I ordered a 40. Opened the box; was underwhelmed. It looks just like the 38--and the whole reason I was even buying a new watch is because I wanted a bigger face. Best Buy had a 44 available today. Bought that one and will return the 40 to Apple. And. until I can re-up my band game, you better believe I'm putting these 38 bands on that watch. LOL! I tried my current bands on my co-worker's 42 and I can live with it. LOL

I'm presently wearing the SS 42mm with a Milanese band and will be upgrading to the 40mm SS gold with Milanese.
The main reason I'm upgrading is because of the health apps. I started with the Series 0, preordered, in SS with Milanese band and have given that one to my husband. Not sure what's going to happen with my S3 SS with Milanese yet, but have no second thoughts on my new purchase.
I was all set to go to the 44mm , but my son pointed out that there is more 'real estate' on watch face of the 40mm than on my old 42mm!

There definitely is more real estate, but it still looks super small. To my eyes, anyway.

Well this is a surprise, I just managed to reserve Apple Watch 4 SS Gold Milanese Loop 44mm from John Lewis for my wife to pick up tomorrow, not going to cancel my order from Apple just yet until we pick it up tomorrow.

i am honestly thinking lots of people going to regret getting the 44mm on the longer run due the size of the watch.
Not me...I love it

Ya.... no, I am very happy with my 44mm even my wife loves the side and getting her one tomorrow.

VERY happy with my 40mm, coming from a 42mm. Perfect fit for my 165 cm wrist!! SS looks absolutely gorgeous!

my wrist, i think is 171mm, so ive been going back and forth between 40 and 44. id rather small than big.always had 42mm. will go to store later.

What band did you originally get with the watch? and how much did you pay for the Amazon one? is it as strong as apple version the Milanese Loop Stainless steel?

I originally got the stone sport
This band was 10 bucks
Haven’t compared to Milanese as it’s out of stock

Ahh thank you, I have the original Milanese loop with my new Watch 4, but I wouldn't mind getting another one.

Before seeing the watches in person, I was heavily leaning towards the 40mm. But when I tried both sizes on, the choice was clear: 44mm. The 40mm looked way too tiny on me and almost looked like a women's watch. I was really surprised actually, thought it was going to be perfect.

If you're on the fence I highly recommend trying both on in person. I tend to obsess over these types of decisions but after seeing both watches on it was an easy call.

Yes they do. But display only no stock for walkins just preorders. I did enjoy holding both sizes and comparing them.

Yeah I actually went today because I was worried the 44 would be too big, but it looks good, time to order on apple!

Had 42 through a few apple watches. Love the size, it's perfect. Ordered a 44mm on BB but I'm going back and forth between the 40 and 44 because of pictures, hopefully in person it doesn't look as huge lol

I'm upgrading from a S0 42mm, so I ordered the 40mm S4 thinking that 44 would be too big. But when I picked it up at the Apple Store, I tried on a 44mm and it didn't appear or feel significantly different than my old watch. I was going to return the 40, but now that I've been wearing it awhile, the 40 feels and looks right.

In any event, the improvement over my S0 is fantastic. Loading and using native and third-party apps is so much faster now.

Trust me, 44 looks tiny. The people in these pictures must be tiny. Here is a 44 on me and im not huge.

I think a lot of people on here are over reacting massively. It’s 1.5mm larger I’m not sure if there’s a lot of North Americans on here who aren’t very accustomed to the metric system but it’s really not a lot.
Think about it the watch still sits centrally in your arm so 0.75mm at the top and the bottom isn’t going to be noticeable.

Update: I preordered the 40mm GPS aluminum silver and it arrived by UPS today. Went to Best Buy near me and realized the 44 was a better size, also really liked the space grey but they were sold out of the 44/space grey.

Went to the Apple Store after work and returned the unopened 40mm and scored a 44mm GPS aluminum space grey and added the black Milanese loop. LOVE this Watch and the combo of space grey with Milanese. Looks great even when Watch is 'off' and everything just looks black.

Big change from my white faced and stainless steel Tissot...

Edit: I'm a 40 year old guy with 165mm wrist circumference if that helps

Just picked up the white sports band 44 ss. Here’s the photo compare to my 42 series 2 aluminum. The other photo is my series 2 42 aluminum and 40 series 4 aluminum.

These were some of the best side-by-side pics I’ve found. Very helpful comparison. Thanks!!

This is literally what I would have posted. Our experience was exactly the same. Keep enjoying your 40!

I have fairly small wrists for a man. I had the series 0 42 MM and I always thought it looked a tad too big. But the 38mm looked too small. Seriously considered the 40 MM thinking it might be perfect , but I couldn’t pass up the larger screen size and went for the 44 MM. I love it. I Think it actually looks better but at a minimum it doesn’t look too large. And the screen size really makes pictures pop.
