Well booger. Not that this changes my decision to get an iPhone though.

Unless I hear something about the plastic greatly improving cell reception.

Looking forward to it. I'll be buying the more expensive model AND I won't be complaining if they lower the price 2 months later. :p

Not a big fan of the glossy black plastic back, but I get the antenna disliking metal part.

Hopefully they will have somewhere in the preferences a way to turn on/off GPS independently. Saves battery, and don't always need it.

July. Perfect. My contract expires July 19. A perfect half-birthday gift to myself.

The iPhone WILL NOT move to a glossy black back like that.
As others have said and I have said repeatedly, Apple is moving everything to aluminum. They're not going to move the iPhone away from aluminum.

If its nice, and on the cheaper side, I am very interested. I love the idea of GPS and 3G. Nothing about camera pixelage? Oh well. Basically it comes down to flash size, pixel amountage, what it looks like, and how much better it is then my iPhone now. It there isn't much more to it, than it won't be worth it for me. Can't wait to find out what's really coming. These aren't really details, theres not much that anyone couldn't say, theres nothing really of detail here. Oh well. It will be good.

Antennas be damned.

Don't know what the big deal is. The MBA, MBPro, iPhone all have antennas and that hasn't stopped apple from making them aluminum and I really haven't had any problems with Wi-Fi reception in my laptop or reception on my iPhone.

Me thinks they've got some insanely intelligent design engineers over there in Cupertino...

Gps

The 3 features I'm looking for are:
3G
Improved camera and MPEG Video Capture
GPS

It'll be interesting to see what AT&T will do with the GPS. Will they charge us another $10.00 per month to use it?

This is great news, but why would they change the back to that ugly plastic? I like how the iPhone looks now. I am glad about GPS and 3G coming soon though.

July? Damn.. only time will tell.

IIRC, the antenna in those models loops around the LCD panel, so its OK to put it into a metal enclosure if the antenna is huge. Meanwhile, the antenna in the phone cant be all that big, so its important to have part of it plastic.

You know that little black plastic area on your iPhone? That's where the antennas go. And as previously stated, 3G, 802.11n, and GPS don't play nice with metal enclosures.

And I don't know if you've been keeping track, but people often complain about the wifi/cellular reception on both the MBP and the iPhone compared to the competition. Such is the price of fashion.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3A109a Safari/419.3)

I really need gps but don't like the shiny black look guess I will just have to wait until they are in stores totouch and feel

That's right. Remember all the negative comments regarding the iPod Nano. When people saw it shrunk and was more square they commented how fat and ugly it was and a lot of people were saying Nnoooooo, can't be true. Then they saw it in the stores played around with it, touched it, etc. and fell in love with it.

Also, Apple needs to make slight redesigns to the outside package, not for GPS antennas etc., but to differentiate it from all the iPhone wannabees making their phones of similar layout and colors. :p

Chrome volume buttons?

The Engadget article claims that the volume control buttons are now chrome... yet they're still black in the associated photo.

Couldn't the back be ceramic, not plastic? Didn't I read something about Apple and ceramics? That would be pretty cool.

GPS would be great. I guess a little thicker is OK, but if they can get it lighter, maybe via ceramics or carbon fiber, that would be a big plus.

Size people size!

Can we kiss an 8GB model goodbye?

Are we to expect a 16GB and 32GB models only?

What happens to the $400US price point?

Maybe its not plastic, maybe its poilished anodized black aluminium!

Either way I'll be getting one :D

I guess

Thicker for better battery for both the GPS and 3G tech.

Plastic shell to allow for much better reception for more sophisticated aerials/antennae for GPS and 3G.

Maybe a better camera?

NO 8 gig model, starts at 16GB.

Wireless headset option as well?

The Engadget article claims that the volume control buttons are now chrome... yet they're still black in the associated photo.

Engadget also never claimed the "associated photo" is real. They simply reported that what they have been hearing is similar to what has been previously reported by iPodObserver, and thus Macrumors (and Engadget, albeit with a large question mark over it) provided it as a possibility.

You say that now but wait 'til the price is dropped... :D

Yes, but unlike the people who complained, I've been alive long enough to know that price drops happen, and never at an opportune time for the person who just bought.

Working in customer service, I kow that the customer is always WRONG!!!!!!!

Their latest product, the MacBook Air is thin and aluminum and now Apple is doing the opposite and adding thickness with plastic?
