Looks like it is all coming together now T. June 9th. Should we call that t0mat0 Day?

Unfortunately for me, I am traveling to Chicago that day. I am going to miss the keynote (I wish the airlines would roll out their internet access faster).

Guess I will have to map the closest Apple store and run over there when I land to pick one up.

I am almost giddy with the thought :D

I'd like to applaud t0mat0 et al for the sterling work in this thread.

Marvellous stuff.

Definitely! Only 20 more days it seems and t0mat0 has a lot more time on his hands presuming you won't go out and pick up another story or side track on more iPhone rumors!

About the UK release, would that be instantaneous then? Or does it go with Europe as 1-2 weeks after keynote?

I've been following this from the first post. This has been the best information I have ever come across on a forum. Thank you t0mat0. I don't know what I will look at on my new iPhone if you don't continue on some new topic!

Cheers for the compliments - helps know the thread is enjoyed! (with the ratio of unsubscribed to subscribed macrumor forum members as it is a lot of the thread views must be non-macrumor members. (as an aside - It seems Google spiders the pages pretty efficiently)).

Just to bring to this page, as we've just hit page 22:

Gizmodo
There sources "close to the 3G iPhone launch" say announcement at WWDC, and also available just after - immediately for U.S. , same day or next day for current carriers, asap for new carriers (Spain, Italy etc etc).

I'm happy to take suggestions on new threads :) I won't have as much time, but it'd be interesting to see what crops up. I foresee BIG things regarding simple multi-touch panels/boxes/projected multi-touch (E.g. Johnny's white screen tech with a Mac's multi-touch and booom - you've got Perspective Pixel/ Lux tech).

Part of the reason this thread is as it is is because I sat out v1 iPhone. I'm hoping to make an app, but the depth of the app needs certain things (It's a dancing application (and applicable to most recurring events that video could be shared about - school lessons, any sport etc). - I need a timeline search function in KML for a start, a video recorder on the iphone, ability to edit video on the iPhone, slow mo play on the iPhone, youtube integration, and some serious ObjC/XCode work. I have the feeling others will do much better, but it's fun to dabble. more on that as a separate thread).

UK - As said before - i'd bet that current carriers will get the iPhone 9th/ 10th. Newly announced ones that have yet to get the iPhone in their country - will either launch concurrently, or asap after (Australia, Italy, Spain etc etc). Note that China & India - the largest most populous countries haven't really even had solid rumours about as yet (nanoiPhone /September rumour for India aside)...

10am Cupertino time (PST) = 6pm BST = 1pm EST

Put 6pm BST then your time zone into Google to find out. (eg. 10am PST to ...)

Don't forget the problems with black on the original 1st batch of v1 iPhones - There is a distinct diametric pull between getting one quickly (heck, who are we to say there will be too many in stock come June 9th) and seeing the reviews, waiting out any initial hardware problems.
There is a certain glee of claiming to getting one as soon as they were out, but hopefully we could all transcend that if we needed to ;)
That said - Apple goodies & t-shirts!!!

ok...June 9th...taking day off....

what time (US eastern) will Steve address the public?

Do you think he is going to be like "ok every body....run to the nearest apple store"

should I start camping out? b/c I don't want them to sell out....

I might as well spend the night at my local mall on the 8th, b/c that means they have to have it in the back, if on the 9th they are gonna sell....

:confused::D:rolleyes::confused:

Apple Source

So when's it going to hit mainstream? techmeme.com now has Gizmodo's story at the top... This should feed into El Reg, and the like, potentially with more "insider" information. Phil Schiller or otherwise ;)

A quick thanks to Charles Arthur, Editor, Technology at the Guardian newspaper (A fine read if you're looking for a decent paper, and their website is cracking good stuff - nicer layout imho than The Times (and they get a lot of overseas readers due to this I believe)

His take:

"I think it highly unlikely that Gizmodo has inside sources at Apple on this."

I stand corrected on this (It was probably more likely AT&T sources or similar), but still feel either someone is about to meet a painful Vista, or Apple let this one out themselves as part of the build up we've seen. The carriers I would imagine are leaking at Apple's command. Apple runs a tight ship so to speak.

"A common theme about Apple forecasts by people who don't have inside information is that they assign them all sorts of features that turn out not to be included. Try a quick search over forecasts for the original iPhone to see how wrong many people got that."

And I'm sure it'll be interesting heading back over comments made on the threads as to what was right, wrong, and just ahead of it's time...

If it's anything like last time, you'll see snippets on the iPhone, but no major articles on it till come June 9th (or till the rumours firm up) - I'd imagine the speculation is ok for users like us, but major newspapers/news reporters don't want to be attached to information that isn't most likely accurate (You ever see the pain caused about the Bear Stern stocks by one of the U.S. News Stock commenters?) We know when the speech is, that there haven't been handsets for about a month, and Apple brought us iPhone last year.

Till then, "Uncle Walt" is ahead of us!

Edit: Richard Wray at The Guradian might post something, e.g.

I highly doubt they're just going to "sell out". Apple hasn't had iphone stock for over a few weeks now, so its obvious they are stockpiling the new models.

300,000 in May 3,000,000 or so in June as per
http://www.appleinsider.com/article...laces_order_for_24_25_million_3g_iphones.html
http://www.appleinsider.com/article...hone_smaller_lighter_than_existing_model.html

That doesn't mean that there will not be short term delays/ temporary "out of stocks". We'll see.

Have to sieve through Jack Schofields post @ the Guardian though

I think Apple is trying to save money. If they make them early enough, they can have them sent by ship rather than air freight.;)

I believe June 9th is Apple/iPhone's special day ;)

I'll try to keep the title changes to a minimum (but it's nice to have a laugh once in a while) - it was always going to evolve in content as we moved to WWDC (that and the WWDC section will probably drown it out once the announcement comes). Don't mean to irk people.

So a few stats we don't know:
- Number of abstainees in Europe - the people who've waited for the 3G handset
- Number of "can't be bothered to wait til June 08" in Europe, who got a contract on another phone/carrier.
- The expected sales Apple now predicts for the 2nd Gen handset.
- How many boom/fantastic/amazing 's will use.

I'll tack a precis so far on with probabilities, and maybe even include the "blue sky thoughts" (e.g. Apple TV 3 is a gaming rig, Apple IR shades, iPhone as controller to a big TV that can do pseudo 3D gaming on a HD.)
No, wait, that's going to be possible if Apple has IR :D
Maybe the Touch OS spreading through the entire laptop desktop lineup (or at least a multi-touch variant). Octocore MBP - that's more like it...Is Europe actually getting it's derriere in gear and sorting out movie licensing too much to ask?

Out of all iPhone forums I think this one is the best. With tomat0 here, we get alot of news in this thread , which I bet can't be found on other forums.

It's gonna be weird seeing loads of people with iPhones. If people sign up for a 2 year contract and receive a $200 iPhone, ALOT of people will get one. But, it ultimately means more success for Apple. Even though I do see alot of people with it, it still has exclusivity to it.

Everything in this thread is speculation or culled from other news sources.

"Everything in this thread is speculation or culled from other news sources."

May be, but it IS the best that is out there and most well researched. I have quit going anywhere else.

Don't discredit unless you have better information to provide us.

I dont think they will meet demand in the first few months unless they price it out of the reach of most. And I doubt they will do that given last years price drop faux pax.
