If a new Apple TV comes out there will be a new 9 in. "device" along with it.

A 9" touch screen remote for selecting and possibly viewing videos [around the house (streamed) or on the go (hard-drive)] linked up to the aTV. It's a pipe-dream but hey.

Drop the larger cinema displays and make them TV's????

So I didn't feel like reading over a hundred posts but,

would Apple drop larger cinema displays, update the specs (with hdmi, etc.) and design/market/sell 30" - 42" TV's?

Then update itunes and Apple TV as required?

Just a thought. May sound a little crazy to call them tvs but who knows.

I was holding out hope that something would happen with the Apple TV! I have a friend I was going to buy one for, but am dragging my feet to for the September 9th event.

mmmm

I ditched my Cable company a long time ago in favor of iTunes, Netflix (via Tivo), BitTorrent and sticking an antenna on the roof. I originally just used my Mac Mini but my wife found Front Row to limited so I got an Apple TV.

They will have to do a lot better than a bigger hard drive for me to get a new one. A faster processor is a must because mine can take while to respond to the remote.

I nice change in iTunes would be able to sync TV shows based on episode. This would help as I currently have to use playlists for my iPhone where space is at a premium.

How's that workin' out for ya now that analog broadcasting has gone the way of the dodo? :p (I'm assuming you're in the U.S.!)

Edit: I didn't think about digital signals still being over the air. Whoops! Foot inserted in mouth.

solution for Apple: Buy TiVO. Imagine a combo TiVO/Apple TV.

I would love an all-in-one system for my entertainmnet center. Personally, I'm sick of all the devices I have to connect. One streamlined connection for an all-in-one DVR/BluRay player/streamer/ect. would be ideal.

I think Apple is foolish not to enter the TV market....it is the most central "appliance" in the majority of consumer's homes. If you can dominate that market, that is media power.

More than just ipods

Hi Guys,
I have been told by our supplier that there will be more than just ipods at this year's september event. So it wouldn't surprise me if new apple tv's or even the tablet are to be released then.

cheers

Huh? You still can still use rooftop antennas to receive digital terrestrial programming (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS, etc). In fact, it's the least compressed HD signal outside a Blu-ray disc, you're going to get.

I don't know where you are... but in most places, Apple has a 14-day return policy. Check your receipt.

yes they do - but I've also just remembered I got rid of the box (which I never do!) - hopefully they'll be sympathetic if there's an upgrade...

AppleTV 3.0 please!

If Apple did a subscription for movies and TV shows that would be the best update to the AppleTV. I'd ditch Comcastic.

NetFlix has the $100 hardware device but they lack enough new content for me to consider dumping cable.

Add Safari 4.0 and an option for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo and we're golden.

Hmmm iPhone almost does this one:) It has the keyboard and sliding mouse "gestures" on the newest release. It would be interesting to see if they went this was with a stand alone remote as well.

tivo is just some linux, graphics drivers and scheduling software. nothing special.

since apple is licensing active sync, they could probably license the MS IPTV tech as well for the Tivo functionality

So you don't have to pay for your cable/satellite in addition to your DVR rental. It can cost me $70-80/mo...

my total cable bill is $85 a month or so. maybe less now.

i get 30 or more HD channels. i record a lot of kids shows for my son like Dora, my wife records her shows. i record concerts in HD from Palladia. it would cost me a lot more to buy this on iTunes.

football season is coming up, i get foodnetwork via cable.

HDTV. I have all those things for free. local sports and news. AND! I get the benefit of knowing I do not, in any way shape or form, funnel ANY millionths of a cent of my money to people like Glen Beck and other TV blowhards. I love it! I've never been happier since I turned off my cable.
I'm with you on that - but to get cable news, which I do watch, I have to keep the lowest/cheapest cable plan. (About $20 on Comcast here in Jacksonville.) I get more channels than I should through clear QAM, but Comcast has started locking those down. I really don't want to futz with an antenna, but I suppose it's not outside the realm of possibility in the future.

I wouldn't count on that. You should try to get your box back otherwise I don't think you'd be eligible to make a return. Then again, I wouldn't worry too much. These analysts are wrong far more often than they're right.

Am I everyone? no. But I am a male with a decent enough disposable income and I'm aged 25-40. So, I'm just representing the most desirable segment of the market.

I am also 25-40, male and have decent enough disposable income.

My TiVo Season Pass has close to 60 entries and most of those shows are not available via iTunes.

So while not having cable works for you because you watch little TV, I need it because I watch a shedload of TV. ;)

Same coin, different sides.

Here are my thoughts. ( I know ... nobody cares... but anyway)

1080p support HDMI 1.3 (or above)
HDMI inputs, say 3+ (Bluray, VHS, Sat ...)
App Store (games)
Conversion of any video format to 720p or 1080p
Conversion of any audio format to digital optical/coax
Ability to subscribe to TV shows. Don't need a DVR per se

Apple would do a good job at controlling the experience.

Who has a TV that to get great quality has a complicated setup? I do and my wife kids don't like it.
Let an Apple TV do the switching.
No Bluray other that via HDMI. But can download.
Support Satellite via HDMI or better yet download subscribed shows.
(Satellite a bit of pain ... 200 channels and only 2 decent ones. Need to pay extra for good ones) .

This is what you call disruptive technology!

Not really.
The should enable an iPod touch or iPhone or ... as an remote.
Already have it for iTunes.

I think it sounds like you want a PS3 Slim to get an extra $100 price drop... :)

First, that could mean a few things. Second, I said nothing about a price drop. I said it needs to stay the same or become lower. And for the record, I despise the new design; the pre-slim is still the best (BTW, I think I got the best model: 80 GB, 4 USB, PS2 compatibility, card reader.)

Contrary to what others say, I think games would be crappy and not worth it. What's the controller? Your remote? Not unless you're doing Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. What games are you going to get? IMO, the only good game platforms are Windows and the three major game consoles.

No, I want an ATV that doesn't need a dedicated Mac or PC running iTunes.

Uh, except you don't? Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but you don't need a PC or Mac to use AppleTV. I use mine all the time without a computer on... and I haven't opened iTunes in weeks. But I use ATV almost everyday.

Who needs 40GB when you can stream everything from your computer (or in my case, my 4TB NAS)?

I say replace the 40GB with a 8-16GB SSD (for OS and caching) and be done with it.

Exactly!! We don't want huge hard drives in Apple TV, that's what our Mac is for.

I hope Apple makes the top Black like this mockup of the Mini (just without the optical drive):

Guess it depends on your setup, I have 2tb of storage that I stream to ATV vs. Syncing to the device as I only have 40gb available on the ATV itself.

So yes, I have to leave my iMac on without sleep. It would be great to run ATV off of my network drives and not require iTunes to be open.

Same form factor. Greener and runs cooler with Intel Atom and nVidia Ion.

1080p capable, 120 Gig Hard Drive, 2 usb ports for external hard drives and other peripherals (keyboards, game controllers), Bluetooth for wireless keyboards and game controllers, addition of AppleTV Apps/Games in the App Store, $199... :D

bold prediction

it's going to come with blu-ray, you can rip movies to it, iphone/touch games and apps, premium games for it from the premium app store rumors earlier this year, 1TB drive and you will be able to use it as a DVR/cable box on FIOS or AT&T's UVerse or whatever they call their cable TV system. maybe even comcast

it will be a premium option on one or both of them where you buy the AppleTV and then will pay $10 or so monthly
