Does anyone know if it's possible to use a 'strand' of commands... like "Play artist _______ on Shuffle." I tried it in the car, but it didn't seem to work. I'm more asking if it would be possible to do this. I mean, I'm sure it is since you can call specific numbers of a contact (Call ______ mobile)

I wish there was an easier way to use voice control. I think it would be awesome if they added a small button somewhere on the phone that activates it instantly, but isn't easy to press accidentally.

I would love to navigate the iPod of the phone easier with my voice. It's so much quicker to double tap the headphone button to skip a song than it is to hold down, wait for the beeps, say "next", and then wait for it to confirm.

what about the time? i can ask my mac "what time is it" but doesn’t work with the iPhone. anyone know the command?

I hope this is a feature which will get some work in the future; it has a lot of potential.

You never know, it might even work on the next software upgrade! :D

Very good!!!!
Mind you the US obsession with a blinding white smile is gaining ground in old blighty. God help us, another element of american cultural hegemony we've imported to the UK.
Having said that I love the US!!!!
Maybe we should start a thread with photos of peoples smiles? Guess which country they come from.

Good idea, but you'd probably be hard pressed to tell the difference these days.

Now that dental bleaching has reached the UK as well, we can now all blind people with our superficial smiles ;)

Maybe it's because I'm British, but my iPhone doesn't understand me.

For example, whenever I ask it to play the next song it calls my dentist.

I've had some very interesting conversations with people today!

First... loved the dentist for brits comment but, in actual response... there's a setting for English (United Kingdom)... is that set default in the UK?

It's in Settings -> General -> International -> Voice Control.

I'm actually curious to hear back if it was already set to that and if it wasn't, did it help at all to switch to it?

That would be awesome. Here are some commands they should add.

What time is it?
What is the temperature? (tells you the temp of your default location)
Launch voice memos (and then commands like "record", "stop", "save" and "new)
What is ? times ? (calculator commands!)

Commands for your wireless bill and usage would be nice. You could ask what your current usage is, how much your bill is, and you could tell the phone to pay your bill.

This is actually a feature. As soon as it hears a British accent, it assumes you need a dentist.

Sorry, couldn't resist!:D

That is THE funniest thing I have ever read on this site! I'm laughing so hard I'm sweating.....and I have nothing against the British.

I hadn't noticed that setting. I've checked, and it was already set to English (United Kingdom), but thanks for the suggestion!

Voice control works alright for me - as an Englishman - but on the occasions when I confuse it I find that putting on an American accent works a treat!- not that I want to do that too much in public of course :)

if you just say "play" and nothing else, it starts playing where you left you ipod at when you last paused it,

Does anyone's actually work when trying the "Play" "Artist" "xxxxx" because...for me, this does not work, at all - nor does the album command.

You silly silly boy, all Apple products have been able to do this before now, but they did it telepathically!!

I'd love to see speech-to-text abilities...knock out a text message via voice control? AT&T would love it, everyone would be on an unlimited plan

but if your going to talk to communicate with them in the first place, even though it would be written in a text as you speak.....isn't that the same as making a phone call and just talking to someone? Isn't the whole point of a text to communicate without talking? I mean, if I'm ready to talk and talk just to 'write' a text, well then I might as well just call...

Mine worked great for awhile... something must have happened when I synced and added the rest of my music, because I had the same problem. Synced with itunes again and was all fixed.

so if a contracts has two numbers and u just say name without which number it doesnt read it?

and is there a command to play a specific song??

it asks you HOME OR MOBILE (or other) first couple of times, and then after this it intelligently picks one based on your previous choices, if this is the wrong choice then just say 'nope' and start over...

ok so why when i say a name let say 'mom' it reads 'home' wtf?

Voice dialing works great for me, but music does not. I can "Play Music" fine, but I can't play artist, album, or playlist. All I get is "No match found." Should music control work from anywhere, or do I have to be in the iPod app first?

You can? Um, may I ask how?

Voice control is working great for me. I want more.

I'm sure it'll be a matter of time till someone figures out how to launch apps with this. Pull up Pandora in the car, etc.

For what it's worth, I've had success with it so far as well, and most of the commands I've thrown at it were music-based. The only issues I had were - before looking in my manual - you can't say "Play song ____", which I'm sure there's some technical reason for, but I hope is coming in 3.0.1 or something. Being able to play an artist or album is great - and in most cases close enough - but it would be fantastic to be able to call up a specific song.

Where can I find the commands for other languages? I have my phone set to Japanese but I don't have a Japanese manual since I bought my phone in the U.S.

It took a while, but I tracked down the User's Guide in Japanese for the iPhone, Apple's official list of commands should be in there.

http://manuals.info.apple.com/ja_JP/iPhone_User_Guide_JP.pdf

In the French version, the list of commands is in Chapter 2, starting around page 44. I would think it would be in Chapter 2 in the Japanese version also, but since I don't speak Japanese I didn't check.

If anyone else is wondering about voice commands or other iPhone information for the language your iPhone is in...

* first, go to the version of Apple's website for your country/language (if you don't know it, go to http://www.apple.com and choose it at the bottom of the page)

* then, click on the "Support" tab (or whatever it's called in your language), on the top of the page by the search bar

* finally, under iPhone, click on the link for the User's guide; it should be the first link, at least as I post this. If not, you should be able to track down that language's user guide from there (if not maybe you shouldn't be putting it in that language. ;) )

Hope this helps!
