Umm... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-watch-2-battery-supposed-photo.1990289/

Whenever I do a workout (every day essentially) I have to top up the battery for a bit to make it through a whole day. Most of the time it's not bad, as I throw it on the charger while I shower. But there are times where I workout at a gym before work can't charge it while showering.

Also, the complaints about more than 1 day battery life I don't really understand. I think the most important is having a routine with the watch, not having to think about when it needs charge, just that you place it on the nightstand when going to sleep (for example). If it improves from 1 day, it would need to be something significant (like a weekly routine - I remember every weekend charging my Pebble when I had it).

If we have a bigger battery, I'd rather we can get more out of it during the day and not try to stretch for a potential two day battery life. Or maybe enough that it can be used for sleep tracking and need just a quick top up in the morning.
I can only speak for myself, but when I say two day battery life would be good, it's not because I want an actual two days, but because I want to know that it will last me a full day without having to babysit or worry about it.

I don't think you're wrong about getting into a routine. That's effectively what one would have to do with any such Watch. And I think once you get into much longer battery life you run the risk of just forgetting to charge the thing at all and then one day it's dead (has happened more than once with my Fitbit lol; I too try and charge while showering and that seems to be enough to never require an overnight charge).

I mentioned above my wife's battery woes. I have no idea if they're typical, but I also know she isn't doing anything beyond responding to messages. I think a solid 12 hour day without your watching going dead is a reasonable ask, if not from the technology, then from the product. What I mean by that is, if in asking too much from today's tech, this just means what exists currently doesn't yet meet my needs. I feel like $$500+ is a lot of cash to be at the mercy of a plug with yet another device.

On a related note I was looking at the new Nike plus running app and they had a comment in the release notes for the latest update that practically confirmed GPS in the new Watch. It said something like "Run without your phone with Nike plus on the Apple Watch", seems to have been removed now :D

I presume this will just be to offset the introduction of GPS - the watch battery has been very, very good for me. Would prefer to see performance improvements over longer advertised battery life. Always gets me through a day and no hassle to charge - it would be on my bedside table anyway, so it's not a 'chore' to charge as one member said.

I think the other thing people need to realize is battery life will diminish as you continue to use the battery. Having more power than needed is important to having a usable watch a few years down the road.

I think it's great having devices that can last a day and a half because that means on a heavy use day I don't have to worry about it and in a few years the battery will still last me long enough.

Maybe the battery is thicker to replace the space they will save with a new thinner display. Thus, no change to the outside of the watch.

Bingo!

I bet it still won't work in the shower. Get it wet and that's the end of the watch...
Was this a problem? I've read of
Folks even swimming with their watches. It certainly shouldn't have issues I the shower.

I always wondered why Apple didn't use a 20-22nm process on the first Watch and went with 28nm instead. Seems like they could have saved some power usage going to a smaller process.

That said, I'll get the next Apple Watch. My wife likes hers and it works well, but it wasn't a must-buy for me. The new Watch OS almost made me buy an existing Watch, but that coupled with new hardware should make the second generation significantly better.

Only on a 2nd generation wow? These just came out last year?

Gen 1 is already useful for many. Naturally it should improve in capabilities every iteration, but if you think Gen 1 is only for guinea pigs, I doubt it will magically morph into something you want by gen 3.
It's cellular iPhone independence or nothin' for me!

I hope they put that extra battery into processing power instead of longevity. There's nothing wrong with a 1.5 day battery.

My wife, the technophobe and occasional anti-Apple non-fangirl, absolutely loves her AppleWatch.

Me? I am waiting for the self-winding version...

My wife and I have swam (pools, salt water pools, the intracoastal), showered repeatedly, worn in hot-tubs/spas, both of our Apple Watches, and we've been owners since day 1 (her's literally a first delivery from a pre-order, mine 3 weeks later). No issues.
