Some people could not possibly order any faster, and got delayed by weeks. The store app did not come up at the same time for everyone. Other people have disabilities and are unable to click through very fast. Some people wanted to use a gift card and had to wait 10+ minutes for apple.com. And some watches started off at 4-6 weeks and have yet to be delivered.

All of those are Apple's fault due to significant supply constraints. Sure they told you the shipping window, so we are aware. But imagine the shipping window was 2016-2017. Or imagine you have severe arthritis or vision problems, you were a little slow so your watch was delayed for 2 months. Would you still feel the same way?

Everybody would feel bad, but what should Apple do? If Apple could deliver faster, I'm absolutely sure they would, but if somebody in the supply chain has problems (haptic engine), there is nothing, that Apple could do, but ship as many they can, as fast they can.
First Come, first serve. I had my order for a 42mm SpaceGrey on 0:01, and for 38mm Sports White on 0:02. I got both my watches on 24th, it wasn't close to be impossible!!

What about people that walk in to Maxfields in LA and buy the same watch you ordered on the 10th and they get it in one day. CRAZY.

True. I should've waited in line but I heard that even waiting in line will take weeks to get the phone since they've run out of stock as well. Pretty much waiting in line to be able to preorder and there's a cut off. The only good side to maxfields is they get priority. I understand the frustrations. Hopefully mine will come in next week.

They should communicate the real issues to customers. People would be far more forgiving if Apple would own up to the fact that the rollout was botched, not enough supply to meet initial demand, extremely vague and poor communication about initial supply, extremely vague and poor communication about expected ship dates, etc.

Not for you. But many couldn't get into the app until 0:04 or later, so it was impossible.

Apple could have done several things differently. They could have delayed the launch until adequate supplies were made. They could have at least communicated better (same date range: May 13-27 for SGS and May 13-27 for leather loop watch - but far different supplies). They could have held a lottery for all orders placed within the first 10 minutes.

And the haptic engine failure has not been announced by Apple as far as I know, and had nothing to do with the leather loops getting hosed. If they reports are true, they knew about it in February.

So at the very least, I expect some mea culpa from Apple. In that way, they have failed.

Do you honestly, seriously, truly believe, based on the events of the past few weeks, that anywhere even close to even a million orders have been shipped by now, let alone launch weekend? I think that would be laughably optimistic.

You cleary have no idea the size and scale of Apple's operation!

They sold and shipped 10 million iPhone 6s in the first 2 days!!

They have sold over 700 million iPhones!! That is over around 100,000,000 per year if you spread it evenly over its life span. But more realisticly that's been an exponerialy growing number every year!!

They sold an estimated 74.5 MILLION Phones in the first quarter of this year. Thats almost a MILLION PHONES A DAY!!!!! And you think they somehow they only delivered a few hundred thousand watches over the last 30 days since people have been able to order them?

Cry me a river OP.

The wait for the Watch is what it is. I understand your desire to have it on your wrist, but it's not a failed launch. Apple is doing everything they can to fulfill orders as fast as they can. Do you really think that Apple is holding back and not fulfilling orders for the heck of it?

When you clicked the buy button, you were given an estimate of how long you would have to wait. Yes, many people have received their orders early, but there never has been a guarantee that any of us would. You have no grounds in which to lay your complaints on, nor do your complaints have any merit whatsoever until Apple has surpassed the date range in which they quoted you when you ordered the item.

No, I have a quite accurate idea of the size and scale of their operation - and guess what - that doesn't matter for a new product. You can quote all of the numbers you want, but it is extremely unlikely that Apple has come anywhere close to the kinds of numbers you're imagining.

Sure, the speculation in the news is probably off a bit - but I trust journalists who have sources with suppliers a lot more than I trust someone online who is magicking up Apple Watch numbers based on "how many iPhones exist".

It ABSOLUTELY matters for this new product!!;)

Apple is the most profitable company on earth. EVERY product they sell sells by the TENS TO HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS! You don't think they would have expected to sell MILLIONS of watches right out of the gate? How can you even quote a 376,000 number of watches made with a straight face?

Apple surely planned on X millions of units, just not X*2 or X*3

I was a very early Kickstarter backer of the Pebble watch. The campaign was in April and the watches were to be shipped the following September. However, because of numerous problems, including the fact that I wanted a gray watch, which was offered but never made, I didn't get mine until April of the next year. A year and 9 days from when I became a backer.

Yesterday I ordered my :apple: Watch and have a shipping date of July. I am very sure that Apple will be able to ship my watch to me on or before that time. So I have no anxiety.

It does help to have my Pebble on my wrist right now to tide me over until my :apple: Watch arrives.

Keep kidding yourself. All signs in the media point to me being right, and you being absurdly & laughably way off base.

You must only read the tabloids. You have yet to present a single factual data point or logical statement. None of your statements make an ounce of sense for the most successful company on earth that deals in massive scale production as a key part of its daily business.

Here's the source I trust the most: 2.3 million preorders (not shipped)

https://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/15/apple-watch-2-3-million-pre-orders/

I'm not calling this (the Apple Watch) launch a failure. I am saying this whole "White iPhone 4" LEGEND of being such a botched launch is a bunch of whiny people who wanted a special color, not the phone itself.

And this is different than the people who wanted a specific watch model how? ;)

Have any of their delivery windows been missed?

No?

Then the source is irrelevant. Until they are missed, there is no problem. Well, there actually is a problem: people too caught up in their heads that they are the center of the universe, and that they want to have their gear in their hands NOW, instead of (re)learning the virtue of patience.

BL.

The fact that there are 9 (more like 90) threads saying it is a failed launch MAKES IT A FAILED LAUNCH. When a large portion of your customers are upset, you have failed - whether or not you believe their expectations are unreasonable.

Large portion = small portion of self entitled whiners

This is the internet after all

My shipping window starts on Tuesday. I'll wait. It's just a watch.

Why should they? Do a lottery? I can really understand the frustation, but this would be unfair for people who really did everything to get their orders through as close as possible to 0:01.
Delaying the launch would make guys with early orders angry too.
But yes, Apple should communicate better! And because of the date range, just think about it, why did Apple give you a date range? As long as they aren't slower than the last day of they range, they didn't do anything wrong!!

I have a watch for 3 reasons.

1. I got my order in before many people! If you didn't get your order in fast enough, that is YOUR fault not Apples.

2. I may have ordered a watch that was available at a different rate. (SS42BSB)

3. My shipping window STILL isn't here, but Apple delivered 9 days before I was even expecting to be in the start of the shipping window. This is evidence of Apple doing a great job and getting these things out the door ASAP.

Mine ss 42mm classic buckle came on apr 30. The delivery window was 4/24-5/7. My moms SG 38mm BSB came almost 8 days early on 5/5 with delivery window 5/13-5/27. There was another watch also SS 42mm BSB came 2 weeks earlier on April 30 with delivery window 5/13-5/27 I bought website not app. So no complaints here. I can understand the wait is very hard because people already love the watch the way it looks and feels. The way it works. Now don't think too much about it do your regular things otherwise time will not pass. I think Apple is doing good job shipping watches within or before delivery window. This time around lot of people ordered online because people did not pre ordered iPhone 6 plus and then it was very hard to get that phone in store or online. So there were lot of preorders on April 10 so give apple time to make the best unit for you.

Imagine there were only 2 watches available on the 24th, and the next starting date range was "2016". By your logic, you couldn't complain until 1/1/2017, and Apple didn't do anything wrong!

I m not in that 2.3 million people category. Ordered 3 got 3 on time
