No, dont believe that the iphone will feature a voice option for GPS but even if it will you still dont NEED the voice. Why not look at the screen?

While driving? Probably not the best idea, but if you do such things please tell me which roads you frequent so I may avoid them.

Oh yea, i see what you mean-- 'cause the current phone TOTALLY FAILS as a phone.

(where are you coming from on this?)

Umm, let's see, poor talk quality on the device...

And umm, LACK OF everything that a smart phone does. Remember, the thing can't even copy paste yet let alone read and edit documents from MS Office or iWork.

I know I know, SDK Beta and App store launch. I really can't wait for that vaporware to come to existence. I really can't though, because this wicked fast HTC Phone with real smart phone features SUCKS because of Windows Mobile.

And don't forget about the of missing features and specs that people on this very site have been wanting for the next iPhone. Not everyone is satisfied with the current model, nice and market leading as it may be. Fact is, not everyone is taken aback by the RDF.

Pricing...

I've heard from a close friend who works at Apple Corporate that the price point for the 3G iPhone shouldn't be above where it was most currently selling... of course the friend couldn't say anything else about it.

I can get all of that (minus the 32 gb....but sd-expandable) for like $79. I'll pay $399 for an iPhone and that's about it.

you can make a phone a great phone, but, it's just a phone. there's a limit how much most people are willing to spend..

Thats where you are very wrong. Its not "just a phone". Its an iPhone!!! :)

I have had 3 iPhones now (Day 1 8GB, replacement since I cracked my screen and my current 16GB) and I am not sure what you mean on call quality. Call quality has been excellent on all 3 devices. I guess I can't browse the web on my iPhone...oh wait, yes I can. No email either, oh wait, yes I can. Surely I can't take pictures or listen to music on my phone, oh crap, I can! Oh but I can't install applications on it like any other smart phone...oh that's right, I can do that unofficially now and officially next week. I can't play any games on it...oh *facepalm* I can! Wow, for a smart phone you are right, my iPhone can't do anything. At least you have a stylus I suppose.... :)

Could you stop being a sudo-jerk and actually read the post instead of posting the garbage that you did?

Since you missed the point I will break it down a bit. The current phone isn't a smart phone by any standards, except your very low ones, as of NOW. The BETA of the SDK is still a BETA and therefore not an actual factual piece of software. There will be software but it's no out NOW.

When WWDC comes, I hope to see these things (this is the part you missed because you were too interested in posting your crap post) and I hope that it comes with 3G and solves a lot of the that the smart phone buyers have with the device.

If you want gimmicky features that are found in any other phone then so be it. If you want professional REAL SMART PHONE APPLICATION AND FEATURES along with the beautiful iPhone UI then keep your fingers crossed for WWDC.

Read for understanding next time please, we are both in the same boat since we want a kick butt phone, but you have that veil thingy over your eyes with your slow as molasses EDGE iPhone, and your non existent app store and beta SDK, while I have my buggy WM6 OS.

Right ... ;)

I'm sure the mobile TV implementation would be AT&T's Mobile TV. It has about 15 channels. It looks pretty gimicky. Now for the video confrencing, I hope it's iChat integrated, but I along with pretty much anyone else would be dissapointed if it was AT&T's Videoshare, which really sucks. We'll see.

Right ... ;)

I'll slow this down for the grammatically declined...

I'm guessing you meant Pseudo? Decaf there my friend, might want to invest in it. :)

You should learn to take criticism before making blanket statements such as "it can't do anything a smartphone can". When did I mention the SDK? If you read, I was in fact referring to Jailbreaking, but that's unimportant after next week I suppose.

I want real working rich content applications. Using multi-touch instead of a stylus, fully integrated iPod with video, music, podcasts, etc, ability to view PDF, Excel, Word, etc documents, get my email, browse the web without a WAP-like browser, visual voicemail and many other features a Windows-based "smart"-phone cannot do are important to me and 6million other folks. While a Windows Mobile device may be great for some, for work I have my Blackberry Curve 8320 that does the trick, but for everything else, I LOVE this iPhone and it's only going to get better.

Please make sure you read into someones replies before posting. Thanks!

Are we sure that Apple will send out 2.0 on June 9th?

No and sadly no one knows a thing other than speculation and good guesses, which is why it kinda makes me sad that the "iPhone nay-sayer" Bashers keep bringing up WWDC, the SDK Beta, and the 3G iPhone as solid proof and facts.

Not that I am pissed, but it's just sad that intelligent people bring up speculation to defend their points and do so in a condescending and sarcastic tone. We won't no a thing until the day comes, but it's more likely that the conference will center on iPhone software development and a possible release of a new and faster iPhone to run the new rich media/software that is being made for the iPhone.

I am hoping for at the very very least a full version of the SDK so that programmers can start making the 3rd party REAL software for the phone, the release of an App Store to purchase said software, and a new 3G phone to run the software. Apple can leave out all the other features if they give us a 3G iPhone that isn't as slow as the current one.

Pseudo --> sudo
AFAIK --> As Far As I Know
IMHO --> In My Honest Opinion

You get the idea, I don't do short hand that much, but I do do it some times.

Thanks for not being a jerk in this post. That is very much appreciated, I will let the decaf comment go, and as for grammar, you're wrong, it would fall under spelling, and decaf doesn't need to be capitalized.

You did mention the SDK. And by official you imply that it WILL be there when no one has any prove to support that.

I can do that unofficially now and officially next week.

The second part of the statement sums up your understand of what I and the other 5.5 billion people on the world think. Six million may love it, but the rest need improvement, and you are right, it will get better, we are just hoping for sooner or later.

Thanks for taking my advice.

Cheers!

The number was 10 million by the end of 2008, NOT 10 million during 2008. For the record, that would include the 5 million plus already sold by Apple. And with corporate America accessible now, and the iPhone to be sold in many more countries, 10m total iPhones by the end of 2008, is probably going to be surpassed easily, since they are only about 4.5m short of the goal at this point. JMO

Wrong :p

It has always been 10 million in 2008

With GPS, when it announces a new direction it may just mute audio input to the call, announce it at what volume you have set, and then return to the call.

At least, that's what I would think. There is a mute button to use already after all, and it wouldn't block out audio from the call, nor would it send "TURNHEREDAMMIT" to the caller.

Ooh, ooh ooh! I can google for acronyms too! "sudo" is short for "Super-User Do" hence, grammatical, but that's semantics I suppose but thanks for taking the higher more adult route and not posting like a jerk. You rock man and I aspire to emulate folks such as yourself!

Holy crap, I didn't realize that every man, woman and child on the PLANET had a smart phone! Wow, when did we reach such a saturation of the market? With 5.5billion having not just a cell phone, but a smart phone, I have no idea who all these vendors are selling too. Perhaps since you are so enlightened, you would share some wisdom with us common folk, myself included?

Now in all seriousness, I still think there's enough information that something big will be announced next Monday at WWDC relating to the new 3G iPhone. In all honesty and no disrespect, but I hope you are sorely disappointed in what will be revealed. :)

Now in all seriousness..

About time.

I still think there's enough information that something big will be announced next Monday at WWDC relating to the new 3G iPhone. In all honesty and no disrespect, but I hope you are sorely disappointed in what will be revealed. :)

This is the point that is being missed too. First, there IS NO 3G iPhone yet. So that has to be launched/introduced first, then we can start talking about it like it were here.

Second, I am wanting a 3G iPhone like everyone else, so my disappointment would mean the disappointment of a lot more people; even some that own iPhones now and DON'T like the fact that it runs on EDGE and is SLOW AS MOLASSES.

You can stop being imprudent now that we have both calmed down, and misguided sarcasm isn't funny or cute.

Apple can kiss my a$$ for $700.

If all it has is 32GBs and 3G then hell yes, I will shave my hairy @$$ just to see Jobs pucker up.

Wrong :p

It has always been 10 million in 2008

iphone_sales_2008.jpg

I've been wondering this to reading some posts lately, but maybe it's just me but I am still taking what was said in the keynote depicted about as including units sold + units sold in 2008. I read that as that Apple wants to have 1% market share sometime in 2008, which to me would include units sold previously to 2008.

But as others in this thread have pointed out, I perhaps am wrong. :)

About time.

Uh...

Rumors of the iPhone itself came about in Oct 2006 and we (Macrumors community at large) had speculated for months before it was officially announced that there is indeed a product called the iPhone. This sounds exactly like what we are all doing with the new 3G iPhone only now we have a basis for comparison with iPhone 1.0. Since there have been reports from AT&T officials that "3G iPhone is coming", that AT&T will complete their 3G rollout by mid-June, etc etc etc, logic dictates that the 3G iPhone will come at some future time. I would like a 3G iPhone as well (provided it comes with enough features to justify the purchase), but I will not be disappointed if it is not announced next week. EDGE is slow yes, but is very usable where I am and definitely gets the job done if I am not near a WiFi hotspot.

I'm glad we have calmed down, I can go on with the rest of my day. :)

Salute!

For the people that are saying that the iPhone will be subsidized by AT&T, how would that work for people who are buying one from the Apple store instead of from AT&T? I don't want to wait outside AT&T for mine...

A lot of subsidies are through rebates, so regardless of where you purchased it, once you activate it, you fill out some form and send in your your rebate....could make ebay sales a bit more interesting.

um isnt the ipod touch able to use 2 flash cards while the iphone can only use 1? That means the 32gb ipod touch uses 2 16gb cars while a 32gb iphone would have to use 1 32gb card. 1 32gb card is far more expensive than 2 16gb cards...............

so comparing a 32gb ipod touch to a 32gb iphone is absolutely pointless...

i really dont see a 32gb iphone any cheaper than $600.

it is a new model that we're expecting so we don't know how many flash chips it will be able to take.

logic dictates that the 3G iPhone will come at some future time.

Agreed!

I would like a 3G iPhone as well (provided it comes with enough features to justify the purchase),

Double agree!

But I will not be disappointed if it is not announced next week.

Triple agree! I have waited this long, even if it doesn't come until next year I will be okay with it.

I'm glad we have calmed down, I can go on with the rest of my day. :)

Quadruple agree!

$699 would only make sense if it was subsidized (which it could be).

I concur. If AT&T does subsidize the pricing, this is ok. I'm intending to switch to AT&T and get the new iphone when it comes out, but I'll be getting them for myself and my wife, and I probably won't be doing this if they do have those price points!

No Way

I don't think for a second apple will increase the price of an entry level iPhone; i also don't think they'll sell a lower spec'd iphone (other than size of ram) at a lower price, this would dilute the brand into 2 tiers which apple would never do (IMHO). I think there will be a 3G iphone at the same price point as the current one (perhaps even cheaper?), and the only difference between the models will be RAM.

Just my 2 penneth.... :D
