Our rationale is as follows: (1) the OLED model may trigger replacement demand among high-end users given its completely all-new-design form factor and notably superior specs the new 4.7” iPhone, featuring glass casing and wireless charging, looks well positioned to tap replacement demand at the entry level.

This is one of my issues with Apple at the moment. "Entry-level" and "high-end" should not be terms used to delineate a lineup based on whether you want a large or small screen.

The thing about the single block of glass design is that when it ceases to function it will be simply, a single block of glass.

Apples biggest problem in my opinion at this point is carriers declaring war on traditional subsidies which have been putting some stress on the previous traditional upgrade cycles. I used to upgrade constantly but my iPhone 6 does everything I want and if I wanted to upgrade my carrier would force me into a current market plan which would increase my bill from around $50 a month plus tax to $80 a month plus tax. And thats not even with a subsidized phone, that is BYOD. To get a phone subsidy the bill goes up even higher

I hope it's not the same largely useless "wireless" charging that has existed on other phones before.

So in usual Apple fashion, it will not be a single new technology, but putting various state of the art technologies together in a new way that will make it special.

Presumably in the same fine tradition (and anemic specs) as exemplified by the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar....

It is suppose to have Energous's wireless charging tech, aka true wireless charging, and not what is currently out right now on Galaxy devices, etc

I'm really looking forward to the iPhone 7S
I'll take mine in gloss black

2018 will be for the iPhone 8.. iPhone 8S will be in 2019
The 10th generation iPhone will just be called "iPhone"

Apple is finally getting around to wireless charging. When I bought the Lumia 920 in 2012, AT&T gave me a free charging pad with my phone because they were so eager to sell Windows phones.

Now with my Lumia 950 I don't use it much any more, because with fast charging my phone is only plugged in for about 15 minutes / day.

They aren't going to add a big feature like that to the low end model and not the high end. "This Camry has leather but the Porsche does not."

I don't trust anything Kuo says, but I'd love to see wireless at a distance and improved screen-body ratio for next years phone.

I understand the importance of this tech for waterproofing devices, though It would scare me to think we could eventually have an iPhone with zero ports because everything is wireless. It makes sense on the watch, however, I am not interested in wireless charging of the phone itself.

Technology that radiates energy throughout the room to charge a phone. No thanks... o_O

I know, right? Radiation is the worst. Light bulbs are so dangerous. Freaking sun spraying radiation everywhere. Should outlaw that earth aggression.

I hope so. With Apple's long tradition of ditching ports I feel the days of lightning are truly numbered. Dock connector was on iPhone from 2007 to 2012, five years - and 2017 is 5 years after 2012 so it won't be long until it's gone, and I won't be happy if it's replaced with something that requires constant contact to a charging plate to charge.

Hopefully this will be long range wireless charging and not need a puck or dock.
Of course. Why do you think it has taken this long? They are going for an ACTUAL wireless charging experience that doesn't suck miserably.

Hopefully it will have its own "name" so we have a way of differentiating the legit Apple solution and every other gimmicky interpretation that has come before it.

Every single leak and news source has pointed to the iPhone 8 being 2017. There will be no 7s.

There has been neither. There is positively nothing but rumor and guesswork. More of the latter.

Yes!

I was excited about the Apple Watch's inductive charging but I've found from use the puck is really no easier, and often less reliable (from a goof-proof standpoint), than just inserting a lightning cable. It's also slightly more cumbersome to travel with because of the puck b/c it is another specialized charger to schlep. So if iPhone uses a puck I hope they use the same one as AW so you don't have to bring multiple charging cables if that is your thing -- it is mine. I like to travel as light as possible.

It will be completely wireless. Except for the wire the connects the wireless charger to the wall.

So is the iPhone 8 going to be the same as the 7 but glass with wireless charging, and the Plus is going to be completely new with new internals and OLED? That seems like a fragmentation cluster. Doubt this will happen but I'd be pretty upset if it did. I imagine most people would be. They shouldn't start segmenting out features based on size like this. It's not fair to large handed and small handed people on both ends who want certain features that are arbitrarily restricted. Just charge what it costs to make a good phone, full stop.

Just thinking about true wireless charging at a range, if it is indeed possible, would be absolutely incredible.

Have it all set up correctly you'd never have to worry about charging your phone ever again
