Read my post again. Apple has GENERALLY not been forthcoming on specs for the iPhone. You're right that they do it when it suits them (which is rarely). The Mac Pro is irrelevant to that discussion.

What's relevant to this thread is whether Apple will discuss the amount of RAM in the next iPhone. They've never done so in the past. It has NEVER SUITED THEM to do so for the iPhone. Never. Anything you post that is not overt Apple marketing for the iPhone discussing the amount of RAM in the iPhone is an automatic fail. You get half-credit if you can find something from Apple discussing the amount of RAM in the iPad, Apple Watch, or AppleTV. Quarter credit if you find something for the iPod. Good luck.
Not interested in answering your question. The point raised was that Apple don’t reveal specs. That’s a falsehood.
Good day.

You can buy models with more than 16GB if you'd like.
Congratulations, Apple will deign to allow the peasantry to pay more to avoid 2011 levels of storage. How awesome of Apple! That's so great!

Never mind the fact that basically EVERY other flagship had been at 32GB for...um...a few years....

Yeah, Apple's iPhone has gone from being groundbreaking to being an utter disaster. It really does suck in comparison to the Galaxy flagships and the like. And this is coming from a guy who waited for hours in line to get the first iPhone.

Let's just admit it, Apple has been hijacked by a bunch of mindless wallstreet bean counters like Tim Cook, who care more about their ASP's than whether the phone they produce sucks or not.

You can also purchase from another vendor. Sounds like iPhone isn't for you.

And again....you completely miss my point.

If the base iMac came with a 256GB slow hard drive from 2011, BUT they offered 'upgrades' generously allowing people to pay more for parts from this century...is that fair? Especially when nearly EVERY competing phone is using the latest hardware for their base models.

Apple is better than this. The 'premium' iPhone shouldn't come with 16GB storage, that's just downright insulting. When your phone can only record a few minutes of video before it becomes full, perhaps it should come with more storage.

If the cost of moving from 16GB to 32GB was $20 that would be one thing. But it literally would only cost Apple PENNIES to move to a 32GB NAND chip. Pennies! For a $650 phone, that's not just a ripoff, it's an insult to the intelligence of iPhone lovers everywhere.

I didn't miss your point, I'm just not going to be outraged about premium pricing on Apple products. If we were talking about medicine or flour or baby formula I'd be willing to debate whether the pricing model is ethical. This is a premium brand with premium prices and large margins (and as ubiquitous as smart phones are they are certainly not necessary to anyone's survival). If we don't like the pricing strategy we can choose from any number of manufacturers utilizing Android.

At top tier prices? One nice surprise for those who wanted the iPhone SE was its unexpectedly low price. But a different strategy for Apple would be to charge a premium for smaller iPhones with the same features, since fitting the premium features into a smaller package is more difficult/expensive.

Right. They can't offer a low end option of a large phone, or a high end option of a smaller phone. I guess the laws of the universe prevent that?

They could offer various 'budget' and 'pro' options regardless of the size. Forcing anyone who wants the highest end specs to also have the biggest screen is just forcing buyers into a box. And it's completely unnecessary.

This opens a golden opportunity for Apple competitors. Offer smaller phones with the highest end specs and the world will beat a path to their door. Once Apple sees the truckloads of cash that they are missing out on, Apple will mend their ways. But if the competition's little premium phone has little demand then Apple will know they made the right decision.

A premium brand...with cheap, non-premium specs that Samsung was beating years ago. I can understand lower RAM, lower res displays, etc. but storage?!? It's such a basic aspect of a phone, there's simply no excuse for Apple to still be selling $650 phones with 2011 levels of storage. It's breathtaking!

Unless I'm missing some super amazing compression algorithm that lets Apple use disk space more efficiently (hint, there isn't one), Apple is sorely losing to most the Android phones on this count.

Specs are the means, user experience is the end. Apple has a tendency to skimp on specs, but they are somehow able to put everything together in a way such that the end product isn't any inferior to competing products with superior specs.

That's what makes Apple so awesome, and so irritating in my book.

Premium brand doesn't necessitate the biggest and best components available.

Enjoy your Android phone.

So you have to spend more, and go up a screen size in order to get new features on the 7... okay. Why doesn't Apple just release an iPhone 7 Plus only and forget about the 4.7 model till next year.

Is it really a new concept that if you spend more you get more?

2GB is plenty. For more demanding games use a real mac.

I don't think anyone who suggests a Mac for demanding games can really be trusted.

They talk about the processor and speed in comparison to last generation, not in actual specs. They've never said "It has 1GB of RAM." Instead they say, "It's 2.4x faster than the previous model."

Big difference. Again, it's not about actual specs but rather performance. That's why they call it the "A8 processor" and not the "1.3GHz processor."
Apple absolutely excel in hiding the reality of their tech from the public, just like they hide the reality of their business practices. If they were actually honest about these things, they wouldn't be doing nearly as well. Can you imagine how bad it would look in their advertising if they had Johnny Ives saying things like: "Because we felt that you wanted the best performance in your device, we brought in the latest 1.3 Ghz dual core processor, and 2gb of ram to keep all your apps ready at any time." Or maybe "Our phones have the latest 720p displays, to keep your images sharp and beautiful." Apple would be a laughing stock if they did that. But, that's the reality of their tech.

Instead they hide what their products are really like, with meaningless terminology. When they say something like "Because we felt that you wanted the best performance in your device, we brought in the latest A9 processor, and doubled the ram to keep all your apps ready at any time," it's really nothing more than marketing BS.

they convince themselves that iPhone was better than android devices because the lack o RAM, gonna take some time to assimilate it...
Apple is great at creating cognitive dissonance in its users.

But here is the thing, Apple ISN'T a premium brand anymore, it just pretends to be. In reality it is a mid range brand with premium pricing. It is their clever marketing that has convinced the public that they are more than they really are.

That used to be true. But after a year with my iPhone 6 Plus and it's disgusting 1GB of RAM, the phone is nearly unusable, it is incredibly slow and frustrating to use. My Nexus 5X, which cost less than half the price, has more RAM, a display that is just as good, and runs circles around my iPhone.

As a software developer I can attest to the fact that smart developers can work around RAM constraints. We've been doing it for a long time and we've gotten really good at it.

But storage...? You really can't get around a measly 16GB of storage in the year 2016. If this were some cheap $200 Android phone, that would be one thing. But this is a supposedly 'premium' $650 phone in the year 2016. This should be a hint to Apple: If you are making a phone with a 4K camera, and it goes from being completely empty to completely full in just a few minutes of recording video.....you're doing it wrong.

Hopefully Apple follow's Samsung's lead and finally moves to a 32GB base model. Pretty soon, they'll just have to jump to a 64GB base model, seriously.

I get the criticism about ram. I don't understand why the iPhone 6 didn't come with 2gb of ram (especially for the plus model), when the Apple TV 4th gen and the iPad mini 4 did. Apple tends to provide pretty standardised specs across its devices to make it easier for developers to target a wide breadth of devices. I suspect one reason might have been that Apple simply didn't have enough ram to provide each iPhone 6 with 2gb of ram, and so they had to settle for one, but I agree it's a baffling move either way.

However, I don't quite get the outcry over the storage, especially when the 64gb and 128gb models already exist. If you know that 16gb won't suffice, then get the 64gb model. Nobody is pointing a gun to your head and forcing you to choose the model with the least storage, unlike ram (since all iPhone 6 models came with just 1gb of ram, so you were screwed regardless of which model you chose; it's not like I could have opted to pay more for more ram).

If Apple does move to a 32gb model, my guess is that they will do so only when they are sure that users already on a 64gb iOS device cannot downgrade to a 32gb model (eg: I am already using more than 40gb of storage on my 64gb iPhone 6S+, so a 32gb model will not suffice for me. If Apple introduces 32gb and 128gb models, I see myself being "forced" to select the 128gb option over the 32gb one).

This will ensure that Apple don't lose their precious margins.

2gb on 4.7 is sufficient. However it doesn't hurt to add more ram to it as well. iPhones are supposed to be premium phone. So with premium price there should be premium hardware.

There are mid priced android phones that have 3gb ram.

And why do I have to buy a bigger screened phone just to get those features?

Not all of us want a 5.5 iPhone.

well all rumours pointing to 32GB starting base at last

Which is exactly why no one forces the consumer to purchase iPhones, it's completely non-obligatory. And not every one agree's with you.
this is the thing if people are that mad which many people are moaning on here then don't buy the next iphone. 6s plus is still a top 5 device even a year old. the iphone 7 will still likely sell millions and millions even if the sales have declined. Which you would think it may do...but same people angry about the headphone jack will suddenly buy the phone if the camera is amazing/becomes waterproof and adds a new feature we aren't aware of.

Exactly. Everyone is mad at the future and the future has not been written yet. Change can be difficult and I understand everyone's frustrations. There are still options with the 6s being a great phone for years to come and the SE is also another great contender as well. So the user has options, no one is forcing anyone to upgrade to the iPhone 7. Even if it's not deleted by this version, it will be by the 2017 iPhone.

But in any case, Bluetooth will be the standard. We are transitioning into a wired free world. I too use the 3.5 Jack, but I fully understand change is imminent and will be for the greater, some just struggle to adapt. Overtime, they will.

it's simple really for those angry about the jack. Either keep your current iphone or get an android like the note 7/edge/S7

Well, I am using the 6S+ and on a 2-year contract. Plenty of time to eventually transition over to a purely wireless lifestyle in preparation for the real iPhone 7.

Grab an iPhone with 2gb of RAM and an Android phone with 3. Use them both and tell me which provides the better experience. Which has more RAM for applications? Which has a steadier frame rate in games and throughout the entire OS? Whichever reloads apps first when you cycle through them?
