I don’t believe that’s correct. The lugs are the same on both watches, just different width to match the case. It should be possible to use the 42mm bands on the 40mm watch, just as they should on the 38mm, and vice versa ... The only difference is the edges will either stick out, or recess as applicable. Given the broader rounded corners, this may not be so bad.
38mm Milanese loop band on a 44m aw s4. They slide in but do not lock in if not put in right. So make sure they go in correct way.

Ah, then I stand corrected. I guess the lug holes are not the same size.

Otherwise they don’t look too bad.

I wonder if the 42mm bands being larger would lock in on a 40mm watch, or if it’s actually the spacing between the holes. I think that would be the least attractive of the two though.

Oh well ... worth a try.

Correct yourself again as I had to edit my post to say it did work lol Just need to make sure it goes in correct way so it does lock. Not something I had paid attention to before as just put them in anyway what so ever.

I ordered 44mm and tried them both on in the apple store today. I think the 40mm looks better but I personally like the feel and the screen size of the 44mm better. Coming from a 42.

That’s interesting, considering the 40mm screen is bigger than the 42mm.

Anybody use their Apple Watch solely for running? How is the GPS and accuracy of the readings, etc.? And any comment on whether the 44ml size is too big for just running?

I'm considering Series 4 to replace an aging Garmin GPS watch. I'm not an iPhone user so it'd be solely for running and activities.

If you do not have an iPhone, then this is not the watch for you.

In terms of running data, if you did buy the Apple Watch, you could only see your pace and heart rate data while you were running. Once the run was over, it couldn't be uploaded to anywhere, or retrospectively accessed. These features require an iPhone to download the data to. This data can then be accessed from the Activity app in the iPhone.

I have a Garmin 735 and an Apple Watch S3. When I go running, I wear both. I wear my Apple Watch as it's my every day watch, and I want to close my rings, but I use my Garmin for my training.

On the Garmin, I use the interval training features, and it provides more metrics for each run. I also like that the run data can be uploaded to Strava, as well as being accessed on my iPhone. Apple Watch's data can't be uploaded anywhere.

These watches were a similar price when I got them (the Garmin has got cheaper since). Side by side, the Apple Watch is by far the better product. It looks, and feels and behaves in a superior way in every respect. It just does more, and does it better. But when it comes to running, the Garmin's specialist area, the Garmin is better at the moment, although only for the reasons I have given.

This is my first Apple watch. I got the 44mm but might be exchanging for the 40 mm in a few days. Its all personal taste I guess, but the 40 mm didn't feel so 'heavy' if that makes sense. I do love the display on the 44mm and it doesn't look huge or anything but I like the feeling of not having to constantly feel it there that the 40 mm has.

Still can’t decide if the 40mm is the right size for me. I came from 42mm and find the 40mm a tad too small. Any feedback?

It's all personal taste, tbh...

But the 40mm is pretty much the perfect size for your wrist in my eyes.

My wrist is about 165mm...still going back and forth between the 40 and 44, but my 44 should be here tomorrow. Don't wanna go through exchanging and BB restocking fee

Attached a few images of my new 44mm that just arrived. Would appreciate any feedback on size. I always went with the 42 so I ordered the 44. Hope it isn't too big on me vs the 40.

44mm looks great on you, dude. As long as you can see some wrist above and below the face, you’re good.

I finally had the chance to see these in person. My conclusion is I would have been so sad if I had ordered the 40mm. I have 150mm wrists but let’s keep in mind this metric isn’t a one size fits all. I wish we could somehow easy measure wrist width instead of circumference. My wife has wrists a tiny bit smaller than mine but much narrower.

I’m really skinny but have kind of wide wrists so this the 150mm. The 40mm looked tiny on me. The 44mm looked perfect. And the difference between 44 and 42 in person is not much at all. The app showing each size made the difference look much greater in my opinion.

Very happy I ordered the 44mm!

40mm or 44mm?

Can everyone give me some feedback?

Thanks :)

44MM. I actually think is looks better on you. But it's very close and bet most observers won't notice a difference. However, you will notice the extra screen size in both the display and a little extra space for your fingers to push things around.

Have a REALLY hard time deciding - Used to have the S0/S2/S3 42 mm.

Have fairly small wrists (~174 MM) but larger than average hands (I think ...). 186 CM long, thin build.

Appreciate input! (And sorry about the shorts :D )

Thank you all for input!

If you are having a hard time deciding, it probably means that both look fine (or roughly as good but in slightly different ways). I had the 42mm and am astounded by how much difference the 44mm makes. So if it's a close call, go large!

Blue Is series 3 . Red is series 4

Well, there are so many pages here.. my comment may be a little late, but, these graphics are a a bit off... As I measure here, the S3 blue graphic representations measure exactly 38mm and 42 mm respectlively -- at least on my screen. But, in reality, the S3 watches are actually 38.5 mm and 42.5 mm. So, for the "42 mm" and "44 mm" comparisons, according to Apple specs, the new S4 44 mm is actually only 1.5 mm taller vertically than the so-called S3 42 mm.
