Okay, I ordered my unlocked iPhone 4S and ST SIM yesterday, the phone should be here tomorrow according to FedEx. ST sent the SIM via FedEx as well, they gave me a tracking number, but FedEx doesn't recognize that number yet. It's been almost 24 hours now, does it normally take this long?

It takes a little bit for the tracking number to appear in FedEx's system. I encountered this when I ordered my ST SIM via their web site. I would say that if the tracking number isn't recognized by tomorrow, I would call ST and/or FedEx about it.

Ah, okay thanks. I got the shipping confirmation about 7pm last night, its about 1:15pm now. I was only concerned because the Tracking # for the iPhone popped up less than an hour after I got the confirmation.

Update: It finally showed up in FedEx's system about an hour ago, it should be here tomorrow, along with my iPhone :D

I followed the directions posted previously and it's all worked great. My reception has been fine and data is fast enough. Since there is no visual voicemail now I setup a Google Voice account and it's been great.

Thanks for the guidance everybody.

Is ST still having data issues?

I got my 4S setup after a couple hours and number porting issues (my fault though, ATT doesn't make it so easy to find the account number for their Go Phones). Calls are good but my data speeds seem slow.

When I try using the Speed Test app, I get pings ranging from 166-266 ms, 0 Mbps downloads, and uploads range from 0.09 to 0.59 Mbps. My phone is giving me the "4G" indicator and even though Speedtest says nothing downloaded, I'm able to browse the web with no issues, speed aside.

My region is NE Ohio/NW Pennsylvania.

This has been happening for the past couple months. When I call in half the time the person has no idea what I'm talking about and just tells me it's because I'm in a bad reception area, or I need to clear my browser cache. After telling them to transfer me they do transfer me to tech support. Tech support usually tells me to give them a seperate number, they call me on it, tell me to turn off my iPhone, and then they reset something on their end. When I turn my phone back on it is working again but usually within 24 hours it's crap again.

The data issues many people were complaining about over the last month were not slow speeds, but rather an inability to make any sort of data connection at all despite good signal strength and a data indicator in the status bar. Restarting the phone, or toggling airplane mode was usually sufficient to restore data access. If your speeds are slow, it sounds like you are either in a poor reception area, or your account has been throttled for some reason. You can try calling Straight Talk and asking them to reset your account, but it's a toss up as to whether that will help. I assume you're using the Ookla speed test app? If so, try manually selecting a different server to test against and see if it makes any difference. I've noticed that with ST, sometimes the server that Ookla automatically selects isn't actually the best one to test against.

(In my case, I was experiencing the intermittent data connectivity issues, but that seems to have improved quite a bit over the last couple of weeks.)

Is ST still having data issues?

Yep. I have ST iPhones... both have had severe data issues across the country the last month and a half. I got so fed up with dealing with them that I ordered 2 iPhone 5 on AT&T... least then I have some sort of leverage if the service goes down. I'm sick and tired of ST being complacent to fix their stuff. I realize it may be between them and AT&T, but that's their issue to fix, not mine.

Back to AT&T I go... only about $20 a month more, but $65 for working service vs $45 for non-working service, I'll pay the premium :)

Well, I emailed CS, nothing they can do. It's not a major issue for me now, but I have ATT to fall back on if it ever does.

Now a new problem popped up, but I'm not sure if it's related to ST or not: Siri. Today, I got a couple texts (not iMessages, they were from and Android phone) and I asked Siri to read them and both went like this:

"New message from <sender's name>:" <pause> "Would you like me to read it again?"

The texts were there but she wouldn't read it. Then I got a another notification, I guessed it was an email, my phone was in my pocket and couldn't get my phone at the time. Here's how that went:

Me: Read email.
Siri: No new emails.
Me: Read messages.
Siri: No new messages.

When I had to chance to check my phone, I did get an email (ST CS response) and I asked her to read the email. A couple more "no new emails" then I got an "sorry, I cannot read your new email."

The whole time with the texts and email, I was on Wi-Fi and I knew I had internet connection.

I have ST and I am experiencing the exact results using Speed Test. I notice this happening for about 2 months and reseting/rebooting the phone only works some times. However I still have data but not great speeds but speed test results are inconsistent.

I give BS to bad service area because I testing this at work with 3 different co-workers who use AT&T running the same app and one Samsung S3. AT&T users have no problems with very good DL speeds. I personal hunch is AT&T is playing some games and screwing their wholesale customers in some way. It wouldn't surprise me if they did this.

Also ST has the absolute worst support forum on their site. They do not post any information but make you PM the forum moderators. I found some site which helped me fixed the MMS issue which I initially couldn't find much help from ST.

I would love to get the new iPhone but the uncertainty of the nano sim and possible MMS issues made me hold off purchasing for now. Correct me if I'm wrong but my 4S I had to download some APN app to get MMS working. Not sure what the work around would be for the iP5.

Same here, I had great service and fast speeds but the Speed Test app just wouldn't work. Been happening for weeks I think.. I'm going with AT&T until ST gets nano sims and MMS working then I'm immediately going back.

AT&T not on contract right? I just don't want contract and not sure what other options. There is simple mobile but that is off T-Mobile and they are not that good in my area.

I went with AT&T on contract just to make pre-ordering the phone easier (I like ordering from Apple.com, and had no option to buy off contract). The price won't change honestly.. If I buy an off-contract phone now, or cancel and pay the Early Termination Fee in two months I'll end up paying the same regardless. More money now or more money later.

To make life easier you may want to go off-contract. It's not a big difference though because when I tell Straight Talk to transfer my number to their service and SIM then AT&T just automatically cancels my contract and sends me a bill with the ETF on it.

I'm still seeing this issue and it happens with iMessages as well, over both wifi and cellular. Aside from this, I don't have any other issue with Siri, if I ask for the time or select a song, she does it with no problem.

My data issues are a little better, I run the tests and I get a download response now, but it comes like the last 1-2 sec of the download test, and it gets to about 3 Mbps.

Update: I asked Siri to do a temperature conversion and she did with with no problem.

Update 2: Okay, I found the problem with texts. After doing some more digging, I found that in order for Siri to read messages, the Show Preview option in Notifications has to be turned On, I had it turned Off. I don't know if this is a bug or intended. As for email, I tried the same trick and it didn't work.

is there anyway to activate straight talk service on a ATT sim card? Or do I need to order the straight talk chip from their website. Just wondering if anyone has tried this

Straighttalk was fun and cheap while it lasted but I cannot deal with the intermittent data connectivity issues...

Does anyone have another link to howardforums? The site is down and I am trying to view the page for the directions to make MMS work on my iphone 4.

You need to order the SIM from Straight Talk. Make sure you select the one that is compatible with AT&T-locked devices, not the one for T-Mobile devices.

Are you still having problems? It's gotten much better for me over the past couple of weeks. I used to notice the problem multiple times daily, now it's maybe once a week at most (and I'm not even sure those times aren't due to some other problem like poor reception).

Try howardforum.com (no 's'). Their domain was hijacked.

So how long before we know for sure if we can update to iOS 6 and use the same settings that we use now for everything to work?

Yep, like all good things it came to an end. They don't and won't have LTE though, so it's worth a switch back to ATT for me at minimum for that. So sick of their ineptitude the past couple months with data speeds. AT&T got smart and started throttling them as a MVNO

I was on them on iPhone for 2 years, and Friday I port out.
