I can’t wait till the iWatch 4 comes to Canada. I have a iPod 1, iPad 3, iPhone 5 & X. I’m missing the iWatch. Then I have the complete iSeries.
The Series 4 Likely won’t even make it to the shelves. The reality is, the 15% larger display, increased battery life, additional health sensors, and a higher resolution, all while being Compatible with the existing watch bands, it could be quite some time waiting for those who don’t pre-order.
Bought version 1, sold a month later
Skipped version 2
Skipped version 3
Version 4 sounds like worth buying
Why not 512×342? Then when someone makes a Mac Plus emulator for the Apple Watch it would be in a native resolution.
So the 42mm Apple Watch was never 42mm at all. Now I am to believe that the same form factor yields a significantly bigger watch??
I feel ripped off.
Not sure if you're being serious or not... But it's called smaller bezels. The current 42mm had a 42mm screen. The new one will have a screen larger than 42mm in the same size body due to reduced bezels.
I think more information at a glance is a good thing. I can see why people are excited for more screen real estate. But to me it isn't upgrade worthy. Not with how much value these things lose in their first year.I don’t get why people are getting so hyped for this. Is it the slightly larger screen, slightly higher res, or that new watch face? I didn’t feel like the screen size or resolution of the current watches was too small or low, and that new watch face looks hideous IMHO. What am I missing? To me the Series 3 seemed a lot more exciting.
I personally feel the first Watch was underpowered out of the gate. Wife has had one and it's always been sluggish. Battery life is pitiful in comparison to others too. Some days she doesn't even get home from work before it's dead.If you sold the series 1 one month later, not sure what the series 4 will offer you.
Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro's pixel density has not been improved since 2012. At least we know where Apple's priorities lie...

My post was a response to the statement that the s4 isn't likely to entice a person who returned their gen 1 watch a month after release.Generation 1 product slower and has less battery life than generations 2, 3, and 4. Shocking. Next thing you’ll tell me is glass breaks when dropped.
My came off my wrist when I dived into a water hole at a quarry last Monday. Series 2. Not happy about it, I'm rapidly trying to save something up to get a 4 though.
While I don't think it's likely we will also see a round watch with this release, I'm not sure why you say it couldn't happen based on this. This only confirms the display area will be larger for the rectangular watch, not that there won't be a round version too, however unlikely.
The rendered graphics above also don't seem to account for the anticipated rounded corners which will cut into those pixel dimensions somewhat as well. And it's the rounded corners that set the display up for easily converting to a completely round display at some point in the future.
I have an app called SleepWatch that I've been happy with. I can't speak for how it compares to Garmin, but it does seem to get an accurate representation of my sleep patterns and total sleep I get.As an old guy I am only interested in health tracking. Garmin products do such a good job of health tracking that I am concerned that I will loose data types with an Apple watch. Sleep is very important and Garmin uses heart rate to generate sleep info, How does the series 4 Watch do it?
I had the first (stolen) and the second edition (both no cel) and find the interface horrible WTF was Johnny and Co thinking? I will not buy another one. I am tempted to buy a Samsung S3 (a more intuitive interface with a beautiful round face an a round crown, a thousand times better). A square (well it's rectangular) face to a square (not very innovative) company?
Apple's upcoming Apple Watch Series 4 models will feature larger displays thanks to reduced bezel size, and information 9to5Mac discovered in the most recent watchOS 5 beta suggests the 42mm Apple Watch will likely have a screen resolution of 384x480.
The current 42mm Apple Watch Series 3 model, for comparison, has a resolution of 312x390.
With the higher resolution (and increased PPI), Apple Watch Series 4 apps will be able to display more information at a higher resolution on the display, as shown in the example image below that were taken from a modified Apple Watch Simulator using a guesstimated PPI of 345.

As was seen in leaked marketing materials last week, the upcoming Apple Watch Series 4 models will feature at least one new watch face capable of displaying up to nine complications at one time.
Additional new watch faces could be included, and information taken from the beta suggests there will be new types of complications for Apple Watch apps to use.
Given the increase in resolution, third-party app developers will need to tweak their apps to work with the new Apple Watch Series 4 screen sizes.

A commenter in 9to5's thread has the same thought as you.
He said: "This is how it would look like with 345PPI. So the Watch needs to be taller, or higher PPI, or you got the wrong resolution." To be fair, 9to5 did state they were guessing, but people seem to be taking that 345PPI as gospel not a guess.

The mock-up images 9to5mac provides as taken from a “modified Apple Watch simulator” are not correct. The current display size for the 42mm watch is 24.3 x 30.4 while the new display size is 28.3 x 35.3 (given a ppi of 345 and the pixel resolution of 384 x 480). That’s about a 16% increase.<snip>
Either the watch has a higher PPI or the watch is physically bigger because the rumor is for ~15% larger display in the same body size and this seems to be more than that.

Does anyone know what the 38mm resolutions is likely to be?
Exactly. I'll be sticing with my Series 3 LTE variant. I see no reason to bother upgrading.I don’t get why people are getting so hyped for this.
