Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro's pixel density has not been improved since 2012. At least we know where Apple's priorities lie...

It’s already nearly impossible to discern individual pixels on a MBP without a magnifying glass, how much more density do you want?

With real world improvements, not just chasing numbers to please the few people who care about them.

Simply a physical resolution to match the default software resolution of the 2016+ MBPs:
Really? If using the MBP at actual 2x retina, you get 1280x800 on the 13” and 1440x900 on the 15”. That’s ok for 2018?

I think in the past few years Apple has changed the default resolution to be scaled and not actual 2x, so you’re getting more real estate, but it would be nice if the actual display had high enough density to support those default resolutions @2x.
The ideal physical resolution for 1:1 crispness on the 15" would be 3360x2100, not the current 2880x1800. For a $2,400+ laptop, it's reasonable to expect better.

So the 42mm Apple Watch was never 42mm at all. Now I am to believe that the same form factor yields a significantly bigger watch??

I feel ripped off.

A commenter in 9to5's thread has the same thought as you.
He said: "This is how it would look like with 345PPI. So the Watch needs to be taller, or higher PPI, or you got the wrong resolution." To be fair, 9to5 did state they were guessing, but people seem to be taking that 345PPI as gospel not a guess.

and I wonder if the third party watchOS apps need to be written to "fit" fully into the new watch. It took a year for most of my Third Party apps I use to be updated to WatchOS 4 levels (run natively on watch)

Was really hoping for a circular watch this time around... Tired of the same old boring calculator watch look. I want something that looks classy, and no matter what kind of band you wear it won't look that way. Their are so many nice looking Android Wear watches coming out, its truly a shame Apple isn't diversifying. There is a reason no one copies their design this time.

Seems like 9to5mac has all the scoops these days. MR falling behind.

MacRumors has rarely been the source ever. 9to5mac, AppleInsider, and others are almost always the original sources and MacRumors just re-summarizes the information they break.

Not sure if you're being serious or not... But it's called smaller bezels. The current 42mm had a 42mm screen. The new one will have a screen larger than 42mm in the same size body due to reduced bezels.

The Series 4 Likely won’t even make it to the shelves. The reality is, the 15% larger display, increased battery life, additional health sensors, and a higher resolution, all while being Compatible with the existing watch bands, it could be quite some time waiting for those who don’t pre-order.
You make it sound like they just decided on all those new features yesterday. This watch has already been designed and put into production and there will be plenty available at launch.

Let me guess... wherever the money's at?

As an old guy I am only interested in health tracking. Garmin products do such a good job of health tracking that I am concerned that I will loose data types with an Apple watch. Sleep is very important and Garmin uses heart rate to generate sleep info, How does the series 4 Watch do it?
I use a program called AutoSleep with the current AppleWatch now that I really like. It apparently uses the accelerometer in the watch and I think heart rate to tell when you are sleeping. The same company also makes a program called HeartWatch with enhanced cardio info. I can charge my watch for about an hour before going to bed while watching TV. Then I put it in airplane and theater mode while I sleep. It still records all of the data on the watch but uses less battery since it is not communicating to my phone or turning the screen on when I move in bed. Then when I wake up I turn off airplane and theater mode and place it back on the charger while I shower and get ready for work. After my shower it has downloaded the sleep data to my phone and I get an update in the app of my sleep performance. The battery is also fully charged for the day as it didn't run down much during the night.

Looking forward to seeing how the AW4 works. I really do like the app I already use. Since you can pair 2 watches to the phone, I've thought about continuing to use the AutoSleep app, but use my Series 0 at night for sleep monitoring and then wear the 4 during the day.

Day uno SS42 S0... still going strong with battery at 20% end of day. Yet I Can’t wait for the upgrade. Pretty slow but reliable...

I’d love to see Apple do the equivalent of Google Doodles as watch faces. So you put on your watch that morning and see a surprise, professionally designed watch face that corresponds with something going on in the world. Maybe a spooky one on Halloween or a Santa one on Christmas. Could even be obscure ones that teach you something, just like Google Doodles, to fill up each day of the year.

This would make your WATCH feel new each day (encouraging repeat use), and spark conversation around especially good or newsworthy ones to get non wearers excited about the product. Also feels like it fits along the theme of time.
