I started a thread about this, but why can't it play AUDIO to an Apple TV? This really makes me mad, as I can use iTunes to stream music to my Apple TV (optical -> receiver, often never even turn on the TV), and my iPad can stream to my Airport Express, but I can't stream audio to my Apple TV from my iPad?

This isn't even planned obsolescence , it's just screwing users from a consistent experience.

Maybe its just a bug? This is only the first Beta....

One of my email accounts is a pop account. It crashes the mail app so i've deleted that account and the rest work fine now. Skymobile app doesn't work noe but I presume thats an issue with the app

I'm having the same issue with a pop account. I've had to disable it as well. MobileMe and gmail work fine.

Both my own POP and my Gmail appear to be working so far.

I had trouble loading PDFs in from an email. It finally worked but I had to do all sorts of weirdness.

Some apps that don't play nice:

Noterize doesn't work properly (on-screen keyboard doesn't respond all the time).

iStudiez Pro crashes on launch.

The mute switch is actually NOT a mute switch, it is a SILENT MODE switch which is the same as the iPhone. Notice when you toggle the switch on the iPad that it shows a crossed-out bell (like the iPhone), not a crossed-out speaker (like the Macbook when muted). The former means silent mode (iPod app stills plays music but notifications are silent) while the latter means mute (all audio off).

For the life of me I don't understand why the iPad would need a silent mode switch since unlike the iPhone it doesn't have much notifications. I'd much rather have the switch be an orientation lock.

The "mute switch" is absolutely useless then. The entire reason I may prefer a mute switch is if it mutes everything, so whereever I am, whatever I'm doing, I'm able to mute it to pick up a call or something. I surely hope they change it back.

bugs so far:

1) 3rd party email pop account crashes mail
2) m.youtube.com doesn't play videos
3) contacts cannot sync with mobile me account. COntacts slider refuses to stay slided to ''ON''

Have three email accounts:

Btinternet
MobileMe
Gmail

Mail crashes almost instantly after opening. Have restarted iPad to no avail. Have also closed all multitasks. Still crashes. Removed gmail account - still crashes.

So does iOS 4.2 for iPad run iPhone/iPod touch "Retina" apps at native resolution or does it still pixel double?

AirPrint doesn't print to a USB printer connected to a Airport Extreme.

Zooming out of a folder to show all the desktop icons is choppy.

Double clicking the button to get the multi-tasking bar is actually quite difficult. I think they need to increase the amount of time between clicks which is allowed.

Still no option to change calendar colours.

disabling your ''btinternet'' mail account might solve the crashing with 4.2 beta

WSJ app frequently has missing text in articles. App freezes and will not return to Start Screen. After closing and relaunch App stuck on Wall Street Journal then crashes.

I hate that button anyway. The double press is a pain. Also, am I the only one who doesn't like the minute icons in folders and having to read the names of folders to get to the app I want? The folders are even smaller on the iphone - ridiculously so! There should be an option to select one icon for the folder whilst leaving the folder as a folder design to show that it contains other apps.

It is a pop account. I changed it to imap and it still crashes. It's a very bad beta if third party accounts can't be used. It's of no use to me without third party accounts.
That's why its a beta, to find bugs.
Tuesday week you'll have beta 2.
This one is actually really good for a Beta1.
