So when's it going to hit mainstream? techmeme.com now has Gizmodo's story at the top... This should feed into El Reg, and the like, potentially with more "insider" information. Phil Schiller or otherwise
A quick thanks to
Charles Arthur,
Editor, Technology at the Guardian newspaper (A fine read if you're looking for a decent paper, and their
website is cracking good stuff - nicer layout imho than The Times (and they get a lot of overseas readers due to this I believe)
His take:
"I think it highly unlikely that Gizmodo has inside sources at Apple on this."
I stand corrected on this (It was probably more likely AT&T sources or similar), but still feel either someone is about to meet a painful Vista, or Apple let this one out themselves as part of the build up we've seen. The carriers I would imagine are leaking at Apple's command. Apple runs a tight ship so to speak.
"A common theme about Apple forecasts by people who don't have inside information is that they assign them all sorts of features that turn out not to be included. Try a quick search over forecasts for the original iPhone to see how wrong many people got that."
And I'm sure it'll be interesting heading back over comments made on the threads as to what was right, wrong, and just ahead of it's time...
If it's anything like last time, you'll see snippets on the iPhone, but no major articles on it till come June 9th (or till the rumours firm up) - I'd imagine the speculation is ok for users like us, but major newspapers/news reporters don't want to be attached to information that isn't most likely accurate (You ever see the pain caused about the Bear Stern stocks by one of the U.S. News Stock commenters?) We know when the speech is, that there haven't been handsets for about a month, and Apple brought us iPhone last year.
Till then, "Uncle Walt" is ahead of us!
Edit:
Richard Wray at The Guradian might post something, e.g.
