MacRumors has heard some unconfirmed whispers about the 3G capable iPhone due at next week's WWDC. Besides 3G support, the following features/specs were also passed along, mostly consistent with circulating rumors:

- Lighter weight
- Black + other colors
- Focus on Multimedia with Video recording
- Video Conferencing
- GPS
- 16GB $499
- 32GB $699

As with all pre-release specs, confirmation can be difficult and intentional misinformation may be common, so we provide it for interest alone. If released exactly as described, this would eliminate the $399 8GB iPhone, keep the $499 16GB and add a $699 32GB model. This, however, does not necessarily preclude the possibility of a low end iPhone suggested by Kevin Rose in an rumor earlier today.

WWDC kicks off on June 9th with a keynote address by Steve Jobs.

$700 would seem retarded.

They had to drop from the $600 price point after 2 months to increase sales...

So where do "unconfirmed whispers" typically come from?

anonymous and otherwise submissions and contacts. I don't post on even this sort of thing unless I believe the information is passed along in good faith - in that I believe the person is telling the truth and they believe it to be true... and didn't just make it up themselves.

For random, anonymous submissions that could very well be made up, well, I usually don't post those.

didnt the mac mini cost 599? 700 for a phone is outrageous, i dont care how bad ass it is, that is uncalled for.

Unfortunately the prices sound right to me! $699 is steep but the Functionality will be out of this world! Other phones may have 3G and GPS etc but when it is implemented correctly it is effectively allowing you to replace a multitude of devices with your iPhone. That appears to be the angle taken so far and could very well continue. Steve will spell it out and sell it in such a way that it wont sound so bad!! LOL

$699 for 6 devices
Phone
iPod
High Speed Internet Device
Portable/Automobile GPS Unit
Video Communicator
32Gb Flash Drive :)

Apps

Also keep in mind that a 32gb iPhone would mean even more Apps that you could put on the phone because, we all know that the App Store is coming!!

I can imagine some of the great games that will be released may very well take up quite a bit of room!

32GB version is a good bump for iphone

I agree. Especially with the new app store.

Not possible. Apple is smart enough to know that the $700 model wouldn't sell due to consumers waiting. If a $600 model dropped by $200 in two months, why would people snatch the $700 one up? They wouldn't. Apple's smarter than this...

"other colors"

Dalmation or Flower Power iPhones, perhaps?

Pricing seems outrageous. It is not like Apple to release a new product and raise the price on it. It is almost always kept the same price or dropped a little. For the iPhone i could see a 16GB for $399 and 32GB for $499. Either that or they keep the 8GB for $399 and the 16GB for $499, and then add the 32GB for the premium price. Other than that, it sounds good. Can't wait!

The gap of 16 GB storage in the iPod touch shows a $100 difference.

16GB iPod touch = $399
32GB iPod touch = $499

8GB iPhone = $399
16GB iPhone = $499
32GB iPhone = $599

Apple holds a $100 difference between a 16GB iPod touch and a 16GB iPhone, $100 for the phone. 32GB iPod touch $499 32GB iPhone $599.

I think the prices are right, and Apple is also going to introduce either a lower end iPhone, or reduce the price of the current model.

$700 is fine for me, as long as it is at least 32 gigs. I really do not want to upgrade to 16 from 8, doesn't seem like a far enough jump. x4 the size will make a huge difference in what I can bring around with me, while x2 will not change that much.

Okay if they drop the $399 price theres
no way I'm buying the new one,
I mean 400 dollars for a cell phone
Is already a lot anything more is crazy
no matter how cool it is
I'm already having to pay full
price for a phone and having to sign
a two year contract on top of that

And does anyone else like the iPhones
keyboard when its black like when you
click the "list" button in the forums
or when you sign into your iTunes account?
I know random but it looks better like that.

That is probably the most reasonable assumption I have heard of regarding the cost of the iphone. Good job.

The fact that the iPhone will be using a single 32 gig flash chip makes sense in the other pricing. They are not cheap.

$700 does seem pretty absurd and I agree with others that $599 seems much more likely

I plan on getting the most space but for $700, I will stick with the 16-gig model

I wonder if:

16GB = $499 = No 3G
32GB = $699 = 3G

If so, that would really really suck. I didn't wait all this time for the second iPhone to be forced into buying a $699 phone!

No way, the difference is because of the high price of flash memory. If you don't think Apple will charge that much, look at the SSD option in the Macbook Air. The 32g will be an OPTION, and it can have that high a price.

For the record, I hope it doesn't, but it can.

I can argue with that. Take the 64 GB SSD for the MacBook Air. If his current formula follows, then the 64 GB would only be $400 more then an 8GB drive? Such as a flash drive? No way. At some point it takes a climb, and I think it does after 16 GB. Apple only has it a hundred dollars more because there making a lot of money off of the iPod touch, so adding the extra expense still makes them earn money. That's my opinion.

Ignoring the price for a minute...

How do you think video conferencing would be implemented? Would this be an option when on a call, or would it work with some kind of messenger?

Videos would probably upload to YouTube seamlessly - too bad, I'm way more into the new Flickr video.

GPS would be interested. One thing that would absolutely rock is Google Street View integration. That's a tall order, though - I wonder what an Apple-designed GPS would look (and sound!) like.
