I would be very happy with any of those prices, as here in the UK we always seem to have to pay a premuim!
8GB iPod Touch = £199 = $390
16GB iPod Touch = £269 = $527
32GB iPod Touch = £329 = $645

8GB iPhone = £269 = $527
16GB iPhone = £329 = $645

We seem to have a £60 or £70 difference when doubling the size, so the 32GB iPhone could potentially cost
32GB iPhone = £399 = $782

Sucks to be us lol!
Same here in sweden. For us here, example:

1 USD is now worth around 6 SEK.
Apple way: 1 USD = 10 SEK (!)

Apple product in US: USD 599

Apple product in Sweden: SEK 5999

Apple product in Sweden (US conversion): USD 1000

Should be:

Apple product in US pricing: USD 599

Apple product in Sweden: SEK 3600

Totally blows. Lucky me I've got a dad who travels a lot to the US. :D

This is my worry. That there will be a 32GB model (good), that I it will be ever-so-slightly overpriced and that I will end up getting that model (bad) :D:p

Tethering, tethering, tethering.

I want tethering.

How about a way to save and open a file on the iphone?

Enough complaining...

I'm excited for
- 3G
- Better camera resolution
- Better speakerphone
- C'mon tethering!!!

Not adding much new here, only to echo the sentiment that those prices are madness if they really want the iPhone to take off now that it will be properly spec'd and distributed to do so.

If prices are true I see Apple producing less 32GB models, of course, since 16GB model will sell tons more.

Uk iphone prices

Im sure i speak for a lot of people in the UK when i say this.

As from today, looking at both the US and UK apple store site (and i know that these phone arent for sale now) but an 1st gen 8gb iphone in the states us $399, which today = £203.

On the UK site its £269.

So i can hardly wait to see what happens when the new phone is launched in the UK and we all have to drop our pants and bend over.
:(

You know what I think, people? I think we're overlooking THE most important issue: battery life! All the glitz, glamour and high tech features in the world that the 2nd gen iPhone will surely bring next week won't do you a damned bit of good if Apple hasn't improved the battery life DRASTICALLY -- especially when you consider the battery is not user-replaceable!

That said, a $499 entry price point is excellent! Speaking for all we Apple elitists I'd say such a move would prevent the iPhone from suffering the same demise as the Moto Razr -- and that debacle involved making it so affordable that every Tom, Dick and Harry had the same freakin' phone everywhere you looked! A $499 and up price-to-play -- with no freakin' subsidies or discounts, of course -- would protect the clout of exclusivity that we cherish so very very dearly.

I'm also hoping that Apple doesn't wimp out and appease all the homosexuals and girlie-types by issuing it in a bunch of cheesy, fruity-flavored pastel colors 'n crap...UNLESS they maintain the same brushed aluminum material/finish. Even then i think it's an unnecessary and wasteful move. So if the dragqueens of the world want fruit that's what covers and cases are for!!

I'd pay $699 for an aluminum 32GB iPhone with true GPS functionality (not some gimmicky 3rd party app) and a front-facing video camera in a heartbeat!

Im with you on this point. I dont want a phone that does all these fancy things if the battery only lasts a day! No point whatso ever.

Rumor is and maybe true.. The 2nd gen iPhone a.k.a. 3G iPhone will have a solarpower screen.. makes sense since Apple paten the cell thing, and also Jobs has bin complaining and was stated when the iPhone first came out "There was no 3G because the battery life wouldn't hold" more then likely there will be a solar powered screen. + I trust Apple a lot. They never made crappy products and as I have heard from many rumored sights the battery life actually lasts longer then the edge iPhone. So I wouldn't really get mad about that. P.s. Just hope for the best....

Hhmm, well yes there is a patent for this solar powered, behind the screen iphone or laptop, but if you read further the stories all say that this wont happen with this iphone as the technology to really make it viable (eg, high current, solar power to actual watts energy) are only available on the space station, so very high end and expensive. It may happen in the next 5 years, but not in a weeks time.

Since the current UK prices are:

8GB iPod Touch - £199
16GB iPod Touch - £269
32GB iPod Touch - £329

8GB iPhone - £269
16GB iPhone - £329

I guessing if there is a 32GB iPhone it will be around £379-399, and if a non-3G version of the 8GB iPhone is released it could be £199-239

Wow....just......wow.

I'm a homosexual man, and I didn't request the iPhone in a 'cheesy, fruity flavoured pastel colour'

but maybe now I will, just to piss you off.

OMGZ STEVE!!!!!1 PLS CAN I HV DA IPHONE IN MAUVE? PPUHHLLLEEAAASSEEE

First of all, its the 2nd generation iPhone.

Second, You'll get HSDPA for sure, kiddo.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

yikes. WAAAAAAY too pricey. And I was going to buy one (my second iPhone). Oh well. No biggie. Still thrilled with mine.

$700 for a disposable phone is outrageous. Stop drinking the Kool Aid guys! I'm outraged that some of you are even considering it. People were freaking out about the PS3 being what was it $400 or $500 dollars. Think of the technology in a ps3! Don't give me this yeah a $300 price jump for 16Gigs is reasonable, I should slap you.

I vote same prices if not less. If you think about it the price to make a ps3 is way more that they actually sell it. They make more money on software. Now that we have an App store in which apple makes a profit off of every single sale (minus free) they can afford to lower the price point to make the phone more attractive. Plus when you factor in contract supplements its a no brainer.

I didn't make my post clear enough! ;) I was in no way endorsing the price of $699! It is very steep for a phone especially when you sign into 18/24 month contracts! I was basically stating how Jobs would sell it to the fans by breaking it down into individual devices and capabilities.

And to be honest... once he does that (along with his flashy presentation skills) the RDF will kick in and I'll be onboard!! Then i'll be back on here spewing rubbish under the influence of some serious cool aid!! :D

If I could replace my current SE K800 (SMS, MMS, Video recording, Decent camera) and my aging but excellent iPaq 4150 (Notes, Calender, spreadsheet/Word processing) then I would pay £400 for an iphone given that I'd also get Data, a good browser, a phone with more mins/txts, possibly GPS and a damn good remote control for my Mac Mini media centre!

If it's subsidised and around £200, I'll buy 2 - one for me, one for the missus. But again, she'd expect the same phone features as her 'free' K810

Well just as Delicious-Apple points out that Jobs will point out the device does include a lot of things. With the iPhones large 3,5 inch screen it could do really well as a GPS unit for the car, if GPS will be included.

iPhone 3G+GPS+landscape mode=nice car device. I dont know about US but in Sweden a decent GPS device costs about $500.

A good GPS runs around there. But do you REALLY think that the new iPhone is going to be top of the line GPS. Im guessing not. Just from the past I never really saw the prices go up. This isn't a really good comparison but look at the new MBP, more power to it, feature changes, and it was released at the same price. GPS will be nice but you also have to think of the inconvenience that it will have. Where do you doc your phone? how will you get/make calls when ur being directed?
Just my though

For those complaining about the UK price of the iphone, the uk price includes VAT. So you are really comparing

£229 vs £203. admittedly it is still more expensive than the U.S. price but not as much as you think.

Fair enough, and a good point. I dont feel as bad now!:D

I think Apple being "forward leaning" on the price has several aspects. It allows price points to be maintained even as leading edge flash is added in future upgrades. It allows bundling some Apple provided services in the price itself thus lowering the need for a monthly recurring cost. Apple clearly plans updates after initial release of the hardware, so the price should be seen as a prepayment against a 24 month service contract from Apple on "free" hardware, plus network access fees from the carriers themselves, albiet negotiated at lower rates from Apple itself.

Once you look at it that way what you end up with is a cost of ownership of a "bleeding edge multi-function device" of about $80 a month all inclusive.

Not cheap, but truly unprecedented price performance capability.

Rocketman

You're prolly right, the iphone wont make the BEST GPS device, but a fair one though. If you receive a call whilst using GPS there's something called loud speaker. I dont think it'll be a problem.

I can argue with that. Take the 64 GB SSD for the MacBook Air. If his current formula follows, then the 64 GB would only be $400 more then an 8GB drive? Such as a flash drive? No way. At some point it takes a climb, and I think it does after 16 GB. Apple only has it a hundred dollars more because there making a lot of money off of the iPod touch, so adding the extra expense still makes them earn money. That's my opinion.

When apple starts offering the 32GB and 64GB as standard, people will complain about premiums for 128 or 256GB. Someone will ALWAYS be dissatisfied, or just feel a need to complain.
