Except that these devices are not made to last more then a few years. Simply the action of turning them on and off creates stresses in the connection points where all the wires and circuits are merged together. The constant expansion of heat and cold create microscopic cracks that wear on the device, cause weird things like the cellular antenna to stop picking up a signal as well, the connecters to fail, etc etc. I would really love it if these products were made to last forever but there's a really good reason they only have a 1 year warranty. ;(

I don't know about that. In my experience, devices can last a pretty long time if you take good care of them. After all, there are people in the world still using the original iPhone, you know.

Ouch. Forgot about that.

Yep that's sadly the truth.

Also,
I have gotten a really good response from the video i posted, I want to carry on making videos about tech but i have no idea what to do next. Any topics guys?

App reviews are an easy way to go. Maybe review a case or your computer. Talk about some tech news, PS4/Xbox One stuff. Plenty of ideas out there.

Respects!!! Most kids would do anything to con their parents in buying them a new iPhone every 1-2 years.

My buddy lasted for 3 years on his 3GS, he's about 34 years old.

Great that your buddy lasted so long

That's awesome! It's nice to see kids enjoying their technology and not begging for the newest thing just because.

If it works that's all that matters. People get too caught up with keeping up with the jones' and they forget what still works. Most people could get along fine with half the phone they have now. It's all about priorities.

Keep up the good work. The 3GS is one of the best iPhones made running the best version of iOS. Take care of it.

You're 15? Keep up the mentality that you don't always need more and you'll get along just fine. I wish I would have been more frugal at that age. Don't fall into the trap of "the more you make the more you can spend". You'll make more but have nothing to show for it.

I'm starting to digress.

That is completely correct :) btw I only pay $19 a month with Optus. It's a really horrible plans me I basically get nothing so I'm looking to switch

I'm with Vaya which uses the Optus network. its 18$ a month for 600$ worth of credit, unlimited text and 1.5 gig of data. Look into it. or PM me for more details. I dont' work for them but ive used them since January and i think they are amazing.

I still have mine too. I use it to play music in my bathroom while I'm getting ready for work. :)

I'm looking to switch to Live Connected soon :)

Still have my 3gs. Battery life is great, usually get through the whole day -- with some light/medium use -- and get home with like 30%.

However, already bought my 5s and will be getting it this week :)

I have a perfectly functional (always excellent performance) 3GS tucked away in a drawer. My son returned it to me at Thanksgiving last year because I passed my iPhone 4 on to him due to my own upgrade to iPhone 5 in September last year. It worked great for 4 years (early 2009-late 2012) and I plug it in to charge every so often to keep the battery charged; it contains photos & music that I enjoy having. :)

The video has hit 500 views! :)

many thanks

Also my iPhone 3GS "Vibrating motor" has broken :(

This is such a joy to see a teenager enjoying his technology regardless of its age and whatnot.

My 13 year old nephew bought himself an Xbox 360 Kinect and Sports Game Bundle a couple weeks back, all with his own money. Before that, he had a Christmas PS2 for years he adored. When it finally bit the dust, he sold it for parts, banked that cash, and started saving weekly, doing jobs for his parents and the neighborhood (lawn mowing and yard cleaning, car washing, basically things some of the older neighbors can't do for themselves anymore), and he was so proud to walk into Best Buy and get that 360 himself. I was proud to take him. He knew everything there is to know about the One and PS4, too, but, according to him, the games he loved were already available on the 360, the One didn't have them and was financially out of reach, and he doesn't have an HDTV anyway, so why bother right now? Couldn't believe the smart decisions this kid was making, hahaha.

When you get yourself a 5S or future iPhone, young sir, I'm sure it'll be amazing, especially if you get it all on your own. Kudos, Jixer!

I know plenty of engineers, accountants, lawyers etc on 3G, 3GS, feature-phones who are in 80-140k R&D roles. They simply have other interests, lives, and priorities than to keep up with and have the latest connected gadget.

Yep, I'm a real estate agent and a few people in the office still have iPhone 4's and one has a 3GS. They make well over $100k a year and have nice new cars. Their phones work for them, so.. why upgrade?

I on the other hand have a new macbook air and a galaxy note 3, to each his own.

It's not free. You pay the difference (and much much more actually) in the contract. You remain the ignorant one.

Not is this case. Try reading the thread.

Either way, you still pay for the data no matter what. The same data cost for an unlocked or locked phone.

So if you are not planning on changing carriers, signing a 2 year contract will effectively give you the phone for free.
