I'm currently jailbroken on 4.1. If I upgrade normally (not restore) using iTunes to 4.3.1, then use RedSnow, will my jailbreak data remain intact? I'd gladly trade losing my unlockable baseband for not having to get all my settings back the way I like them.

I seem to recall past upgrades would leave the jailbreak portion of the filesystem untouched, but after skimming through the thread I didn't see anyone mention they'd tried this.

Redsn0w Untethered....Optus worked?

Any Optus users try the Redsn0w untethered jailbreak?

I have an iPhone 4, post paid with Optus (carrier version 10.0) running 4.3.1 and was wondering if anyone else with Optus has had this jailbreak work alright.

I tried "Greenpois0n" jailbreak and it wiped out my carrier package that could not be updated etc. I could not connect to Optus 3G network and had to do a full restore to 4.3.1 to get the carrier settings back and connect to 3G.

So if any other Optus users have success with the above method i would like to know. Thanks in advance.

So has the "one bar" fix for 1.59.00 baseband users been released? If so, where can I get it?

Thank you :)

You don't need to worry about ultrasn0w that is only if you want to unlock and your baseband cannot be unlocked anyway.

The baseband does not affect your ability to Jailbreak.

You can JB 4.3.1 using redsn0w on a mac or windows. However, if running it on windows you need to run in XP compatibility mode.

Thanks so much. I wasn't too sure, but now I know i will have a go at the JB tonight. I do have xp so will try what you said, and run in compatibility mode. Maybe that's where my friend went wrong. He had the same issues but the jailbreak never worked. Kept getting iTunes error messages. Thanks again.

can't get redsn0w to work on my Windows 7, I don't have xp mode on my 32-bit version.

You dont need "xp mode", you need to run redsn0w in "compatabilty mode". Right click redsn0w, click properties then...

redsn0w went smooth as *slightly* coarse silk. The experience gave me the impression that it's better to store pkgbackup on Dropbox rather than addressbook contacts. From the last couple of JBs, seems like Mail is flakier than it should be, but everything else going smoothly. Like the new interface of MyWi--sexier! This may just be my setup for good until I get iPhone 5 in late summer.:D

So here's my deal...

I have been following this thread but I'm having a hard time finding one that pertains to my unlock iPhone 4. I still the have old baseband 1.59 with FW 4.2.1 and have saved all my SSH blobs. I want to try this but I was wondering if anyone else have and I notice that there's a new unlock in cydia for 4.3.1. My current FW is not that great as it drains so much of my battery. I was wondering if this will be the case with this 4.3.1. I have been reading some folks are experiecing choppiness when opening and closing apps? Would like to hear from someone that has done this... Thanks in advance.

Jailbreaks and Unlocks really belong in different threads. They are about as different as can be.

Many people Jailbreak just to Jailbreak.

Many people Jailbreak just to Unlock.

The technical difference between who can do what and when with which baseband and what handset from which iteration....

it goes on and on.

And your point is?

If I'm on any page other than home, and I push the home button, the screen doesnt jump to page 1 - any ideas?

Never mind - restarting my phone fixed the problem

Download the app called "Homepage" from Cydia. This will take care of your issue.

Couldn't find my ipsw... I'm using windows 7

It should be under C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roamimg\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. If you don't see AppData then go to Control Panel\Folder Options and set to show hidden files.

So I just got done JB'ng using pwnage tool and with the custom firmware. My phone is stucked in recovery mode and when I try to hit option+restore, it keeps giving the 1600 error. I'm trying to figure this one out..

My silent switch vibrates my phone wrongly since the 4.3.1 Pwnagetool update on my iPhone 4. lol this jailbreak needed a bit more time in the oven, methinks!

And to add, Bluetooth is a little broken, too. I get no white BT symbol anymore when a device connects. :(

Also, the battery symbol for compatible Jabra BT headsets no longer shows up.

What are the differences, in terms of results and performance, between PwnageTool (or Sn0wbreeze) and redsn0w ?
I know that their procedures to jailbreak are different but how about the results other than preserving baseband.

I just updated my phone with tiny umbrella and the recovery fix is not working!! I am running it and I'm getting this over and over in terminal

Did you try using the standalone fix that they say to download since the fix in tinyumbrella isn't working right now?

Actually, it looks to me like you are using the standalone fix. Have you tried the other one (the 42 or whatever it is)? I was in the same exact boat you're in and I was able to finally get out of it.
