Any word on a 4" model? I've only read reports on the 4.7" and 5.5" models.
So; can I ask what everyone who else who would normally upgrade do if Apple only release phablets this year?
Think there'll be an upgraded 5s? - the 6s and two phablets?

I guess if you've got a 5, it's easier; just get the 5s. The same if you "upgraded" to a 5c last time. But those of us who upgrade to the top end each year could have nothing to upgrade to!
("So; show us the high-end phone you've got this year then!" / "Wait. This is identical to last year -?" / "Yep. Funny story; it's still the top model!")
I guess there's always a different colour...

I would love to feel what the 5.5" model will feel like before purchasing.

I may just order 1 of each and return one.

Believe it or not I ordered a dummy Galaxy Note 2(5.5 screen) for under $ 10 on ebay so i can see how it feels in hand, pocket, etc. Should get it in a few days. For the money it was worth it to me to be able to see how the size applies to my everyday use

Why the Disbelief?

It only makes sense that they would offer the bigger phones to compete agains the competition. I would've like to see them keep a smaller phone for people that don't want the giant but I get where they are coming from.

Early in the discussion people kept saying why would they come out with them at two different times? Nothing i read says they will. Just that production will start at different times. I don't think they expect to sell as many large versions as the smaller one. Just like they sell far more iphones that miniipads.

Glad the 5.5'' has been mentioned again, and seems likely to arrive this year.

If it's announced but delayed, that's cool - a similar thing happened with the iPad Air/retina iPad mini.

I'm loving that screen size - the biggest complaint it seems about iPhone - will be completely solved in one update.

The 5.5" is real and is going to happen. They will have to do something to compete with the G3. I recently bought one and hands down it is the best electronic device I have ever owned. The screen alone blows everything else out of the water.

In your mind you may think it is too big, but in reality it works. People are hungry for bigger screens, Apple for once will have to do something to fill a need, rather than sit back and dictate what the market will bear. I think they may have learned their lesson with the overproduction of the 5C and the underproduction of the 5S.

The Model T days of Apple are over.

Not sure about the model T days being completely over, but it is nice that we will finally have choices on form factors.

What about if the iPhone 6 is the 5.5" model and the 6c is the 4.7" model?

[Edit] - I'm wondering about the possibility of the 6C being the 4.7" (but without sapphire glass, hence ready to go into production sooner?) and the iPhone 6 will be a 5.5" Sapphire glass toting bad boy!?

Samebung released the s3 with 4.8" screen over 2 years ago.
I can't help but feel that had Apple reacted back then, Andriod would not be as popular as it is today.

Very true. I wonder the same thing. Screen size is the only reason I went to Android from my 3.5" iPhone.

Ummm... What? It does. The 4" iPhone is by far the best selling phone in the world.

The iPhone does outsell individual phones, yes. But when you move away from manufacturer vs manufacturer comparison and look at platform vs platform, Android flagships with 4.7"+ screens easily outsell 4.0" iPhones. Really, its not even close.

I much preferred Apple's summer releases of iProducts. All the fan boys get them early and by christmas time all of the kinks have been worked out in the process and regular people can start purchasing them. I definitely think it was a mistake to move to a Sept/Oct release cycle.

It's probably because at some point Steve Jobs got really sick and they couldn't meet the June release date... But just think - the Chinese were able to produce an exact replica in a matter of months. The plight of all large corporations is inefficiency.

I think the switch to the fall release date occurred because of the Apple switch from Infineon baseband chipsets to Qualcomm's. Apple had announced the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 earlier that year and probably had an agreement that phone would not be obsoleted for 6 months. Then Apple switched to Qualcomm enabling them to use only one source and be ready for the switch to LTE.

Also the Qualcomm chipsets seem to be announced early in the year but especially when there is some process shift, the availability can be quite delayed. That is another reason why new iPhones might not appear until the fall.

I'm with you. The 5.5" isn't going to happen.

There haven't been any legitimate leaks of the 5.5" iPhone for a reason: it doesn't exist.

Me too. They will never make a phone larger than 3.5 or an ipad mini.

----------

Looks like a feature bloated Samsung device

If there's one thing we iphone users hate is features.

Since the 4" iphone is closer to the ipod nano in screen size than 4.7 or 5.5 is to the 8" ipad mini I guess that means the 4" iphone should be called a phnano?

5.5? my gf tells me thats too small, but maybe for a phone it'll be big enough.

Too SMALL:eek:. Please tell me your girlfriend is joking. The Galaxy Note III measures 5.7', The new LG G3 measures 5.5', Galaxy S5 measures 5.1'. Are you sure your girlfriend wasn't talking about the 4.7'. But what do I know i'm single. HA.

p.s women are always right............even when their wrong. ;):D

iphone 6 already arriving

coming in under older model numbers of other products to fly under the radar. once it enters the U.S, it immediately rolls for "parts unknown" within the country. when the iphone 6 announcement is made, it will be immediately available. wait and see. shhhhh...

You're clearly right, considering how there are no 4" flagship Android phones on the market.

You could say the same thing about the % of Android flagships smaller than 5.0", of which there are none. Sales of 5" (or larger) Android flagships make up 100% of sales.

If the distribution of screen-size was more evenly distributed, meaning there were several 4" screen sizes to choose from, I hope you understand that the disparity in sales figures wouldn't be nearly as significant.

There haven't been leaks about the iWatch either.
But I'm almost certain it wil release in November(announcement in Oktober).
and it will be released & announced together with the 5,5" iPhone.

Because Apple has media events in January/February, June, September & Oktober

BTW,
I really hoped that the iPhone 5C(failure, seems like Apple is discontinuing the C serie) & iPad Mini (Apple is losing money on it right?) rumors were fake, but it got announced and released.
I'm thinking that the same thing will happen with the iPhone 5,5"

I'm glad Taiwan's Economic Daily didn't need to cite a source...

That makes me feel MUCH better ...

IF no 5.5" than I'm buying the Galaxy Note 4. Small screen phones are dieing out. I also kinda doubt Apple will do a 5.5 cause it will kill off their ipad business especially their mini.

The Note 4 is far more useful than any size iPhone. iOS is fine for iPads but has outlived it's usefulness as a smartphone.

Okay... that's funny, but I think it also needs a track ball.

Maybe I'm saying something about my age but I think it would be cool if Apple could revive some kind of flip phone format. These displays are starting to get hilariously large. My Dad has a Samsung that he wears on his belt. I don't know the screen size but it looks like he's carrying a mini laptop on his waist which gives me a laugh although I say nothing to that effect. The other thing I noticed about my own personal usage habits was that I stopped using so many of the functions on the iPhone when I got an iPad. Would be cool to be able to fold an iPhone in half... or something like that.

There haven't been any legitimate leaks of the 4.7 either. Maybe they are sticking with the 4".

It's possible it will just be a 4" screen again. Apple did say it was the perfect size when it was released. After reading a lot of comments on the forum I'd say most iPhone fans on this forum would be happy with another 4" only iPhone. After owning a G3 though I'd never go back to a tiny screen. This thing is amazing.

While anything is possible, the rumors of delays could indicate it's existence. Especially given the sheer volume of 5.5 rumors. I have no preference either way other than getting very sick of reading about both of them. Once any iPhone 6 is released, I'm sure many will breathe a sigh of relief. The drama surrounding any new iPhone gets very old, very quick.
