 2 bridges.

of note in the WWDC Sessions - there are several unnamed yet to be announced sessions. I'd put good money these will be announced after the keynote, as they concern keynote suprises (GPS, haptics, WiMax, Remote control usage, whatever goodies are in the new iPhones).
In all there are: 1 Tuesday Morning, 4 on Tuesday Afternoon, 4 on Wednesday Afternoon, 4 on Thursday morning , 1 on Thursday Afternoon, 4 on Friday Morning, 2 on Friday Afternoon
That's 18 odd session slots - not announced.

Stump the experts Wednesday Evening sounds fun, as does Bonjour APIs with iPhone Tuesday Morning 328 Essentials
In terms of WWDC labs - lots of open hours. Of note posssssibly - Friday morning: iPhone Location and Accelerometer Lab
Core Location, and Accelerometer usage.

http://blogs.computerworld.com/apple_tablet_emerges is a good read.
As is http://www.itwire.com/content/view/18236/1103/1/0/ Here's to hoping the chipset allows the iPhone to roam on all the major 3G networks and their respective frequencies.

Most likely June 9th, and Announcement. Likely to be on sale in U.S. on 9th.

t0mat0 - do you think the 3G iPhone is going to be available on the same day as the announcement? I was expecting there to be a huge marketing campaign for the new iPhone. Kinda like the first gen. I was seeing commercials for the first gen iPhone for months before it was released. Im not sure when the first gen was announced compared to when it was released, but for some reason I just dont see it happening on the same day.

I'm not t0mat0, but I'd say it's going to be available immediately, or at least up for pre-order the same day or next. They don't seem to have any to sell right now, so they don't want to waste too much time.

Question that just struck me.

Wouldn't the FCC have leaked details about the new iPhone by now? I guess now that I think about it, they kept pretty quiet about the last iPhone that released... but still I thought we would at least know for sure if a new iPhone were to be coming out...

Not smart for apple if they did this. If they waited after the announcement, sales would slow, or possibly even come to a halt because the consumer would wait for the new features (at the same price point, or with the rumored subsidy) just like we're doing here on macrumors- we're waiting for it.

No, this has been disproved a while back. Companies can ask the FCC to wait on granting the approval. Just search for a post kdarling made about apple and fcc approval.

Just letting you know, I've been infrequently posting in this thread for the last month or so, but you better believe I'm going to participate in this discussion a hell of a lot more than before, especially with the new facts (?) and rumors that have and will be flooding in. :D

Thanks,
Justin

t0mat0 - do you think the 3G iPhone is going to be available on the same day as the announcement?

For the U.S. yes, for carriers that have already sold the v1 iPhone - hopefully too, and the named other countries following suit asap.
You were seeing ads for the iPhone after it was announced, and before it was launched. I'd expect announcement at WWDC, and launch as soon after as possible - Apple wants these in your hands.

E.g. The information from France Telecoms Orange mobile unit is that they have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Oranges African markets later this year.

A few of these countries now have multiple carriers due to this statement and join several other countries with multiple carriers.

As
the list
of countries grows by the week, Apple leaks them out.

In terms of a subsidy - we'll have to see. UK and others seemed to be hit with a full price handset, and also high monthly rental costs. Other offers on all networks absorb the cost of the majority of the handset price through the length of the contract. Total price over the length of the contract is the vital thing if you aren't going to try to unlock. Handset price is more relevant if you are thinking of unlocking.

Macworld confirms thoughts that Google will have native native iPhone apps ready.
Vic Gundotra, Google's VP of engineering: "We expect to have applications at Day One"

No suprise there - Google Maps was big on Jobs' inaugral demo of the iPhone, Google Maps and YouTube have had positions on the iPhone

Google has subsequently released a web-based app that gets Gmail, Calendar, Reader, etc available to iPhone users. Is it best to have a web-based app, or an app on the iPhone.

I'd imagine that offline capable apps from Google will be hear, push email, GPS and Street View mapping, allowing low level Sat Nav (And great mashups available - GATCO speec camera warnings for example).

The strength of the upcoming version of Safari on iPhone (The acid test score for Web Kit will help hopefully) is seen by Google.

So both native programs and and web-based apps. "It's the best of both worlds," Gundotra said.

Will be interesting to see where Flash takes Google Maps too :)

Also - what with Street View, and also wiki, and Pictures being added,
when is it before geolocated accessible live streaming webcams get added as a layer by Google (there is already possibly a layer, but i haven't checked - i'm thinking more to do with integration into Google's product - just a border round the cam).
Maybe also an LBS "Explore this area" from Google maps (which currently lets you "explore an area by viewing photos, videos, user-created maps, and suggested local queries")

The youtube video is here

New iPhone now moving from the Technology section and the Business section, to the News in Brief section yesterday in the Grudian

I imagine the relevant peeps are already profiled so when the time comes prior to the WWDC in the next few weeks, they'll have enough to get some Main section news out of Apple.

Remote Wipe, remote lock

Might be a decent deterrent to stealing an iPhone, if it gets bricked as soon as the unique ID gets black-balled and the info is sent from the carrier to the iPhone. And this is backed up by a recent Apple spokesperson in a Guardian article on tech theft

Apple had a quote :
"Apple, which makes the iPod and iPhone, said that it already helped owners personalise their gadgets and was considering other ways to help deter criminals.

"Some customers choose to use Apple's free engraving service to engrave their name and email address onto their iPod," a spokeswoman told the Guardian, adding that future versions of the iPod and iPhone would "enable security features such as remote wipe and password policies".

...Professor Gamman... said that businesses needed to concentrate on making anti-theft systems appealing to ordinary users.

"People need to know that anti-crime solutions are cost-effective, look sexy and are easy to use," she said. "Maybe companies have to look at what people actually want."

t0mat0 - do you think the 3G iPhone is going to be available on the same day as the announcement? I was expecting there to be a huge marketing campaign for the new iPhone. Kinda like the first gen. I was seeing commercials for the first gen iPhone for months before it was released. Im not sure when the first gen was announced compared to when it was released, but for some reason I just dont see it happening on the same day.

I will say this, if its June 6th...I am already asking for the day off at work....
and perhaps investing in a sleeping bag...

3 days before the keynote? Interesting :D

I'm happy to hang fire and hit London's Apple Store to see all the new kit. Nothing like getting a decent play with it without any hassle from O2 reps...

The MWSF had a decent 3-4 commentator streaming webcast about the presentation (they were going off updated news feeds, as there weren't to my knowledge any live streaming video feeds (Apple doesn't condone them). Neither were there any live audio feeds. That I know of.

Macrumors should be great to check - i'm probably going to have qik.com for Scoble ready (he ain't going, but he'll probably relent and cover the keynote. )

Any other suggestions for what to have up web wise to follow immediately preceding, during and after the keynote?

Just to run with the Google Maps a bit more:
Seeing as you don't want to get overloaded with apps for everything under the sun , they might make Maps a main point for things like speed traps, gas prices , realtime park info, tourist guides etc. It seems there is a problem of potentially getting overloaded with lots of apps trying to do the same thing.

As said before, it'll be interesting to see the implementation of the Apps Store. They've certainly moved up a gear - the Logistics of scaling up from a few countries, to international carrier coverage seems a monumental feat. I understand that international companies have these infrastructures, but it's still interesting to see the ramp up of sales and distribution that Apple is developing.

Global numbers crunched
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster summarized the flood of recent iPhone deals in a note to clients on Friday. The key numbers in his report:

* 46 carriers announced to date (up from 6 currently)
* 42 countries covered (up from 6)
* 575 million total available market (up from 153 million)

3% of 575 million is >10 million...

You've got till today, for the invite for a week's notice ;)
the Apple store will go down probably...

More lining up announcements from the carriers.
Guess we can start filling this in, eh?

WWDC last year?

Vista was selling "tens of dozens of copies"
Intel CEO Paul Otellini came on stage (expect that again - Atom style)
EA came "back to Mac" - Finally with the iPhone gaming comes to Apple!
Id - demoed id tech 5
Showed 10 of Leopards features
Stacks, dock, back to my Mac, cover flow for files & quicklook, 64 bit OS, Boot Camp native speed Windows; Spaces, Dashboard, Web Clip, iChat, Time Machine, Safari on Windows, iPhone - web apps prior to the SDk,

I imagine Apple can do better than this: http://ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

Demoed as an app to
-Use your iPhone as a disk (file storage)
- Access, Edit and Create Notes (send text files, PDFs, Word files to iPhone notes app for reading and editing*)
- View and Export Call History
- View and Export SMS
- View Synced Photos

- Drag and drop, copy options, sync options.
* I don't know much about the breadth of jailbroken apps - has a Word doc reader been out for a long time, or are they new?

Google
Did you know that in January, they tweaked the Maps, so that you didn't need the address of your starting and end points before ultimately getting your directions?

You can type in any location where you want to go - e.g. a specific street address, a business name like Uncle Sam's Saucy Salsa Club, or something even more general like "florist" and Google will get directions. And then automatically try to find the closest results.

The example the Google Maps blog uses is this: Now we can just put in "651 N. 34th Street Seattle to pizza" and choose from our options.
Picadilly Circus to curry via Pub, anyone? :)

Worldwide webcams
If google can convert mapplets and tools onto the iPhone, wow :)

NAND
Why did Apple revise down their NAND purchases for 08?
Surely with >10 million iPhones being sold in 08, they'd need more?

considering that Blackberry just announces the new touch screen Thunder..

Steve - "o" better get that iphone asap
