I thought 2.0 was coming out on June 9th, oh well that sucks. If they delay it beyond the end of June, that will be just rediculous. Oh well, keep up the good work :apple:

Crap! I have to review for a final on Monday to and I have to stay until 8pm!

:((

High school sucks

But..I'm so happy for the 2.0 software release!!! :D:D:D:D

That would be cool, but will our purchases transfer to the new phones? Has this even been discussed?

It'll be like music, the music you download on your iPhone goes to your computer and if you get a new phone it will probably transfer to it.

I don't really care about GPS, well I am going to drive soon so I guess I can mount the thing in my car, but I realllly want 3G, video camera and AIM and lots of 3rd party apps!!

Wait... there was some doubt regarding this?

I thought it was so obvious that it just didn't need to be mentioned.

I think "by the end of June" was the date they said just so they could have 3 weeks without criticism in the event they weren't able to launch the app store at the time they wanted.

That or it will just be backed up to your backups and not available in itunes without your phone plugged in (or a new phone that is synced with that back-up/assigned to the same account number).

Im hoping its like the games for iPods - that way my partner and I can share our apps without having to buy them more than once.

I think you'll be able to transfer them from an iPhone to the computer it syncs with... then the computer will be able to transfer it to any other iPhones that sync with it.

now heres what im wondering is the app store part of the normal 2.0 featuers or will this be part of the "small upgrade free " for the ipod touch users

Yes i've been wondering that. They've said they want to reach as many people as possible with the store, but previously they've also talked about the need for the 'notional' fee because of their accounts. Of course they could do like they did with the 802.11n upgrades and charge a tiny amount (less than $2 say). Or they could allow downloading of apps from iTunes, but charge the fee if you want the on-device store.

lol. MUST... RESIST! But won't we have to pay for the 2.0 firmware upgrade?

Maybe I'm extrapolating a little too loosely...but I think that App Store = firmware 2.0.

So. If you order your iMac + iPod touch AFTER the announcement of 2.0, and ASSUMING that they either don't alter the Model # of the iPod touches, or do modify the back-to-school special, it's conceivable that iPods ordered with the promotion on or after monday will come with firmware 2.0 installed, free of charge (similar to what happened in January).

Arn, are you post/iPhone happy? A source at a software company said they’re preparing for a Monday release? Yes, we developers are preparing for a Monday release just in case the app store does launch on Monday. A number of us want to be on the store as soon as we possibly can, and Monday is the closest date that looks possible.

Sorry to be pissy about it.

I wonder if the new app store will have this really great game ... Pong, I think it's called.:D

Ehem... ^^^

Why is it that people feel the need to insult Arn about rumors he posts on HIS RUMORS SITE???? CNET broke the story, not Arn...

I, for one, would expect this to be true, especially if the 3G iPhone is available immediately.

Not likely. We'll see a 1.x update including AppStore, and then in a month get the full 2.0.

I hope we'll see the full 2.0, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

Maybe I am just talking out my arse, but it seems like 2.0 is a mostly rewrite of 1.x. I have heard that the APIs are cleaned up compared to what was previous. Lets face it, they didn't have much time to get 1.x to Apples normal level of standards (From a backend perspective)

To me, it seems strange and problematic if they were to have 2 separate code bases for this project. Although quite possible that some features won't make 2.0 and will be released later.

CNet and Arn can post whatever they want. If I insulted you, Arn, my apologies. I just think that it’s a little bit ridiculous that this got to the front page when there’s really not a story (it’s a no-brainer that developers are preparing for a possible Monday release when the keynote is on Monday).

iTunes 7.7 coming on Monday?

The release of the app store implies a new version of iTunes. Wonder what new features (other than the apps store of course) we might see in this new version?

yeah I have finals monday and i just posted on page one of this thread about how i wont be able to watch the WWDC goodness live:mad:

Wait until you get into the real world (a.k.a, the work force). ;)

yeah u could take the day off

In my opinion, this points to a soon-after-announcement launch day. And that makes me happy.

And damnit, when I say SOON I mean TUESDAY.
Or Monday at 6pm.

edit: please oh please oh please oh please oh please oh please

I'm gonna be out of town Monday, but near an AT&T. 1/2 of me wants a Monday launch, and half a Tuesday. But then Tuesday I have a jorb interview.

I'm leaning more towards Monday.

yeah um impossible the 2.0 software is necessary to run the apps so if they did it with a 1.x it would be well nothing more than a way to download the apps. And yes the 2.0 upgrade will cost money for iPod Touch users, and the apps the developers want to cost money will and the others will not.

I think we'll see a final SDK and a launch of the announced iTunes-based downloads, but probably not iPhone OS 2.0 until the 3G iPhone ships (my target date: at the latest Friday the 27th). Who knows, it might just be released on a Tuesday.

In my opinion, the new iPhone will have the glossy plastic back, be a little bit thicker, bring us UMTS 3G (HSDPA) and built-in GPS, possibly a camera with 3 or 5 MPx and maybe a video camera. And I do think OS 2.0 would be on track for the release date of the new iPhone. Which'll be the 27th. A final SDK is assured now for WWDC. I mean, come on, it is the Developer's Conference, now isn't it?
