i think what the OP meant was why would someone go out and spend money on a brand new phone that you know isn't as good as the iphone..

1) cost
2) no need for iphone
3) apple hatred.

that pretty much sums it up.

its like saying why would people go out and spend money on a brand new honda when you can buy a porsche.

1) cost
2) no need for porsche
3) porsche hatred.

hatred? why would that have anything to do with it? Just because I don't buy something doesn't' mean I hate it. It just means I prefer something else.

If I buy a blackberry - that doesn't automatically make me hate every other phone nor does it make me a RIMBoy

I own an iPhone 3gs - my first. I wouldn't for a second say I hate blackberries or that I am an iPhone fanboy either. The iPhone is the device I chose because after weighing the positives AND NEGATIVES, it serves my purpose best.

My post came off too strong. Sorry about that and the unfortunate poor spelling.

I don't think of the iPhone as the end all, be all of all things wonderful but I do consider it a decent product that others, in the market for a phone, should consider. Really nothing more or nothing less.

What I'm reading is others do consider the iPhone in their decision making process, but choose other products for the various reasons pointed out to me above.

Asked and answered.

Again, I suppose I should have placed more thought into the wording of my post. I apologize.

Nope. There are phones out there that are equally as good or better for some consumers and I respect that

The reverse however has happened to me. I whip out my iPhone or I'm caught using it and I get the weird looks, some go on to say stuff like "iPhone sucks" "iPhone drone" "why waste money, why not buy a proper phone" etc and cite the general lack of 'specs' that majority judge cellphone ability/experience by

That is so frustrating, because you know that 90% of that stems from jealousy or FUD.

Maybe this guy doesn't even know iPhone exists.

Where do you live?

Maybe because to get the minimum basic features I need on AT&T for the iPhone is $89/month while on Verizon it would only cost $59/month for my phone. And to top that off I get much more reliable service, I actually get cell coverage at all places where I frequently am (there is a popular vacation spot where my family goes in NH where AT&T has no service), I can call all of my family members without going into my minutes (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are all on Verizon, so free calling). I don't see how you could look at me on a train using my new enV2 in disdain, especially when you don't even know the situation that I am in.

Now, I would love to have an iPhone, but for me it is not practical at all. I would have to switch over to AT&T myself and pay for the plan and phone on my own which is not all that practical for a freshman in college (I am currently getting a free ride on my family's plan). And on top of that, switching to AT&T would mean losing all of those benefits I currently have on Verizon (better service, more coverage, unlimited minutes to most of the people I call, cheaper monthly plan).

I really don't understand how you can look at somebody with disdain when you do not even know what situation they're in. You appear as a shallow person if you look down on people just because they don't have the money/need to get an iPhone, I highly suggest that you rethink your way of viewing other people.

I think each phone has its uses depending on the user, so I don't think the iPhone is for everybody. The BB is probably better for business users. Some of the non-smartphones that just play music or have keyboards for texting are better for the kids. I wanted to have a small laptop I could carry in my pocket, so the iPhone was perfect for ME.

My wife hates the heat senstitive touch screen, she likes the features, will use Safari over her media net browser, but has a very hard time navigating and using the screen.

She could have had an iPhone but chose the LG Dare because it works better for her for most things. She still cant figure out why i cant receive the MMS she sends to my fancy shmancy iPhone

I think this thread is an exmaple of why apple fans are though of as snobby idiot who do not have a clue.

While the iPhone is a good phone it does have some huge draw backs to it. I personally will not get an iPhone because I feel it fails at being a phone first. It seem to me to be more of an iPod, mobile web browser first, phone 2nd. I want it to be a phone first everything else 2nd.

Also some people want a physical keyboard over the touch screen keyboard.

Another reason is the iPhone is the ONLY AT&T phone that you can not get insurance on.

From what I heard from multiple people who used both the iPhone and the blackberry is as a productivity tool the iPhone is fair from being the best. Both windows Mobile and the Blackberry are better productivity phones. They will say for mobile web browsing and a media player the iPhone king.

haha
There's a ton of people who probably would get an iPhone if it came to their network. Not everyone gets coverage on AT&T.

And how do you know that said person didn't consider an iPhone? I'm personally pretty loyal to Apple in general, but I'm not going to sit here and say that all other manuf.'s phones are crap either.

I really can't say I walk down the street and pay that close of attention to what kind of phone everyone has either.

Except this thread is an example of how that stereotype is flawed (but then again, aren't most). It seems to be clear from the majority of the posts in this thread (most of which are by "fan-boys") that most do not share this feeling with the OP, and that the attitude of the select few reflects upon us as a whole.

uhhhh idk maybe because the minimum of 60 bucks a month for a plan???

$45 for me (including data). Working on making it even less than that. :p

But I'd be paying that with a BB or any other smart phone...

For me, I got the iPhone because I got tired of carrying around a camera, ipod and cell phone all the time.

With the iphone I have all of those, plus a compass, gps, maps, voice recorder and games!

Ok so I am a little wrong. The first post in this tread just extends that sterotype people see of apple users.

There are way to many of those out there.

in my OP I listed reason why people do not want an iPhone and how things with Windows Mobile or BB are better in some ways.
I also listed the reason why I will not buy an iPhone. I plan on getting an iPod touch which gets me almost everything but the Phone part. Like I said to me the iPhone fails at being a phone first. I want my cell to be a phone first everything else 2nd.

Alright, not really distain, but with some confusion? I know there are many options in the higher end cell phone department but honestly, I don't get those who purchase new phones and don't really even take the time to consider the iPhone.

I see them all around my on the train ride to work each morning (I commute from Encinitas to San Diego). Sparkling new phones, but not the iPhone.

Possibly I'm the one who needs to take the blinders off, but really, if I wasn't an iPhone user and I was definitely in the market for a new phone- why wouldn't I purchase the iPhone?

Less rhetorical than it sounds, I'd really like to know.

How do you know they didn't take the time to consider the iPhone? How do you know they didn't try it out and just didn't like it? Just because you have a certain preference doesn't mean that every other cell phone user out there has to agree with you. If you look down on anyone for a superficial reason such as which phone they decide to use, then there are some serious issues you need to deal with.

Can't say it bothers me on what phone others decide to use.

Agreed. It is a phone for crying out loud. How shallow are you, braddick, for looking down on someone who doesn't use an iPhone? For some people, a phone other than the iPhone suits their needs, fits their budget, ect. better than the iPhone.

No, but I would look at u confused and wondering why some people are so shallow.

I don't talk to people unless they have, or are looking to acquire, an iPhone 3GS. That's correct, I don't talk to people with normal 3G ones.

My girlfriend tried the iphone and hated it. Then again, she didn't really know/care to know how to fully use it and all of its features. All she knew was that it was harder for her to text on the on-screen keyboard than it was on a blackberry. That's all that mattered to her and that's why it doesn't make sense for her to have an iphone. Do you really want EVERYONE to have an iphone anyways?
