I really hope apple sort out the camera on the the iphone, dont need many more megapixels but definitely needs a XENON FLASH, and better video recording. They might as well if theyre addidng GPS and trying to beat N95 for features. Guarantee those two additions along with 3G will make the thing fly off the shelves in europe at least.. a little flash section will not ruin the back of the iphone...please!:)

WHATEVER color it is, whatever material they used, whatever, whatever, whatever ... give me the damn real GPS and AIM, ICQ, Skype ... and please keep data plan with the same price of $20

... and I will be happy for the next two years... wait thats what I said last June

I believe the pastic back, they need it for the GPS, 3G and for the 802.11n antenas, none of them like metal.

Thicker would be better to get a bigger batery.

If this was the real new iPhone, wouldn't Apple have sent the take down letters already?

This photo has been floating around for weeks and Apple has made no stink about it.

Reember when the original iphone was abotu to be introduced and it was revealed that the case was going to be metal and glass, instead of plastic? i think these are just the prototypes. i think that the entire back will be silver metal like other apple products, and be slightly thinner. That will be the last minute final though. I think apple should put these prototypes out for testing with different colors on the back to see who is leaking stuff.

All I care is that the iPhone will be 3G by December 27th, 2008. That is the date my Verizon contract ends. I think my wife and I already decided that we are both going to get iPhone's and make that our Christmas gifts to each other. Should be fantastic!

GPS isn't a huge game changer for me. Nice to have, but not a must have. Especially if it eats up battery life big time. I am generally very good with knowing where I am, so the current Google Maps features cover what I need.

I think Apple has realized that if they ask someone to take pictures down, they might as well just confirm that it's a real product. Better to just lay low and let people speculate.

What exactly is, "slightly thicker." It could mean anything.
This is the only thing I don't like... I'd like to think that like the iPod, every iteration of iPhone will be thinner than the previous. But I guess adding GPS + 3G and maintaining current battery life is an okay excuse. But next year, it better slim down!

They also need to add rubber side grips to the iPhone. I can not tell you how many times my friends have dropped their iPhone when their hands were sweaty.

WHOO HOO!!! 1,000th post!!!

Well, that seals it for me. I say this because Engadget is a legitimate website so they wouldnt just lie about this. I think they are right and I cant wait!

price for data?

I hope the price for data doesn't increase...does anyone know what plans might be rolling out for 3G data?

On the negative side, if they do thrust all these features in there's no way this isn't going to become a "pro" model which, if we trust apples other price models, is going to cost... alot...

Would be hell of a phone though. Though if this will go for like $899 id personally rather stick with a "nano" sized model without the fancy pancy.

On the other hand if they just replace the current model with this one I'll go buy one this instant :D

I sure hope they use something similar to my black Macbook over the shiny black backing. I understand the necessity for plastic, but if it's glossy, it's gonna look like hell really quickly. Perhaps this means that the iPod touch can finally adopt the brushed metal back. It don't need no stinkin' 3G/GPS/Connection to the Big Giant Head.

Well, as aesthetics actually mean something to me (when talking about a phone) I wouldn't buy that God awful looking POS even if the 32GB version was $200 and if I did I'd send it some company to put anodized aluminum on it. Plastic is lame, why do you think Apple doesn't make ANY pro models out of plastic. Heck, the Pro laptop has been all metal for, what, 4 years now?

And with Greenpeace ready to turn on the Hate Apple machine at any second and Al Gore sitting on the board I can't imagine they would create something that's *LESS* environmentally friendly than the previous version...

GPS and battery usage

Actually, I think GPS technology has come a long way in just the last year or so. It used to be, every in-car or hand-held GPS unit I saw went through a battery charge (or set of batteries) in 1-2 hours, tops.

There are some newer, lower power-consumption chipsets for GPS out now. Many of the units on the market use a chip called the SIRF that's like this, and gets a "fix" on satellites far more quickly than older chipsets did. A few models just hitting shelves now use something supposedly even newer and better than that.

The Nextel phones I've used all have built-in GPS capabilities and I never saw an excessive battery drain with any of them ... and that's generally OLDER technology. (Nextel products don't go through a whole lot of serious updates or revisions. It took Motorola until last year to finally offer a single model you'd actually consider "thin".)

Location of Power button

I really hope they would take it off the top and place it on either side. Its so much more natural to turn it off with your index finger the way I hold it at least. This way I would actually turn it off/put it to sleep more often instead of randomly calling people I touch on screen.
