That wasn't originally the case though, since O2 had exclusivity for, I think, two years from the launch of the original iPhone.

I much prefer that there's no exclusivity nowadays.

Yes good point, although I can remember using a very early jailbreak to activate and unlock my original (2G) iPhone.

I bought the phone in the 'firesale' that occurred a few weeks before the launch of the 3G.

Got the very last one for £159. :D

I just hope Apple streamlines the iPhone lineup because if they end up having the 5C, 5S and both 6 models, it could be potentially overwhelming.

Just keep the 16GB 5S around as the entry level and have the 6 models be the flagship tiers.

They should have the 5.5 and the 4.7 the entry models, and have the 4 inch be the flagship still.
Is there a study confirming the majority of the population (including small women) want the big iphones ?

so the 4" and 4.7" could be priced the same? I wonder if they will still offer the iPhone mini?

I'm guessing the 4.7" will be at current pricing, and I haven't read one word about the 4" model. I wonder if there will still be a C model, or if the 5S will continue as their lower cost phone? I can't believe they will still sell the 4S in the US, but who knows?

Ive been waiting for the 5.5" since the 4S. And havent owned a iPhone since.

Cant wait!!!

Aside from the screen there isn't anything to get excited over

Still same iOS 8

We need multitasking

We need a way to change default apps

We need an ir blaster

We need more ram

We need a true notification center

Either simultaneous announcement or simply postponing the 5.5 inch until the next year were the only two options that ever made sense. The delay the announcement of the 5.5 inch iPhone for several months rumor, missing both the US and Chinese main gift-giving seasons, never made sense.

Can you imagine the bitching and moaning from people who ordered the 4.7" only to find out that there is a 5.5" being announced 3 weeks later?

And it would be worse if the 5.5" had additional features that weren't included on the 4.7"..Like a sapphire display.

I think i'm pretty much set on the 4.7". But I at least want to see the 5.5" before I make my purchase. It would really suck, and it would be very difficult for me to make a purchase knowing something else is right around the corner that may have additional features.

I'm really hoping they are intentionally playing up the health/fitness monitoring crap on the watch to divert the media from some other features they have up their sleeves.

Apple has trained me to expect some kind of amazing email or phone or music integration on the new watch that will have me waiting in line come September.

I fear it's going to be about heart rate and blood sugar.

More Steve. Less Tim.

Too much to wish for? One would think Jobs still had some input and thinking into the iwatch ...

I am in the same boat. Not that I don't welcome health related features but the iWatch will have to have 1 or 2 things for it to transform the wearables market either 1) have a killer new feature that we don't know about 2) Be very fashionable/trendy to wear one.

This is about as useful as just about any of us simply guessing. One week it's "the bigger one will be delayed!" Then the next its " nope they'll be release same time. Yay right?" Then back and forth.

Rumors can be entertaining sometimes, but a little consistency would be nice. If you're gonna bs us, be a little cool about it.

Apple will have to release both phones to make any business sense, there may not be millions readily available like the 4.7 but I dont think Apple would make that mistake and not release at same time--

So by the looks of it, it looks to be the same amount of icons on the home screen? This could just me the mockup (I understand that) but, Apple better do something about the app grid if they are indeed releasing a bigger screen size. It would be pointless if applications looked exactly the same way and did not take advantage of the new real estate of the new model.

Let's assume that all the apps stay exactly the same as they are on iPhone 5s and are blown up on the larger phones, which would have larger pixels and lower pixel density, so all the apps would essentially be larger. While it may seem pointless, take a look at Safari. You would still be able to zoom out of text, and fit more text on a 5.5 inch phone than on a 4-inch phone... it may not be Retina text, but there would literally be more words of an article visible on the 5-inch phone, because even though the app is exactly the same, the text size does not have to be. Same goes for any notes app, reminders app, maps. All of those things can be zoomed out to fit more content on a screen.

Na the 5.5 is getting 1080p while the 4.7 is getting a weird resolution again like the 4 and 5 got.
Right...

----------

So what? The main reason for a bigger screen is bigger content. Resolution doesn't matter as long it's ~350 PPI.
There's no more screen real estate though, it's just the same content "blown up." Unless you have poor eyesight, there's absolutely no advantage.

It would be a very smart move to launch both sizes together. Many of us are only interested in the 5.5" and after years of procrastinating Apple needs to just make it happen.

I predict ...

The 4.7" device is the Sixth Generation iPod Touch.

The 5.5" device is the iPhone 6.

You sure that's not Asperger's and a thyroid problem?
Easy there tiger.... If I can get in trouble for telling someone to get a life you certainly can for mocking Aspy's..... and I guess those with a hypothyroid condition too... I however am a hypocrite and only care about the ASD mocking.

----------

Steve is long dead. Get over it.

I agree and also believe people saying this is getting old and tiresome.....BUT....Be careful the Stevo's can get a bit touchy.

----------

Who cares? Steve is dead. He's been dead for nearly 3 years.
