This iPhone could have never ending battery life, a nuclear generator as a SoC... I don't care.

With 1 GB of RAM, we know people will be getting screwed when they buy one. To a lesser extent, it already happened with iPad Air, mini retina and even the 5s. What a bummer, if true.

Since the a7 is already limited by the 1 GB of Ram, they might as well use it on the next devices too.

With the iPad's you at least got a decent screen resolution, with these rumours it seems you'll be screwed both on the screen resolution AND the RAM. And no doubt Apple will charge you more for the privilege.

Regarding RAM, I won't defend Apple's decision to go with 1GB if that is, in fact, true, but it's probably still vastly better than the S5 running TouchWiz because of how much of a RAM-hog TouchWiz is. Here's a fun screenshot from an S5 user on Android Central who was ONLY using his phone to stream HBO Go to a Chromecast: Image

IMO, the Note 3 would be one of the best smartphones bar none if Samsung would get the F out of the way with its bloatware and just let it run Android natively. I have both a iPhone 5S and a Note and even though the hardware on the Note outclasses the iPhone in every way (I love that huge, gorgeous screen and 160GB total storage space), Samsung's buggy interface and drivers cause nothing but problems. iPhone may be boring specwise, but its (mostly) rock solid. I never had to reboot an iPhone because a bad camera driver crashed, causing the processor to race to 60 percent, making the phone hot as h3ll and draining the battery - like recently happened with the Note 3. That's normal, everyday life for a Samsung user.

At the end of the day, Android is more dynamic. There is more I can do. So is Windows. Being objective, Apple's strength is to focus on the big picture and try to make it pretty as possible. The build quality makes it feel worth the sticker price and the software makes it simple to accomplish what many want or need. I feel the subtle nuances is where it fails. It doesn't have the wow factor for me. Steve Jobs' iPhone 6 would be dramatically different. Practicality is important to me and various consumers. By waterproofing the iPhone 6, it would have an IPS rating by now when we're like 3 weeks away from the release. That would kill many Lifeproof sales..

I left android for iOS. I still miss my widgets, google apps integration, and how I could customize my phone to suit my needs. However, android is more fragmented then dynamic, and severely plagued by poor apps outside of google. It is also best rooted, since phone makers and carriers try so much to control whats on the device with their bloatware, you can forget about keeping up with the latest os's from google. While apple is extremely greedy, at least they keep others greed at bay to ensure the device is not hampered by others.

I won't worry about specs as much as how well my device functions. I wanted one day one, but now I think I will wait until a month or so in, to make sure its what i want.

agree with rafterman

To think there was enough parts leaked from the manufacture to completely build a iPhone 6 but we have no idea what the iWatch even looks like. Well played

1080p is a novelty until Apple does it. Some of you people amaze me. I can clearly see the difference in the 5S compared to the S5 display.

Both the resolution and the lack of RAM are a problem. It will be a bigger problem if Apple leaves it at 1GB for the iPad. Definitely skipping this year.

Not sure where the hate comes from, it's just a company that makes stuff. If you don't like it don't buy it.

I don't think there is going to be a significant difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen at the same size under 5" or so. You have to be pixel peeping.

I can notice 1080p is sharper on my nexus 5 than the 5s resolution. But i'd rather take 750p display but with much longer battery life.

And for ram. Everything in iphone 5s runs smoothly with 1gb except safari reloading when opening 3-5 tabs. Please apple, i dont need 2gb of ram for a phone. Give me 1.5gb and im sure safari reloading issue will be gone.

For ipad, 1gb of ram is ridiculous. Open safari with 2 tabs, open clash of clans to raid, back to safari, boom reload.

Only issue I had with a Note 3 was the GPS, but that was AT&T's fault for fubaring it in each of their models.

667x375 (666.66666666... to be exact) @3x would be 2000x1125

What a number. Plus it shows exactly the same amount of content as the @2x 1334x750, but just 150 percent clearer at 489 ppi.

Re: visible density. There's standard eye resolution and then there's real life.

Although "retina" calculations are based on a standardized "average eye" resolution ability of 1 arc minute, in real life scientists say that people can see down to 0.4 arc minute.

That means that even at 12" away, a display would need over 700 ppi. Not the so-called "retina" 300 ppi.

At 6" away, it would need 1400 ppi.

So yes, higher densities are visible to many people.

For similar reasons, many laser printers can do more than the usual "print quality" 300 DPI. It is noticeable to many.

Sales font lie. Smartphones since 2012 have been overkill for the vast majority.

Well, if they made something that told the truth and was near perfect, nobody would upgrade to anything. Like most people aren't aware that the iPhone is designed to work for 2 years on average. Not that the hardware and software are bad, but it's Apple's design. They slow down the software through updates for iOS and then the battery gives out after awhile. It's not a great battery to begin with, so replacing the battery is a pain. The best thing would be to make a removable one, but Apple doesn't want to lose out on money and what not. That's why the iPhone 5's battery replacement exists in part. I feel like the price doesn't do the phone justice yearly. If it was for $300-$400, I wouldn't be as critical because its all about the intrinsic and monetary value of the device. iDevices regress quicker for me, but they retain a lot more value when reselling. The repair opportunity costs are too high for an average device's prices. iFixit says it's harder and more expensive to repair. It's not a bad phone by any means, but it's not worth the sticker price or hype. If I bought the 5S, I would've used T-Mobile Jump when the phone dropped to $500 for the base model, but that would take about 8 months from release and the market churns newer phones.

The screen quality on the 5s is amazing.
1GB of RAM on a PHONE is enough.
Battery life, well you can't comment on that until you've used it properly.

To me, all of your points are invalid.

I agree 100%. Especially the screen quality is the best of any smartphone. Android users had never had the luck to use a smartphone with almost perfect color reproduction. Everything is oversaturated and looks unreal. We are lucky that Apple tries to give us a color accurate display.
1GB of RAM is not enough if you are using Android. On iOS and especially on a phone, 1GB is ok.
On the iPad though that is a different story. We need more RAM there.

Only issue I had with a Note 3 was the GPS, but that was AT&T's fault for fubaring it in each of their models.

I had issues with wifi dropping (the dreaded "unstable internet connection" error) and the bluetooth was flaky with my car bluetooth (e.g., pressing "stop" while listening to audiobooks would sometimes be ignored, then suddenly stop 30 seconds later). Plus, I had a Gear 2 watch and not only did the email to watch function never work (the watch always said "no emails" even though I had emails on the phone) the "notifications" option in Gear Manager on the phone would always crash when trying to load.

It seemed like every week, there was a new problem. And I blame crappy Samsung software for almost all of them. If it wasn't for those bad experiences, I would be looking hard at the Note 4 next month. But Samsung software ineptness has turned me off. Whenever someone says that Samsung doesn't innovate, I will point to the Note 3 to prove them wrong - the most innovative phone in years. But having the best phone hardware-wise in the world doesn't matter if the software is flaky.

Completely disagree. The HTC ONE, for example, has a NOTICEABLY a sharper screen than any Retina iPhone. It's not even close.

I had the HTC One M8 and yes, it has a sharper screen, but you barely notice it. What you will definitely notice though, are the oversaturated colors that destroy the experience (at least mine). Everything looks unreal. Try watching a video. Human skin color almost looks red. It's a shame because apart from that I liked the M8 a lot...
The iPhone's display is much better and it doesn't matter that it has lower PPI. It is more than enough and it looks real sharp too. Add to that the perfect color reproduction and you have a winner..

Yeah yeah yeah yeah, whatever...

SHOW us someone turning it OFF then ON, and I want to see the Apple logo ON THE SCREEN WHILST IT BOOTS. Once it has booted, lock the screen with the sleep/wake button then SHOW THE LOCK SCREEN. Hearsay and fakery are easily pulled off, we're not all fooled so fast.

Honestly, do these "leakers" think the majority of us came down in the last shower? They must do.

Seriously.
If I had an iPhone 6, I'd show every single detail about the phone.
I don't know if those people run out of storage on their cameras, or magically lose their pictures files or something, because they NEVER seem to have all the details.
Very irritating.

The 4,7 is the 5C ;)

Hopefully not. Apple should make it as high end as the 5,5" model. Even Gruber said that on his latest podcast and I think he knows exactly that this will be the case.

----------

I'm starting to think that it's safari not the 1 GB limit that is causing tab reloading as it occurs on high end macs too. I don't like the behaviour but I'm starting to doubt it's based on safari running out of ram.

I never had a tab reload on my Macs and I use Safari only. Of course my Mac have tons of RAM. My current iMac has 32GB...

----------

Can anybody explain the maths that results in 2208 x 1242 (736 x 414) being 3x retina?

And then also explain why having to design 3 different screen layouts (and not just scale) is even remotely good for developers?

There was a time when Apple had the best phone on the market; the iPhone 4. It had the best screen of any phone and it was super smooth with a elegant design. But because Apple had that silly exclusive deal with AT&T many people ended up with Android instead. So when iPhone hit Verizon it was already a 7 month old phone. And then the iPhone 4s came out which was not that much different. This was when Apple fell behind in my opinion. Android got better and screens started to match or surpass the retina display.
Many Android users including myself want to see that Apple magic but it appears that Apple just wants to play catch up. We already know that Apple makes a smooth elegant phone but this is not good enough. Where is that ground breaking feature? Or how about put that 64 bit processor to better use with more memory?
Introducing that 64 bit processor so early might back fire on Apple. Google might have a tablet with a 64bit processor, 64bit operating system with 4gigs of ram and quad HD display. That tablet will undercut the iPad in pricing. And next year we should see the first phone with 4gigs of ram.

Having used Android for many months, I cannot agree with you.
The iOS experience is still the best out there. It's elegant, everything has been thought of till the end, and it also looks great.
Android on the other hand has many rough edges, but yes, it allows for many customisations if you are up to it. Most of these customisations are possible if you root your device. Changing a launcher though can be done easily (with no root permissions).
My biggest issues with the Android ecosystem were:
  • The lack of a complete backup/restore solution like iCloud Backup or iTunes Backup. The current situation is a joke
  • The lack of updates. Even on my HTC One M8, HTC needs three months to bring an update, after Google released it. Yes, there are GPE editions of specific phones, but then you lose on some features, like Sense 6, that is actually better than stock Android...
  • No system wide tap on the top bar to scroll to the top. This has always bothered me, coming from iOS..
  • No reader mode in Chrome. People might have bigger screens, but websites are still not optimized for mobile. On my 4" iPhone 5S I could read better and easier than on my HTC One M8. Why? Because of the reader mode. Firefox and Dolphin have it, but lack many other features, or are not as fast as Chrome on Android. Again, Android gives the impression that is half baked.
  • Screen quality. Android devices might have big screens with a very high PPI, but that doesn't tell the truth about the quality of the display. There is not a single Android display out there (with the exception of Nexus 5) that has a good color accuracy and gamut. Just read the reviews of various Android flagship devices from Anandtech.
  • Apps quality: Many debate about that, but the truth is that Android apps have in general not the same quality as iOS apps.

So, what is groundbreaking in Apple's iPhone? The way it works!
Some might say that is boring to always have the same interface, etc..but the truth is, it doesn't really matter. The total user experience does.

The screen on the 5s is the same density as on the iphone 4(4 years old). When samsung is already going into the 500+ppi range on the gs5 prime this is a problem for apple. The same galaxy s5 prime has 3gb of ram, now it is true that ios does use less ram, but they arn't magicians and can't replicate the power of 3gb in 1gb. I've really havn't had any problems with battery life on iphones, the problem is that the average user discharges completely/misshandles the battery thus dwarfs the iphone's battery.

False, the Galaxy is more practical and is more dynamic. That's your problem. My S5 hardly uses any RAM and maybe that device has too many software bugs? Touchwiz is simply a great OS skin and does everything I need for me. The Note 4 and G3 are the best phones for 2014. iPhone 6 pales in comparison vs the mainstays.

Touchwiz is a great OS skin?

Diaster

If the iPhone 6 Does not at least have a TRUE EDGE TO EDGE DISPLAY its fair to say tim cook and jony I've should be FIRED. WAKE UP GUYS WHEN YOU HAVE 160 BILLION IN CASH AND CLAIM YOU MAKE WORLD CLASS PRODUCTS AND TAKE YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS FOR GRANTED AND ITS NOT RIGHT , STOP BEING BIAS , EVEN THOU I LOVE APPLE , THIS IS PLAIN GREED OF INNOVATION. STOP BEING BIAS ITS LOOKS JUST THE THE IPHONE 5S!!!!!!!!! COME ON GUYSSSSSSSSSSS SINCE STEVE LEFT THEIR JUST PLAYING IT SAFE ,TIM COOK IS HORRIBLE WHAT HAS HE DONE SINCE STEVE JOBS LEFT TO INSPIRE STEVE JOBS INVESTOR CONFIDENCE, STOP BEING BIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS NOT RIGHT .WHEN SHARP IS RELEASING A PHONE THAT LOOKS MORE FUTUREISTIC THAN APPLE IPHONE 6 THAN SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!!! STOP BEING BIAS AND BE FAIR!!!!!!!!! APPLE USED TO BE A MAGICAL COMPANY LIKE DISNEY !!!!! BUTS ITS ALL GONE SEEMS LIKE, I REALLLY CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT LOOKS GOOD, THE IPHONE 6 IS SUPPOSED TO BE A RADICAL SUPER SEXY PHONE THAT NO ONE IS EVEN BEING CLOSE. STOP BEING BIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Samsung is so polarizing among people with their OS. I feel like the casual user loves it while the informed or hardcore mobile fan feels it's perverted. If getting the best OS is your aim, a Google Play Edition/Android Silver gives you a OEM's specific hardware with the pure Android OS. I feel like that HTC makes the best all rounded software. I liked the HTC One M8 a lot, but it was lacking in some of features and was not as pragmatic or practical to own. The best overall Android phone in general is probably the LG G3. I have the G2 as a second phone, but the G3 was nothing what I wanted. I felt like it had ugly software, which I find on LG anyways, but the G2 only cost me $240 unlocked refurbished. It has the 3 GB of RAM people want while having the features of Samsung while being "cleaner" and more "efficient." The camera is nice and the best of Android hardware exists on it. The best phone to get if you're used to the iPhone would be the Moto X+1 or HTC One M8. The X+1 has decent build quality and the specs are great. It is not an overkilling processing powered device, but always on function is unique. Plus, Moto is great with battery life. HTC has the metal feel with dual speakers, dual cameras, etc. Phones are all about preference at the end of the day, but I don't see the logic behind owning the iPhone for myself since its screen is obscurely displaying pixels (dimensions at least), the battery life is mediocre for a $700 device, the speakers aren't elite, the software updates are mired with bugs at launch, no expandable memory, the software is very limited for me, it doesn't bring many unique features to the table as it used to, harder to get music on it, cannot get away from iTunes, not waterproof, expensive peripherals, doesn't have uniqueness since everyone has one, and it's just plane outdated when it first comes out and that raises the opportunity cost for me as a consumer.

And those will be the ones in line for this pathetic 2014 device. Same boring UI, same crappy RAM, same bullcrap marketing retina.
I won't be buying an iPhone 6 but would you care to explain your actual gripes with the UI (I'll give you that iOS 7.1 is still vastly inconsistent), the RAM (I don't care about specs, only about how it performs in real life terms) and with Retina (you don't like the name or is the 326 ppi resolution not enough?)

If the iPhone 6 Does not at least have a TRUE EDGE TO EDGE DISPLAY its fair to say tim cook and jony I've should be FIRED.

I wish people would stop harping about edge to edge displays. Edge to edge displays are highly impractical. The Note 3 has an almost edge to edge display and I am constantly hitting icons along the edges every time I pick the d@mn thing up from the table.
