newb question here...

i am currently on ios 4.3.1 and baseband 04.10.01

there's so much talk about preserving, etc. your baseband, so i am wondering if i'll run into any issues

any help is appreciated

tia

I have stock iOS4.3.1 and the 4.3.1 baseband, will redsn0w change this baseband to the iPad one, or leave it on the 4.3.1 baseband?

Anyone who can answer this? Don't feel like having my warranty voided if it upgrades it to the iPad baseband

Help me please

I would like to jailbreak for the first time. I have an iPhone 4 on 4.3.1. Baseband 04.10.01. I do not wish to unlock because I am on a legit o2 sim with a contract. Does baseband just affect unlocking? And can I jailbreak with 04.10.01? I have read up and nothing really helps. I know the difference between unlock and jailbreak but on snowbreeze it says unltrasnow does not support my baseband. Isn't ultrasnow just for unlocking? I'm confused please help!!!!

You don't need to worry about ultrasn0w that is only if you want to unlock and your baseband cannot be unlocked anyway.

The baseband does not affect your ability to Jailbreak.

You can JB 4.3.1 using redsn0w on a mac or windows. However, if running it on windows you need to run in XP compatibility mode.

Redsn0w will only update your baseband if you select that option in the settings.
You did not state which phone you had but it cannot put the ipad baseband on an ip4 in any event.

Really simple Jailbreak, took hardly anytime to do and (touch wood) no problems so far. I have an iPhone 4 (32gb)! If anything my phone is sooo much faster. I went from Firmware 4.1 to 4.3.1 I didn't realise how slow my phone had gotten until I updated the firmware now it's very nippy.

I read a few posts in this thread and I can see how it must be confusing to people that haven't jailbroken before.

you're already the most up to date in terms of baseband. just use redsn0w and jailbreak.

can't get redsn0w to work on my Windows 7, I don't have xp mode on my 32-bit version. snowbreeze worked great no issues. Aptbackup is the best thing ever, easier jailbreak yet.

I should be safe if I follow iclafified directions for using redsn0w? I'm used to one click greenpoison and limerain

Terribly naive, I know, but...

While I've found a lot of guides to jailbreaking an idevice, I haven't found how to restore the setting (contacts, appstore apps, etc.). For example, after I've jailbroken with redsn0w, how do I get my apps and contacts back on the phone? Do I have to redownload the apps, or can I just restore the phone somehow?

If possible, I'd really appreciate it if someone would post a set of instructions for how to restore the phone.

Thanks so much!

Before you jb, right click on your device in iTunes and select Backup then jb. Odds are you will not have to restore from it. I didn't.

I've noticed that my available memory is consistently between 40-60 MB less than when I was using 4.1 with the same setup (theme/icons). For example, my phone has 258 MB free right now. If I respring it might go up to the low 300 MB range. Before my phone would be around 315 MB with normal usage and closer to 340 MB after a respring. Does anyone know if iOS 4.3.1 uses more system memory in general compare to 4.1?

When I'm looking at the available ram all processes are closed, except the phone. Just curious to know if anyone else has come across this.

This is by far the best jailbreak released! No battery issues, no crashing, everything works just as if it was stock.

Think back to 2007 when you had to jailbreak in terminal and write the command lines yourself... lol - how far we've come!

Noticed this.

I have 105mb ram free without jailbreak, then it's around 60-80mb jailbroken

I am using windows xp with redsn0w and I am curious to know if I have to use the downloaded ipsw that they suggest. I have my original 4.3.1 ipsw stored in the itunes updates and my thinking is that if I can use either one, i will use the one downloaded directly from apple and that matches the exact file on my phone now. I have also seen conflicting reports about whether the ipsw that redsn0w has you d/l is modded... So, anyone know if we can use either ipsw, if they are the same, or if one is preferred over the other?

All I did was upgrade my iOS in iTunes to 4.3.1 then I opened and ran Redsnow...Fast, simple and easy. You only need to do that other stuff if you are saving your baseband for unlock.

Good Luck:)

Thanks, but..

just tried, but the first step is asking for the ipsw... i will try the one I already have

Finally got it to work...

Now it won't update to the Custom ISPW (holding down Option + Command and selection the custom ISPW from my desktop).

Comes back with an error every time.

Sigh.

JB went fine nice and easy but I guess I wasted $8 on pkgbackup 'cause
that didn't work at all.

Used it before i updated to 4.3.1 and jb but nothing there when I try to restore from the backup.

Anyone else experiencing super-choppy animations with this JB, or with 4.3.1 in general?

Absolutely. Its seriously horrible.

I just reinstalled 4.0. Yep 4.0. It's simply the best. It runs buttery smooth. I cant believe how much smoother everything is. Every version of 4.x on from 4.0 has gotten choppier and choppier. Not sure why Apple cant get this right. 4.0 also has 2x the battery life on my phone then 4.3.1.

Thanks for that info. I was just about to buy it for my 4.1 to 4.3.1 move and JB. You saved me $8.

Well I went ahead and did it. I used redsnow. It worked pretty good. I got the cydia flicker issue but I reboot and it was fine. All is well now. Ya know, I don't really know why I update anymore at all. None of the new fw bundles have anything really new...kind of a waste.
